The weather is unbelievably gorgeous today and I felt so at peace on my run, even with my ‘90s music blasting on my iPod.
One song that made me smile? My Baby by Lil’ Romeo. When I was younger, I actually went to a Lil’ Romeo concert with a bunch of my girlfriends at the House of Blues. It’s crazy to me that Lil’ Romeo is now just Romeo and he’s 22!
That song made me think back to other concerts I’ve attended over the years as I ran:
- Green Day, Blink 182, Kid Rock
- Dave Matthews Band
- OAR
- Lil’ Romeo
- Ben Folds
- Bon Jovi
- Destiny’s Child
- Brooks & Dunn (x2!), Keith Urban
- Straight No Chaser
- Journey
The best concerts of the bunch in my eyes were Bon Jovi and Straight No Chaser. So good!
One concert I’ve always wanted to see? U2! My parents went a couple of years ago and said it was absolutely amazing.
All this concert talk reminds me that I really need to create a new playlist for Saturday’s half marathon!
Lunch
Lunch today was one of my favorites.
Tuna salad on a wheat bagel, served with carrot sticks and the largest Honeycrisp apple known to man.
Sadie didn’t leave my side for a second as I ate my tuna salad. At least someone likes the smell of that stuff!
Questions of the Afternoon
- What was the first concert you ever attended?
- What was the best concert you ever attended?
Jenny says
First Concert = Bush, 1997. Who, coincidentally, I saw a few weeks ago and got to meet my pre-teen heart throb Gavin Rossdale hahaha (http://www.theresyourkarma.com/2011/10/23/rex-manning-day/)
Best Concert = Paul McCartney, this summer. Hands down.
Jenn @ Lotus and Pie says

I’ve been to a U2 concert, and now I want to see Journey in concert 🙂 We can trade! I would also LOVE to see Coldplay and Taylor Swift.
But seriously, seeing U2 live was the greatest thing ever. I’d grown up listening to them since my dad is a hard core fan, and since my sister and I arrived hours early, we got to stand so close to the stage! One of my favorite memories is seeing Bono and the Edge sing “Mysterious Ways” (my favorite song!!) ten feet away from my face 🙂
Brittney says
My first concert was The Moffatts…aka Hanson from Canada. I’m sure it was terrible but I was in love.
The best concert I’ve ever been to was John Mayer and that’s probably because that’s the only big concert I’ve ever been to!
I looove tuna salad too, people at work used to tease me about the look and smell of it but I don’t mind 🙂
Cara @ EAT.PRAY.RUN. says

Green Day is my favorite band to see in concert. I’ve seen them twice and both shows were amazing! Love them!
I saw U2 the last time they came to the Bay Area and the show was phenomenol. Lenny Kravitz opened for them and was so good. Loved it the whole thing!

Second best was Dave Matthews. They are incredible in concert!

Oh, first concert I ever saw was Backstreet Boys (I was an Nsync fan though!!), but the best I’ve been to would probably have to be The Hangout, this outdoor/beach music festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama last year.. SO much fun! I saw a bunch of artists, including Ray LaMontagne and Michael Franti!

meg says
AHh I miss going to concerts! The summer after my freshman year of college I interned at a company that allowed me to work at a music festival, and also gave me VIP tickets to festivals and concerts all summer! My first concert was N*SYNC, but I think my favorite concert was either Fall Out Boy (I just love them) Virgin Music Festival (Lilly Allen, Kanye, Foo Fighters, Goo Goo Dolls, Snow Patrol and more) and Goo Goo Dolls this summer! Michelle Branch opened for him and it was such a blast from the past!
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
The last concert I saw was Ke$ha and B.O.B. My favorite would have to be Maroon 5! I love Adam Levine and he sounds just as good live as he does on the radio!
Kerryne says
Concerts are the best. I am a HUGE Bonjovi fan. Really huge. I even got my kids obsessed 🙂 I have seen him four times now and swear every show he gets better and better. Last year I took my 10 year old son and it was so fun to watch him so excited. My first concert however I think was Lisa Loeb.
Catriona says
First – Backstreet Boys ( I was 10 and went with my mom, my sister, my friend, and her mom lol)
Best – Avett Brothers in Omaha. SO good!!!
I’m jealous that you’ve seen Blink 182, that must have been so entertaining!

Rascal Flatts(first concert!)- 4 times
Fall Out Boy- 3 times
Jason Mraz- 3 times (I love him!)
But my best concert was Blink 182- 2 years ago. They had just gotten back together so they played all of their best songs! It was amazing! 🙂
Emily says
I’m so jealous you’ve seen Fall Out Boy 3x! I was never to see them before they went on “hiatus”. Maybe they’ll come back?

My first concert was Destiny’s Child for my 12th birthday. The best I’ve ever been to would be Foo Fighters, about two months ago. Completely amazing. I’m going to Gavin DeGraw/Michelle Branch in two weeks – maybe they’ll top it!

Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
First was Barenaked Ladies (well, unless you count Sesame Street Live… because that was my real first!!) and the best was by far John Mayer & Train. Train opened and each band played for 2 hours. My ticket was about $40… definitely great value for money!!
Christina says
My first concert was Garth Brooks when I was in 5th grade for my dad’s birthday.
Best concert ever was U2!!! They’ve been my favorite band forever and my husband bought me tickets to see them this past summer. They let the first 1000 people or something into this ring right up on stage and that’s where we were. We had to get there 4 hours before the opening band went on and I had to pee in a humid port-a-pottie with no toilet paper but it was SO worth it!
Emily says
Oh my goodness, so jealous that you were able to see Green Day and Blink together!
My first concert was Aaron Carter and Hanson! I have such a tough time picking my favorite concert, I think seeing Tom Petty with my dad ranks pretty highly though!
Nathan Miller says
Tom Petty was my first and none will ever come close to that music icon
Clare says
I’ve seen U2 twice!!! They came to Spartan stadium at Michigan State and the only other band that played there before was Rolling Stones back in like, 2002. If you EVER have the chance to see U2– GO. PAY ANY PRICE!!
My first concert was Britney Spears (Baby One More Time tour. Heck yes.)
I went to a music festival this summer and saw Lil Wayne, among many others, and can say he offically ROCKED. It was so fun and altough I do listen to rap, it’s not my go-to genre and I still really enjoyed it. Black Keys, James Taylor and Dashboard Confessional ( << don't make fun) are all top favorites, too.
Kathleen says
U2 is an awesome concert- I have been a groupie since the 1980’s and saw them this summer on their 360 tour. Highly recommend – Bon Jovi is also another fav of mine. He looks better as he ages. I just love the leather vest – he’s a hot hot hottie. Bruce Springsteen also puts on an amazing show.
Kate says
I LOVE LOVE LOVE La Croix, especially the grapefruit flavor! My boyfriend makes fun of me because I’m absolutely obsessed with seltzer water. It ‘s flavorful and fizzy without the calories, how could you not love it?!?

The 1st concert I ever attended was a Christian concert. We went w/ the youth group of my church at the time. I apologize it was so long ago I cannot remember. I know right I’m so getting old??!! LOL!
Probably the best concert I saw was in Dallas, TX. I was in college & me & my teenage cousin went to the Rock the Mic tour. It included Jay Z(and some of his ppl on his label) and at the time 50 Cent(who was brand new and some of his G-Unit ppl). It was awesome. And an outdoor concert so very cool! 🙂
Emily says
edited to add: I saw Amy Winehouse perform at the bar I worked at in Dublin in 2004 and it’s a performance I feel lucky to have been able to see as I was a huge fan at the time (and still am).
Emily says
My first concert was Kris Kross (I must have been 9 or 10) and my favorites, for pure showmanship and energy of the performance, are Red Hot Chili Peppers and David Gray.
Kaella says
First Concert: Up in Smoke Tour with Snoop, Eminem, Warren G, Nate Dogg etc etc! It was really fun! Although there was a lot of illegal activity going on around me and my brother. I have no clue why my parents let us go!!
I LOVED boy bands and young female singers (ie: Britney) growing up (<geek alert) so I really loved all the Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, 98 Degrees, Britney, Spice Girls and Jessica Simpson concerts! My girlfriends and I still love going to see BSB. In fact, my favourite concert was probably two years ago when we scored front row. The four of us made signs, brought roses and acted like total nerds, but we got some "memorabilia" tossed our way and pics with them afterwards. It was totally worth it, ha ha! They even requested a BSB "remix" at our wedding.
I would LOVE to see Keith Urban!
Samantha C says
First concert – NKOTB. I was 7 and cried the WHOLE TIME.
Best concert? Tie between Indigo Girls acoustic tour in 2001 and the most recent Rush concert (Moving Pictures tour.) Atmosphere. Amazing music. Plus they’re two of my all time favorite bands.
Most fun though had to be seeing n*Sync for a friends birthday when I was 16. The opening act was BeWitched and that silly song C’est la vie. Talk about hilariously awesome.
Elly says
First concert – Big Day Out 2000 (an Australian concert festival thingy)
Best concert – Red Hot Chilli Peppers in 2003 the day I finished my last ever uni exam 🙂
Other concerts –
Ben Folds (5 times now! We’re diehard fans)
LIVE (a couple of times)
Coldplay
U2
Powderfinger (a couple of times)
Sufjan Stevens (2x)
Eskimo Joe (2x)
The Living End (2x)
Kylie Minogue
Death Cab for Cutie
Train
Pete Murray
Ben Lee
Missy Higgins
Josh Pyke
I think a couple of others too but they are blurring in my mind!!
PS – I’m an Aussie, if you couldn’t tell 😉
AliCat says
Thank heavens I’m not the only Aussie here! My first concert was Spiderbait and any Cat Empire concert ranks among my favourites (Bluesfest circa 2004 if I had to pick) but I was worried no-one would know who they are 🙂
Elly says
Yay for another Aussie!! I’ve seen Spiderbait too – I knew I was forgetting some! 🙂
Laura says
I can’t believe I haven’t been to one single concert in my life…
Charlie @ The Runner Beans says
First ever concert was Kylie Minogue. Best ever concert was Coldplay in Singapore. It was epic. Favourite concert though would be watching The Killers with my best friend in the front row. We had bruises on our hips and knees from the barriers but it was worth it!
Katie says
I still go to lots of concerts. But the first one that I got to choose was Celine Dion, right after “My Heart Will Go On” was so big in Titanic. She came out of the floor of the United Center (in Chicago) on the bow of a fake ship. Absurd!
