Half Speed

February 27, 2013 by Julie 143 Comments

Oh hey! Fancy seeing you here!

I hope your Wednesday is off to a promising start.

Just in case you’re moving a little slow this morning, I thought you might find comfort in the fact that you are not alone.

photo (1)

Someone else is moving at half-speed this morning.

I really need to take a video of my mornings with Sadie. She’s ridiculous.

First, Sadie barks at the back door to try to convince Ryan to play hooky and stay home from work. She is never successful and once she hears the garage door close, she gives up and returns to the kitchen looking defeated.

I then give her a kiss and a treat and she stands there watching me until I head into my office. She walks behind me, but doesn’t follow me into my office. She just stands in the doorway, looks at me like I’m a huge disappointment and gives a dramatic sigh before turning around to lay on the bed on the guest room. Her exaggerated sigh is way too amusing because it just sounds so human.

Workout

Today’s workout was another power circuit workout from Tina’s Best Body Boot Camp. When I was done, I took some time to stretch and went through a bunch of my favorite hip stretches.

As I was chillin’ in pigeon pose, I started to think about yoga. It has been a while since I’ve taken a yoga class and I think my body is beginning to crave it again. I don’t love the yoga classes that my gym offers (I miss the yoga classes at the Downtown Orlando YMCA!) and classes at local studios are rather expensive, but I think I may shop around for a discount package and try to integrate it into my routine again once BBBC is over. I miss it and know it’s so good for my body.

Breakfast

First, a cup of coffee.

coffee

And some eggs!

eggs and grits

As I scrambled up my eggs this morning, I stirred in some leftover grits and shredded cheese and loved the creamy, pillowy texture the grits gave to the eggs.

eggs grits avocado

A delicious way to start the day.

Question of the Morning

  • Pet owners: Does your pet do anything that strikes you as oddly human?

Ryan and I always laugh at Sadie’s dramatic sighs. She also hugs like a human and puts her two paws on our shoulders.

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

My dog Gracie is a little maltipoo and not only does she do the overly dramatic sigh like Sadie, but she also burps like a human!! It never fails, after she eats she comes and jumps up on the couch or bed, settles into her spot, and lets out the loudest burp I have ever heard. I swear it is louder than a mans burp! I crack up every time!

I always say that my dog is part human…at least he thinks he is! He does the same type of thing in the mornings. Makes me feel guilty for going to work. He lays on the couch with this head on the pillow, just like a person, and he thinks he needs to lay in the middle of the bed with us at night. He just has SUCH a personality, it’s so funny, I love it!

My dog Daphne does the rediculous sigh as well! Also, when she is mad at me, for instance if I do not give her any of my food or if I yelled at her for digging in the trash or something, she completely ignores me. Ill try to make eye contact with her and talk to her or something, and she just gives me the cold shoulder and avoids any and all eye contact. Such a drama queen!

Tortuga is definitely part human! One time our cat jumped up on the kitchen table and she lept up from the couch, ran over to the table and started barking at him in way that definitely conveyed “HEY!!!! Get down from there! That’s not *allowed*!!!” Then looked at us like “you guys, I told him that’s not allowed. Can I get a treat?” She cracks us up!

My yorkie Zoe, does the same thing! Her reactions and sigh’s are so human; when its time for bed (she either sleeps with my mom of myself) she burrows and walks around in a circle on the bed, plops down and heaves a loud sigh. She’s seriously too cute; reading about Sadie reminds me so much of Zoe and her mannerisms 🙂

I think our pets spend so much time with us that just learn some of our behaviours. Lillly does big sighs when she wants to play but we want to chill out. Her morning routine is also amusing but my poor husband would never leave the house if Lilly varked at him the whole time. She get a special treat whenever I leave the house which is her favorite so once he leaves she knows I’m leaving shortly after and she starts to get excited that we are leaving knowing she gets the yummy treat. I’ve never had a dog who is so happy to see me put on my coat. lol. But I get the sighs along with a little temper tamtrum on the days I do work from home and she suddenly realized I’m not giving her a treat. She actually goes upstairs where I can hear her stomping around until she finally decides to lay down and take a nap. It’s hilarious. And I totally need to video her reaction the the Biran Urlacher Xfinity commerial that has been on. There is a dog late in the commercial and she knows that so as soon as she hears Brian start talking in the commercial she starts talking/barking at the TV, it looks like she doesn’t like Brian (and maybe she doesn’tt) but it’s probably just her getting excited about the dog at the end. It cracks me up everytime.

My chocolate labs do a lot of things that are oddly human. My older dog, Angel, also sighs and she gives hugs. My younger dog, Reagan, will drag a blanket or pillow around so she has somewhere to rest her head when she sleeps. She is also half asleep in the morning. My chocolate lab (also named Sadie!) does that exaggerated sigh too! When she realizes she’s not going to come up on the bed and snuggle, she literally flings herself onto her place and does a big sigh. What a drama queen. She also like to put her paws on your shoulder when she’s sitting with you and I’ve even caught her sitting upright on her butt like a human! It’s so weird so see her do that haha.

I feel the same way about yoga- I need it, but the classes at my gym aren’t great and aren’t at good times for me! I ordered the Shiva Rae- Daily Energy Flow Yoga DVD from Amazon and it totally kicks my butt! There are a bunch of pre-set yoga practices, but then also a “yoga matrix” where you can pick and choose from over 10 different mini-sets and put them together to focus on what you want. I’m obsessed- totally worth it for $15!

My year old Golden Retriever, Tucker, follows me around the kitchen when I’m cleaning or cooking. He is a big feet layer, and therefore once I stop for a second he immediately lays on my feet. The human-like action arrives when I get up, because Tucker sighs like he is annoyed that I keep moving! It is quite funny!

When I am eating something that my dog likes (and of course sharing with him), if I don’t feed him at a rate that he feels is acceptable, he taps me on the leg with his paw when we are on the couch together or shuffles from foot to foot while sighing if he is on the floor. Too precious.

Check out http://www.yogadownload.com for free 20-minute yoga workouts with videos. I have downloaded 4 different classes with videos and they are great to do at home. If you have extra time, combine 2 or 3 of them for a longer workout. My 10-year old dog is a heeler/chow cross and she “talks”…it is actually more like a “mooooo” sound LOL. Each night around 7 pm she will stare us down and start to cry/moan to be invited up onto the couch with us. So I then spread out her couch cover and ask her to come up to her corner spot, which is the only place she will lay. She doesn’t get on any other furniture and won’t come up unless asked to!

I just started doing yoga in the last few months or so and besides seeing immediate results in my flexibility (which was beyond horrible when I started) I really keep with it because of how calm my mind and energized my body feels after each class.
