From Frito Pie to Breakfast

April 10, 2012 by Julie 70 Comments

After reading your comments on last night’s post, one thing is for certain.

Apparently I must try Frito pie.

Prior to last night, I had never even heard of Frito pie, but quite a few of you say it’s a “must try.” Is it a very common dish? I feel so left out!

After doing some investigating into the ingredients of the dish, I can see why you guys are singing its praises. I’m not about to turn down anything with lots of cheese, corn chips and chili and promise you that I will be on the lookout for Frito pie and will try it the next chance I get.

Workout

Moving right along from Frito pie talk to workouts, because that’s a natural flow…

Today’s workout was another awesome circuit workout from the Best Body Boot Camp workout list. It was challenging mainly because the rest time between each exercise was only 10 seconds.

I ended up altering the rest time and increased it by five seconds because I felt incredibly rushed trying to grab weights or an exercise ball in less than 10 seconds. The extra five seconds still had me moving fast from one exercise to the next but took away that frantic feeling.

Breakfast

I wanted cheese for breakfast. But I also wanted waffles. And fruit.

Why not have it all?

I toasted two whole wheat waffles and topped one with melted (leathery-looking) Colby jack cheese and the other with a combination of ricotta cheese and cottage cheese and freshly sliced strawberries.

Random, but it worked and satisfied my crazy cravings.

Wait, Wait… Don’t Tell Me

After breakfast, I leashed up Sadie for our morning walk and listened to the latest Wait, Wait… Don’t Tell Me podcast.

I am seriously obsessed with this podcast. If you have a long commute or get bored on long walks with your dog, I highly recommend checking it out. I’ve briefly talked about it on the blog before, but it cracks me up while also holding my interest as the panelists answer quiz questions about current events. I have now made it my mission to make it to a live taping in Chicago one day!

Question of the Morning

  • If you could attend the live taping of one television or radio show, what show would you choose?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

A frito pie?? I’ve never heard of that either but it sounds like something that might be classic in the midwest! And ooh I’ll have to listen to that podcast! I absolutely LOVE Ellen– I watch clips from her show every week and think she is so positive and hilarious! I’d love to go see her!

Maybe frito pie is a midwest thing? I’m from northern NJ and I’ve never heard of it in my life until reading your blog post last night! As for live tapings, I’d love to go see Dr. Oz or the Ellen show.

I wouldn’t waste my time with frito pie if I were you. Cincinnati chili (I prefer 4-way) is the best way to eat chili anyway. Fritos are gross to me.

It’s nerdy, but I’ve always wanted to go to a taping of Jeopardy and/or Wheel of Fortune. Love the classic game shows.

I’m new to your blog (through pinterest), and I am so happy I found it! I love your treadmill interval workouts, I’m always looking for a way to vary my routine and beat the boredom. Looking forward to trying some of your workouts this week!

I’m also obsessed with egg sandwiches (I eat them pretty much every day). As well as peanut butter! Oh, and I’m dying to try your protein pancake recipes. Love pancakes, and sneaking protein into them? Win win situation.

Haha, I thought everyone ate chili w/ fritos and cheese! Definitely a childhood staple passed on from my Midwestern parents. However, provided you are a fritos girl, I would make it more of a DIY frito pie (like a taco bar) so you can layer to your personal preference and each person can control the amount of cheese/fritos! Plus nothing will get soggy. Also, using the single serving bags of fritos as “bowls” is a great bbq/tailgating option!

Hi Julie! Your chicken salad looks great!

I am planning a party for some newlywed friends of mine this weekend and I was wondering if you had any healthy pasta salad recipes? There will be plenty of carbs consumed through beer drinking 🙂 so I thought a light, pasta salad would go well with the rest of the food!

    Thanks! 😀

I’d never had Frito Pie until I moved out West. Here, the Sonic drive-in sells it on their menu of delicious sides.

Sadly (or not, depending on your perspective), I gave it up when I returned to my low-carb diet.
