Five Miles Before Six

January 8, 2013 by Julie 109 Comments

Ryan and I headed to the gym nice and early this morning. To stay on track with my half marathon training plan, I needed to run five miles today and managed to complete my run on the treadmill before 6 a.m.

Five miles before six!

During the last two miles of my run, some pretty stellar songs popped up on my iPod thanks to a new workout playlist.

Some favorites:

  • Rudimental ft. John Newman – Feel the Love
  • Emeli Sandé – Next to Me
  • Tom Hangs ft. Shermanology (Avicii Edit) – Blessed

I took some time to create a new running playlist last Friday and the new music did a good job of motivating me throughout my run. I still need to add a few more songs so the playlist is long enough for next Saturday’s half marathon, so if you have any song recommendations, I’d love to hear them!

Past workout playlists:

  • Chicago Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon Playlist
  • Savannah Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon Playlist
  • Triathlon Playlist
  • Rockin’ Playlist
  • Disney Playlist
  • ’90s Playlist
  • Run, Run, Run Playlist
  • Spring 2012 Playlist
  • Summer 2011 Playlist
  • Spring 2011 Playlist
  • Workout Playlist Trifecta

Breakfast

Breakfast this morning came together in no time at all thanks to some prep work last night.

Overnight Oats with Banana

Overnight oats topped with banana slices!

After snapping this photo, I ended up adding more almond milk to the oats because they were a little too sticky and needed some more liquid. (We’re all out of chia seeds at the moment, so I didn’t use as much almond milk when I made the oats last night since the chia seeds usually help to thicken the oats a bit.)

Wow, you are quite accomplished this morning. I really need to start making time in my morning to get more workouts in instead of waiting until after work. Whenever I work out in the morning I always feel more accomplished, have more energy, and am more ready to tackle the day. Getting out of my warm bed in the a.m. is just SO hard, though! 😉

    Hi Julie!
I have just discovered your blog over the last week. I LOVE it! I think we may be kindred spirits 🙂 I started my blog barely a month ago, and all your “blogging” tips and even your layout have given me so many great ideas. Thank you for being willing to share! I also read the article about how Ryan deals with your blogging, and how you have learned to balance your passions with him! I appreciated that too (just got married in September). Anyway, just wanted to say thanks! I love your blog- keep it up!

    Thank you!
Also, I apparently have really small ears and have a hard time gettng earbuds to stick as well as hear anythng. Do you have similar issues and do the yurbuds help?
    Thanks!

you can heat them, but i really prefer them cold! one of my coworkers would make them and then heat them in the microwave for 10 seconds in the morning to “take the edge off.” 🙂

and i’ve never really had issues with headphones in the past, but the i would think the yurbuds might help you out because you almost twist them into your ears. they’re really comfy and don’t move at all. they feel a lot more secure than other headphones i’ve tried.

I had been waiting 4 years for the YMCA in m town to get it. . . I am sure I sounded like a broken record always asking when they were going to start teaching it. I already teach aerobics there, so pretty much at every staff meeting I would bring it up. They finally started teaching it this summer and now I am going to do the training so I can teach it too! It was always hard for me to read on your blog when you were doing it regularly before you moved. . . keep mentioning it to people at your gym – you never know!

I am 100% with Joelle on this one. I’ve been jamming to “I Knew You Were Trouble”, including singing it to my husband who then proceeds to give me a funny look because clearly he stuck around and wasn’t “trouble”. 😉 I’ve been meaning to add this song to my own playlist because I know it’s going to give me that extra boost in my workout. Although, I also know that I’m undoubtedly going to lip-sync it during my workout for all of my fellow gym-goers to see. Hehe. 😀
