Early Morning Wake Up

September 28, 2012 by Julie 116 Comments

After spending a little more than a week away from the gym, it felt good to be back today! There’s something about the gym atmosphere that motivates me and I like my morning routine.

What I do not like is when Ryan sets the alarm for 4:45 a.m. without telling me. 5 a.m. is the time we agreed on. I can wrap my head around waking up at 5 a.m., but there is something horrific about waking up in the four o’clock hour.

Brutal!

horrible alarm

(Source)

Fortunately for Ryan, I didn’t realize that he set the alarm for 4:45 a.m. until we were walking out the door and I glanced at the clock. Some words were exchanged, I’ll just tell you that.

Once we arrived at the gym, I was tempted to hit the weights, but knew my muscles needed a break after yesterday’s living room workout, so I hopped on the elliptical and did my 50 minute elliptical interval workout instead. Sweaty!

Breakfast

We’re running very low on food right now but are trying to make it through Sunday without stopping by the grocery store, so today’s breakfast included the food we had on hand.

eggs broccoli onion

Eggs + Shredded cheese + Onion + Broccoli

scrambled eggs with broccoli and onion

And a banana on the side!

Question of the Morning

  • What time do you wake up?
  • How early is “horrifically early” for you in the morning?

I wake up at 5 a.m. most weekdays and trrry to sleep in on the weekends, though I am usually awake by 7:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Horrifically early for me is anytime before 5 a.m. on weekdays and anytime before 6 a.m. on weekends. Ick!

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I normally wake up at 5:30, but the past few weeks I’ve been sleeping in until 7! It’s been heavenly and feel so indulgent. I would say anything before 4:30 strikes me as psychotic/still the middle of the night.

I usually sleep until 7 on the weekdays and about 8 on the weekends. I am soo not a morning person, so anything in the 6:00 hour is tough! And anything before that, watch out- I will probably be grumpy for awhile! : )

I’m up at 6:30am and sometimes fifteen minutes earlier depending on what workout I’m doing or if I have to be at work earlier. I want to train myself to get up earlier so ill have more time before work though, but it’s tough– I got out of the habit this summer!

Believe it or not, I wake up at 4:00 am every week day. I have to leave for work by 6:30 am, so I get up early enough to workout beforehand. I’m totally a morning person, so it’s okay! On the weekends, I sleep in until 5:00 or 5:30. 🙂

I normally wake up around 5:15 on the weekdays and much later on the weekends – when I make up for lost sleep. It’s funny how the concept of sleep, sleeping in, using time wisely has changed so much for me the past few years. I remember when sleeping in was the best thing ever, and now I (sometimes) think of it as lost time.

Oh yeah, I’d exchange some words as well. The 4 hour should not even be considered unless you’re catching a plane somewhere!

I get up at 6:50am after the Mr is done. I really wish I could sleep past 7:30am on the weekends. I don’t get to bed until 12-12:30am and I feel like I should get more sleep but my body says, “not gonna happen lady!”

I get up at 6:15am most days but 5:45am on Fridays. I do 30 min workout in the morning mon-thur and 30-hr after work those days. On Friday i like to get a full 60 min in before work so i get up at 5:45am! Then after work friday i am really free and don’t have a workout. On Saturdays i do my long runs so i get up at 6:50am and then sunday i normally sleep in which usually means 9 at the latest. Anything before 5am seems way too early! I could do 5:30 am’s if i really wanted to…lol But i need my 8-9 hrs of sleep and don’t want to go to bed any earlier than 9pm!

I love working out first thing in the am. I would like to eventually get to doing my full 60 min in the morning! With some bonus work outs here and there like biking after work with my hubby. He works shift work so our schedules arent the same at all! I get woken up between 11pm and 2am every night when he comes to bed:( Only other alternative is separate beds and thats not an option:p

OMG that is soo funny and soo true! Up until last week my husband would set his alarm for 6am and it would go off, but he would just hit snooze 4 times until 6:30! That morning I had glorious plans to sleep until 7am, which clearly did not happen. Let’s just say he knows better than to keep hitting the snooze button for thirty minutes 🙂

Haha, I can so relate to this! Except, I’ve got to admit, I’m the snooze button hitter in our household. My poor husband… I think I need to find a vibrating alarm watch or something like that. If there’s snugglies, there’s got to be something out there in the market like that :).

I usually work out after school (though the last couple weeks have been FULL of meetings and such, that I haven’t worked out…)On the weekends, I usually wake up naturally around 6:30-7:00, wide awake.

It feels SO good to be done with my workout, but it was TOUGH getting up that early …I took a spinning class, so it was good because the instructor was motivating…I’m not sure I’ll be ablke to motivate myself first thing in the morning, that early! I had to take two days off the last two weeks at work, so I moved my hours on those days (we work in 50 minute sessions) to various days throughout the week. I’ve been getting up at five so I can get to work by 7. BRUTAL! I was debating keeping the routine, though, so I can start going to the gym in the mornings before work. They say it takes two weeks to make a habit, right?
On weekends, if I get woken up before 8, there WILL be hell to pay. Except, usually it’s my cat, and she just wants to cuddle. Such a needy little thing.

Welcome back! I know how good it feels to get back into your ‘normal routine.’

Ever since I read your morning workout post explaining how to workout in the morning- I have totally revamped my morning routine. I now get up (and have been for over a month now!) at 5am and go to the gym 5 days a week. It has eliminated ALL of my excuses and has been SUCH a liberating feeling watching my body change and get stronger simply because I’m actually going instead of saying I’m going to go.

However, I’m one of ‘those people’ who set 3 alarms (starting at 4:45am) so I am ready to get up at 5am and greet my day (aka the gym). It helps me to give my body a warning… however I never actually get UP until 5am. Getting out of bed before then just seems horrible! 🙂

    Have a fabulous weekend, Julie!
