Funny Pet Names

August 29, 2012 by Julie 247 Comments

Another day, another quality Best Body Boot Camp workout! I didn’t follow the prescribed total body workout exactly today because my legs are still quite sore from Monday’s strength training and my body felt a little tired going into the workout. I scaled the workout back a bit, but still left feeling happy that I worked up a little sweat!

Breakfast

Following the gym, I ate a banana as I prepared a batch of scrambled eggs for breakfast. chiquita bananabanana peeled

Today’s batch of scrambled eggs included two eggs, apple chicken sausage and zucchini. It hit the spot!

Funny Pet Names

After breakfast, Ryan and I took Sadie on her morning walk.

I laced up my favorite pair of Reebok SmoothFlex run sneakers (first mentioned here) and also had a chance to try Reebok’s seamless long bra top that the company sent me to try.

julie in reebok gear

The tank is really comfortable and I love the breathability and heather blue color.

reebok blue long tank

An added bonus? The length! I hate it when workout tops are too short and this one is nice and long.

Back to our walk!

During our morning walk with Sadie, we ran into our neighbor who was out walking her dog, PeeWee. PeeWee’s name suits him perfectly, as he’s a tiny little thing with a big personality.

After saying hello, Ryan and I started talking about some of the funniest dog names we’ve heard throughout the years.

The dog park where we used to bring Sadie to run and play in Orlando was the perfect place for overhearing amazing dog names.

Our favorites:

  • Cheese
  • Frank
  • Little Dog

I think Cheese is my all-time favorite dog name. When I heard the guy yell, “CHEESE! Get over here!” I almost lost it. So unexpected!

We also thought it would’ve been funny to name Sadie something that didn’t fit her at all. Like “Spot.”

Question of the Day

  • What is the funniest or most amusing pet name you’ve heard?

When I was a little girl, we had a cat named Silly Billy, but I think Cheese takes the cake!

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Holy comments!! Your readers obviously love pets! We call Cooper, “Buns” (my hubby started this one) “Yiddy” (even though he is LARGE) and of course, “baby”. 🙂

When I was in high school we got a new cat. I was babysitting a 4 yr old at the time & decided to let her name the cat. She went with, Shotgun Mailbox Jingle Bells…. just rolls off the tongue, huh? Shotgun was an awesome cat!

When my brother-in-law was about 10, he thought it would be hilarious to name a dog Nipples, so we’d have to yell Nipples when it ran away. Only a 10 year old boy could come up with a something like that!

The 2 funniest that stand out for me are “Ballsack”- the name of a very big male bulldog.
The second one is “D O G” but instead of pronouncing it as dog, it’s each single letter procounced quickly D.O.G. At first we didn’t realize it was the letters DOG. (DEEOGEE).

My mom found a little kitten in our front yard, when she finally got in clean she realized it was a beautiful white little thing. She decided to keep it and named her LilyBelle (my parents live in TN and my mom thought of herself as a Southern Belle). When I was home a few months before my wedding and LilyBelle was about 5 months old, I turned her over and discovered she was a HE! My mom cried for a couple of hours and then we went about renaming the cat. My brother voted for LarryBalls, but in the end Mr. Lily won. Mr. Lily now lives a big fat life with my dad and brother.

My boyfriends cat growing up was named Dust Mop. The poor thing was nameless for the first few weeks until his mom continuously found her sleeping on the dust mop. I just about died when he told me that story.

I have a brown tabby kitty and her name is potato. She has a round belly and she likes to roll around on the ground and when she does she looks like a potato rolling around on the counter. When people first hear her name they can’t help but laugh! There is also a cat that goes to our vet named pickles. That name made me laugh when I heard it!

I work in an Animal Rescue shelter and we constantly see cute and out right random names coming in for pets.

My favourite at the moment is Humberto!

However my own pets have ‘people’ names – when we first moved into our new place, I think our neighbors thought we had two kids with wired habits – not two cats!

My parents have a stray cat, actually they’ve had numerous strays (Stray Cat 1, who died, then Stray Cat 2, who is still around) but a couple weeks ago there was a kitten hanging around their house and my dad went to pick it up and it bit him. He went and got a tetanus shot since we have no idea where the cat has been. The cat has since stuck around and is warming up to my dad, who lovingly calls him Tetanus.

My sister has a 17 year old cat that just goes by TitTit. Um, yeah. Don’t say that out loud around others. Her original name was “Belle” but I guess TitTit was easier.

That’s about as good as the rabbit I named “Pascal” only to discover she wasn’t a he. So then she went from Ms. Bun to Bun Bun.

And my aunt & uncle had a feline named “C-for” C for Cat, don’t ya know

We have a cairn terrier (LIke ToTo from the wizard of oz) and he loves everybody and everything. So his name, Brutus, doesn’t fit his personality but at the same time, it does 🙂 His nickname “Bruise” or “Bruiser” doesn’t fit either haha!

I have a yellow Lab named Deacon and a black Lab named Reverend. 🙂 As a vet student, we hear some crazy pet names. A lady brought in a “female” kitten named Annabelle…we had to tell her that Annabelle was a male! She was determined to call him Annabelle so his name is now Mister Annabelle.

When I first got my cat his name was Mr Man, but that is what my sister was calling my new baby nephew for a nickname, and I didn’t want them to be the same, so my friend and I brainstormed for a new name…Norman. Sometimes it gets shortened to Norm, or other variations like Normie, or Normiekins, or Normalicious (so delicious!).

He definitely looks like a Norman:)

We have a little black female cat named Monkey, a big orange male cat named Carl, and a calico female named Jack Daniels. We call her Jack. When you have kids, and they get a kitty, they do NOT bother to find out the sex of the animal before naming it, LOL. We once had a girl cat named Guy. (We also have a rottweiler named Trudy – short for Gertrude. She is a big sweetie.)

Our dog is a German shepherd/lab mix (we think he’s more of a Belgian Malinois than German) and he likely has some other blood in there too. Anyways, we got him from a no-kill shelter a few years ago and was already named “Cartman” (like South Park). The employee who worked with us LOVED him and made us promise to not change his name. We had planned on naming him “Wabash” after one of the signature songs played at our college’s sporting events, but I can’t bear to break that promise. So if Carty ever gets a little brother (maybe even sister), I will make no promises other than to name that one Wabash.

My boyfriend was driving to pick up our new kittens and we were chatting on his drive. He told me, “I’ve got it! The kittens will be named Lou and Ig.”
I took awhile to respond, clearly confused, and not really into the names, especially considering that one kitten was a female. Ig? Really?
As the “ummmmm” came out of my mouth, he responded, “When they’re bad, you can just yell IGLOO!!!” I busted out laughing and my boyfriend’s creativity. As it turns out, the names stuck- well, sort of. Iggy and Lulu are my adorable brother and sister kitties. They’re all black, which makes their names even funnier:)

Then we decided she needed a middle name, so then she become Maggie O.T. when she was being scolded. the O.T stands for Tulsa, OK where we got her.
