Girl Scout Cookie Season

February 20, 2013 by Julie 122 Comments

Early this afternoon, I headed out to a Taste of Ocala committee meeting. We discussed room layout, sponsors and beverages and the 90-minute meeting passed quickly.

On my way back to our house, I popped into a local alterations shop because a dress I am getting altered was supposed to be ready to pick up. Unfortunately there was a communication mix up between the person who took my order and the woman who was supposed to do the alterations, so my dress wasn’t ready, but the trip wasn’t a complete loss.

Girl Scout Cookies

Girl Scout cookie season is upon us!

I made sure to buy a box of Caramel deLites (aka Samoas, but I will forever call them Caramel deLites) and Thin Mints before driving home. The Thin Mints immediately went into the freezer because frozen Thin Mints are the best! When I was growing up, my family always had a box of Thin Mints in the freezer and I loved crumbling them up over ice cream. Such a yummy treat!

Lunch

When I walked through the door, I immediately grabbed a small apple to eat as I prepared my lunch.

small apple

As for my main meal, I made myself a big salad and served it with a cup of Chobani Greek yogurt.

Salad with ranch

And you better believe I made my salad in the lettuce container to eliminate dirty dishes. Yes!

Question of the Afternoon

  • What kind of Girl Scout cookie is your favorite?
  • Do you call the cookies with caramel, coconut and chocolate Caramel deLites or Samoas?
  • Were you ever in Girl Scouts?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

We don’t have girl scout cookies here- i don’t think :S I was a girl scout though, or a brownie (which is a younger version) till they closed down. It was awesome fun!

Growing up I called them Caramel DeLites, but knew other people called them Samoas, but always resisted the change.

Also, Tagalongs v. Peanut Butter Patties? Do-Si-Dos and Peanut Butter Sandwiches?? I like the terms that actually tell you what the cookies are.

I was never a Girl Scout, but I sure like the cookies! My favorites are Tagalongs (PB patties) and Do Si Dos (PB sandwich) 🙂

I will forever call them samoas! That’s what they were called when I was in Girls Scouts and it makes me sad they changed the name, haha. I’m with most people on the Thin Mints and Samoas reigning supreme.

Samosas are definitely my favorite (I didn’t even know the name was changed!) Luckily for me and my girlish figure, our Health Warrior Coconut Chia Bars taste just like Samoas, yet they are healthy, so I nibble on those instead!

FYI to all the cookie eaters: There are actually 2 different bakeries that service the Girl Scouts. One of them calls their coconut cookies Caramel deLites, and the other calls them Samoas. Likewise, one company calls the chocolate/pb cookie Peanut Butter Patties and the other calls them Tagalongs 🙂 Both cookies still exist today, you just get the one made by the bakery from which your district orders. The recipes vary slightly between bakeries as well (you can google picture comparisons).

I remember the first time I ate a Peanut Butter Patty instead of a Tagalong, I could immediately tell it wasn’t the same; the ratios were different. That’s how I found all this information on the different bakeries! hah. Now I don’t mind the -slight- difference but at first it was jarring. 😉

Thanks for the info! I haven’t bought any GS cookies in years, and it is soooo tempting to buy them since a woman in my office is selling them for $2! I may have to buy them and put them in the waaaay back of the freezer!

Samoas!!! Definitely that and the Tagalongs are the best. It’s all about the coconut, chocolate, and peanut butter.

As a grade schooler, I was in girl scouts through the 5th grade. My mom was even the troop leader! You should see our pictures, those vests were styling.

I love Peanut Butter Patties, Thin Mints and Caramel deLites equally. I was a Brownie/Girl Scout from 2nd to 4th grade, but I never really loved scouting.

I love having the last salad out of the clamshell! No dishes is the best, the containers take up a TON of space in a garbage can though, whats up with that?!

Loooove thin mints in the freezer. I personally feel all chocolate should be served, cold or frozen! I love thin mints AND caramel delites which I also will always name them Caramel DeLites! That’s just how it is! I do the same exact thing with salads like that! Much easier to deal with! I was a girl scout…hardly recall those times though. I do recall a girl in my troop who was really mean and pushed me once when we were all standing in line for something. Hopefully she’s a much nice person these days!

Ugh, Girl Scout Cookie season is a blessing and curse! You can never just have a couple. And great choice on the flavors…those are clearly the best. 🙂

You can sure bet I was a girl scout! 3rd to 6th grade! I made a very good friend there as well that I still talk to today! It was a very fun group to be a part of and the cookie season was definitely one of the biggest parts of girl scouts. My favorites back in the day were Animal Treasures and Ice Berry Pinatas. If you don’t know what these are, check them out here > http://www.slashfood.com/2007/01/22/the-best-retired-girl-scout-cookies/ I don’t like any of the cookies they have out now. The best cookies are no longer available anymore unfortunately 🙁
