Field Day

November 1, 2012 by Julie 75 Comments

Today is flying by! After spending the morning finishing a freelance piece, I hightailed it over to Marion Senior Services to deliver lunches to the seniors on my Meals on Wheels route before making it home in time for a quick lunch that I tried to subtly eat while on the phone for a conference call.

I wonder if they could hear me chewing as I polished off the end of a bag of chocolate-covered almonds?

Chocolate Covered Almonds

I tried to be discreet!

Lunch also included a MorningStar Farms spicy black bean burger sandwich with Dijon mustard and spring mix greens.

Plus two carrots that I washed and cut into rough pieces to eat on the side.

November

I forgot to say Happy November to you guys this morning! I have a feeling November is going to absolutely fly by since the holiday season seems to kick into gear immediately following Halloween.

We’ll be celebrating our first round of Thanksgiving with Friendsgiving at our house this weekend, but first we have to make it through an obstacle course run!

Ryan and I are getting excited about the Hero Rush, our first 5K obstacle course/mud run that we’re doing with a group of Ryan’s coworkers on Saturday morning. Having never completed an obstacle course/mud run before, I’m not really sure what to expect. I envision a race that is part run and part intense adult version of Field Day.

Please tell me you guys had Field Day in elementary school? It was the best day of the year and featured tons of different outdoor relay races and games. All of the students wore t-shirts representing their class and while I never remember winning a thing, it was always a blast!

Question of the Afternoon

  • What are you looking forward to in November?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I won a box stacking contest during field day when I was in 5th grade. Clearly, I was an athlete to be jealous of. Box stacking!? 😉
I’m looking forward to running my first half marathon this weekend and Thanksgiving, of course! Bring it on, November!

We DEFINITELY had field day in elementary. I loved it! I think my friend and I won a three-legged race one year. 😀

I’m really looking forward to Thanksgiving this year. My husband and I decided this will be the first year that we host the big day. So excited to start healthy traditions in my house! (As in … no fried turkey. haha)

Oh yes, track & field day was always a big deal at our school! It was so fun!

I’m most looking forward to my family coming out our way for Thanksgiving! I haven’t seen them since April, and it’s the first time we’ll be hosting since we’ve been married. I’m so excited!

We had field day! The whole school was split between the red team and the blue team and you stayed on that team your entire time at my school (private school). Although I think your obstacles will be a little more army boot-camp like than field day!

Aside from eating myself into a food coma on Thanksgiving, strangely enough I also look forward to black friday. Not because I’ll be shopping, but I work part-time in retail at the mall (bath & body works) and that day is always so much fun!

Whenever I’m on the phone with my mom she’s always like “I can hear you chewing” hahaha awkward! I am looking forward to going to Hawaii for Thanksgiving! It will be weird not having the typical Thanksgiving that I love having every year, but I can’t complain about going to paradise instead 🙂

Field day was my JAM! We all got so competetive. I remember one kid who ran home crying (like, left the field and went to his house in the middle of the school day) because his team lost a tug of war. My slate isn’t exactly clean. I was captain of my kickball team at 5th grade field day, we lost, and I cried while I buried the team roster in the kindergarted garden. I am not ashamed 😀

We didn’t have Field Day at my school(s). Bummer. Sounds like fun, though.

I’ve got two things I’m looking forward to this month. This weekend, I’m volunteering at Women of Faith with my mom, sister and two of my aunts (Volunteering=Free Admission, Free Souvenirs!), and in about three weeks, I’ll be going to my cousin’s Senior play, Walt Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast,” where he plays the Beast.” I’m so proud (and a little jealous) of him!

I did a 10k run a few weeks back called to hell and back…we had to cross rivers, climb 10ft walls, go through a swamp, and go up the side of one of the “mountains” in Wicklow. We even had to crawl under barbed wire in thick deep mud! It was epic, and freezing cold but I loved it and felt amazing after!

Field Day was awesome! I went to a smaller school so the 8th graders were the “captains” of each team, and then they got a certain number of 7th, 6th, 5th, 4th.. etc. graders on their team. We had the silly events too – dizzy bat, shoe fling, all of it!

Then there’d be a huge rally at the end with the winning team. Best part – everyone got popsicles after! Best day ever! It was always toward the end of the year so it was a great way to feel like summer was coming.

I’m looking forward to spending Thanksgiving in New York and seeing the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Field days were the best! My little brother and I used to practice the water balloon toss in our backyard to prepare every year (its all about cradling the balloon as you catch it!) So, during orientation week my freshman year of college they had a big-kid version with all the incoming freshman…and I came in first place in the water balloon toss! All my practice finally paid off!
