First Perfume

April 10, 2013 by Julie 249 Comments

When the alarm went off this morning, I was wide awake. That almost never happens! I feel like I usually arrive at the gym half awake, so it was nice to feel energetic first thing in the morning. I’ll take it!

This morning I began my workout with a 20 minute elliptical warm up before setting up a little station for myself to complete today’s Best Body Boot Camp workout. There is limited free floor space in my gym, so I always try to lay down a mat and grab an exercise ball if I need one to mark my territory, otherwise I’ll have to complete circuit workouts among the weights which makes me feel awkward and in the way.

I loved how my gym in Orlando had a loft space that people could use to complete workouts that required open floor space. Floor space is a hot commodity!

Breakfast

Once we arrived home from the gym, it was time for breakfast.

Healthy Whole Wheat French Toast

I made myself whole wheat French toast with cinnamon and inhaled it!

IMG_0574

It has been far too long since I’ve had French toast and this breakfast made me way too happy.

Whole Wheat French Toast

First Perfume

With breakfast in our bellies, Ryan and I leashed Sadie up for her morning walk. As we strolled around the neighborhood, we passed two teenage boys walking to the bus stop. We actually smelled them before we saw them because their cologne was so strong! Oh, high school days.

The strong smell of their cologne prompted a conversation about our first perfume/cologne. Ryan said he was all about Curve in high school.

Curve CologneHe also said Michael Jordan cologne was quite popular among his friends. As someone who grew up outside of Chicago when the Chicago Bulls were winning billions of championships, Michael Jordan cologne was very popular among the guys I knew as well. Everyone wanted to “Be Like Mike!” (<— I may or may not have this song on my iPod.) Michael Jordan CologneWhen I was in high school I was all about Gap Dream perfume.

Gap Dream Perfume Remember that!? Or perhaps you preferred Gap Grass? Or Gap Om?Gap Grass Perfume

I also succumbed to the Abercrombie & Fitch trend and had a mini bottle of A&F perfume that was my “special occasion” perfume. So snazzy!

A&FBut my first perfume?

Love's Baby SoftLove’s Baby Soft! Please tell me someone else out there remembers this stuff!

Question of the Morning

  • Do you remember your first perfume or cologne?

Though it’s not a perfume, as far as scents are concerned, I also loved Bath and Body Works Sun-Ripened Raspberry body splash. That stuff is like 7th grade in a bottle for me!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Do you remember teen spirit deodorant! Ha that stuff was great. I can’t remember my first perfume but I think it was a Ralph Lauren one in a pink bottle, I remember my BF in 8th grade giving it to me. I never really liked the smell of it and it traveled with me through many apartments until I finally through it out at some point in college. Gosh I sound like a hoarder.

I do remember Love’s Baby Soft! I always thought it smelled like barbies when I was little… and yes I realize that’s weird.

Never really rocked perfume; always gave me a headache. Tons of guys in my school were wearing Curve, though – in fact, I may have bought it for a boyfriend once.

Too funny, Gap dream was the trend for every girl I think! I also remember Hollister perfume in high school because my friend was the model on the box so we all had to have it. My VERY first perfume though, Tommy Hilfiger’s Tommy Girl. Surprised that wasn’t on your list also!

Oh I like to think of Love’s Baby Soft as the “training bra” of perfumes. It’s one most of us had or most of us of a certain age might’ve started off with Avon’s Sweet Honesty. In high school I wore Tatiana, Wind Song (“I can’t seem to forget you…your Wind Song stays on my miiiiind.” What does that even mean?), Odyssey, then graduated to Estee Lauder’s White Linen, Cinnabar and Youth Dew. Oh my Lord! I’m getting a head just remembering the smells!

Now I’m strictly Ralph Lauren Blue or some french perfume called Fleurs Blanches from Anthro.

My first perfume was Exclamation, probably when I was about 13. I also used Loves Baby Soft. In my early twenties I was addicted to the GAP fragrances. I still have bottles of all the scents. Dream and Heaven were my favorites. I still wear Dream from time to time.

Oh my gosh – YES! I still love that scent. I was partial to the bath and body works fruit sprays too in high school. And I hate when a gym doesn’t have space for you to do circuits and core stuff. And it is totally better if there is a space where you aren’t front and center in the workout room. My YMCA has a space but you are basically working out in front of all the cardio equipment! So annoying sometimes.

I totally got on the Love’s Baby Soft bandwagon. I remember getting a gift set one year and thought I was the bomb. I also looooooved Debbie Gibson’s Electric Youth! It was bright pink and had a lightening bolt in the bottle. I used to get so mad because my sisters always called it electric puke. That was probably a more fitting name now that I think of it. I also loved Gap Grass, but I think I was in college then. 🙂

This was a fun walk down memory lane! Gap Dream was one of my first perfumes, too. However my first “big girl” perfume–from the beauty counters at the department store–was Clinique Happy. I got it for Christmas in 7th grade, and literally sprayed it on every piece of clothing I was wearing every single day. The bottle was gone in just a few months!

Back in highshool in the late 90s Victoria Secret made these delicious perfumes like vanilla-peach, vanilla-caramel and vanilla-apricot which smelled like heave. They they stopped making them. I still remember how great they smelled. I also used BBW sun ripened raspberry and fresia was ah-mazing!
