Greens in a Glass

May 14, 2013 by Julie 33 Comments

Good afternoon!

I was up before dawn again for the early shift at the gym. Work today went well and I had fun taking a potential personal training client through a fitness assessment.

Once my shift was over, I quickly changed and got in a workout of my own before driving home.

Workout + Lunch

Today’s workout began with a quick 25 minute elliptical interval workout. The changing resistance levels kept me engaged and I followed up my elliptical session with two rounds of the functional training workout I shared yesterday.

I arrived home in the early afternoon and immediately busted out my blender to make a big green lemonade smoothie. I followed Brittany’s recipe but added the juice from a whole lemon and another half of a pear.

Green Lemonade Smoothie

It tasted so refreshing and was a great way to sneak in some greens!

Initial Tervis Tumbler

Sipping out of Ryan’s R-initial Tervis Tumbler made me realize that I cannot, for the life of me, locate my J Tervis Tumbler! I’m almost positive that I haven’t taken it out of our house within the past month or two and I have no idea where it could be. Also missing: A glass loaf pan. I think our dishwasher may be eating our dirty dishes.

I followed up my smoothie with leftovers from last night’s coconut ginger curry brown rice bowl and couple small handfuls of cashews.

Yum!

BICBands for Boston

By now you guys know how much I love BICBands workout headbands. They’ve always been a company that gives back (and makes an awesome headband that doesn’t slip!) and now Sandy, the owner of the company, created a Boston Strong headband with 100 percent of proceeds going to The One Fund to help the people most affected by the tragic events that occurred in Boston last month.

I really like BIC bands too! Such a great new limited edition band.

I’ve never thought to make greens into more of a lemonade–that is genius!

Wahoo for greens in a glass! That recipe sounds amazing. I need to try it out. I just got a juicer and am a little too pumped about it already (although that’s a smoothie, I bet it would be good in juice form:)

That’s so nice that you can just change and get your work out in before going home. But the early wake up doesn’t sound so fun! :/ I missed that post on the curry brown rice bowl, sounds delish!

Love the idea of a BICBand for Boston – it’s very appropriate and great that they are donating all proceeds to Boston. Sounds like you’re enjoying you new job – very inspirational as I’m considering a career switch as we speak 🙂

Julie (or anyone else), have you ever tried making a green drink that isn’t frozen? Most juices I’ve tried are room temp, which I like much better than frozen drinks but I am having a hard time finding a green drink that uses a blender instead of a juicer. Any thoughts?

Daang, girl, that’s some bright green juice! And with summer just around the corner, the thought of some delicious greens-packed smoothie that tastes like lemon sounds, well, a bit too good to be true! This just climbed to the top of my “smoothies to try soon” list, which is longer than you might imagine 🙂

I ordered a BIC band back in February (my first one ever!) for the St. Patrick’s Day Beat Beethoven 5K run and I absolutely loved it. When you first blogged about them and swore they didn’t slip, I have to admit, I was a little skeptical, but they really don’t slip at all 🙂

Awesome bands. Ugg I hate when things go missing! I once lost my ipod head phones crossing the street to my apartment. I re-traced my steps but no luck. Oh well! Hope you find your tumbler!

So this is a pretty random question, but I’ve been following your blog for a while and notice you work out right away in the morning (most days!). I’ve been doing crossfit at 5am for the past 4 months and am still trying to figure out what works best for me to eat before working out. I don’t want a huge breakfast, just something small in my stomach so I don’t feel like I’m going to pass out half way through the workout. Do you eat anything before you head to the gym in the morning? Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!

I love new ways to get veggies in! I’m not super into veggies so anything that tastes good is perfect. I’m gonna try this!

On another note…what things does your gym include in their new client/potential client assessment? I work in a gym as well and always like hearing what other gyms require.

So, now that you are an employee too, do people bug you during your own w/o timr? I knew a woman who said she all but donned a disguise (low slung cap, hair hiddn underneath, eyes down) or would risk not getting enough focused time for her w/o. i can tell you’d be happy to answer a quick question here and there (heck, you probably already did that), but you do need to protect “your time” too….

I accidentally moved back my Boston BIC band while running yesterday. My first thought was that I needed to pull it back up so it doesn’t fall off. I left it and it never moved.
