Concerts of the Past

November 1, 2011 by Julie 145 Comments

Good news for Sadie! I actually put on my running clothes and took a break from researching for a freelance piece to take her on a nice four-mile jog around our neighborhood right before lunch.

The weather is unbelievably gorgeous today and I felt so at peace on my run, even with my ‘90s music blasting on my iPod.

One song that made me smile? My Baby by Lil’ Romeo. When I was younger, I actually went to a Lil’ Romeo concert with a bunch of my girlfriends at the House of Blues. It’s crazy to me that Lil’ Romeo is now just Romeo and he’s 22!

That song made me think back to other concerts I’ve attended over the years as I ran:

  • Green Day, Blink 182, Kid Rock
  • Dave Matthews Band
  • OAR
  • Lil’ Romeo
  • Ben Folds
  • Bon Jovi
  • Destiny’s Child
  • Brooks & Dunn (x2!), Keith Urban
  • Straight No Chaser
  • Journey

The best concerts of the bunch in my eyes were Bon Jovi and Straight No Chaser. So good!

One concert I’ve always wanted to see? U2! My parents went a couple of years ago and said it was absolutely amazing.

All this concert talk reminds me that I really need to create a new playlist for Saturday’s half marathon!

Lunch

Lunch today was one of my favorites.

tuna salad bagel 003

Tuna salad on a wheat bagel, served with carrot sticks and the largest Honeycrisp apple known to man.

tuna salad bagel 001

tuna salad bagel 005

Sadie didn’t leave my side for a second as I ate my tuna salad. At least someone likes the smell of that stuff!

Questions of the Afternoon

  • What was the first concert you ever attended?

First Concert = Bush, 1997. Who, coincidentally, I saw a few weeks ago and got to meet my pre-teen heart throb Gavin Rossdale hahaha (http://www.theresyourkarma.com/2011/10/23/rex-manning-day/)

Best Concert = Paul McCartney, this summer. Hands down.

I’ve been to a U2 concert, and now I want to see Journey in concert 🙂 We can trade! I would also LOVE to see Coldplay and Taylor Swift.

But seriously, seeing U2 live was the greatest thing ever. I’d grown up listening to them since my dad is a hard core fan, and since my sister and I arrived hours early, we got to stand so close to the stage! One of my favorite memories is seeing Bono and the Edge sing “Mysterious Ways” (my favorite song!!) ten feet away from my face 🙂

My first concert was The Moffatts…aka Hanson from Canada. I’m sure it was terrible but I was in love.
The best concert I’ve ever been to was John Mayer and that’s probably because that’s the only big concert I’ve ever been to!

I looove tuna salad too, people at work used to tease me about the look and smell of it but I don’t mind 🙂

Best concert – Tie between The Rolling Stones in 2009 and Lady Gaga 2010. Quite different but both amazing!!

my first concert was the Nickelodeon All That Music & More Festival, which featured 98 degrees, Monica, and some band called “No Authority” (seriously, who came up with that?). And I went with my family. Oh yes.It was very 90s.

My favorite concert ever was Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers with CSN. My tastes have changed, to say the least.

Coldplay was hands down the best. Coolest lighting effects and positive vibe going on! Goo Goo Dolls comes in second.

AHh I miss going to concerts! The summer after my freshman year of college I interned at a company that allowed me to work at a music festival, and also gave me VIP tickets to festivals and concerts all summer! My first concert was N*SYNC, but I think my favorite concert was either Fall Out Boy (I just love them) Virgin Music Festival (Lilly Allen, Kanye, Foo Fighters, Goo Goo Dolls, Snow Patrol and more) and Goo Goo Dolls this summer! Michelle Branch opened for him and it was such a blast from the past!

Last year I took my 10 year old son and it was so fun to watch him so excited. My first concert however I think was Lisa Loeb.

Best concert ever was U2!!! They’ve been my favorite band forever and my husband bought me tickets to see them this past summer. They let the first 1000 people or something into this ring right up on stage and that’s where we were. My first concert was Britney Spears (Baby One More Time tour. Heck yes.)
I went to a music festival this summer and saw Lil Wayne, among many others, and can say he offically ROCKED. It was so fun and altough I do listen to rap, it’s not my go-to genre and I still really enjoyed it. Black Keys, James Taylor and Dashboard Confessional ( << don't make fun) are all top favorites, too.

Probably the best concert I saw was in Dallas, TX. I was in college & me & my teenage cousin went to the Rock the Mic tour. It included Jay Z(and some of his ppl on his label) and at the time 50 Cent(who was brand new and some of his G-Unit ppl). It was awesome. And an outdoor concert so very cool! 🙂

I LOVED boy bands and young female singers (ie: Britney) growing up (<geek alert) so I really loved all the Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, 98 Degrees, Britney, Spice Girls and Jessica Simpson concerts! My girlfriends and I still love going to see BSB. In fact, my favourite concert was probably two years ago when we scored front row. The four of us made signs, brought roses and acted like total nerds, but we got some "memorabilia" tossed our way and pics with them afterwards. It was totally worth it, ha ha! They even requested a BSB "remix" at our wedding.
