Half Speed

February 27, 2013 by Julie 143 Comments

Oh hey! Fancy seeing you here!

I hope your Wednesday is off to a promising start.

Just in case you’re moving a little slow this morning, I thought you might find comfort in the fact that you are not alone.

photo (1)

Someone else is moving at half-speed this morning.

I really need to take a video of my mornings with Sadie. She’s ridiculous.

First, Sadie barks at the back door to try to convince Ryan to play hooky and stay home from work. She is never successful and once she hears the garage door close, she gives up and returns to the kitchen looking defeated.

I then give her a kiss and a treat and she stands there watching me until I head into my office. She walks behind me, but doesn’t follow me into my office. She just stands in the doorway, looks at me like I’m a huge disappointment and gives a dramatic sigh before turning around to lay on the bed on the guest room. Her exaggerated sigh is way too amusing because it just sounds so human.

Workout

Today’s workout was another power circuit workout from Tina’s Best Body Boot Camp. When I was done, I took some time to stretch and went through a bunch of my favorite hip stretches.

As I was chillin’ in pigeon pose, I started to think about yoga. It has been a while since I’ve taken a yoga class and I think my body is beginning to crave it again. I don’t love the yoga classes that my gym offers (I miss the yoga classes at the Downtown Orlando YMCA!) and classes at local studios are rather expensive, but I think I may shop around for a discount package and try to integrate it into my routine again once BBBC is over. I miss it and know it’s so good for my body.

Breakfast

First, a cup of coffee.

coffee

And some eggs!

eggs and grits

As I scrambled up my eggs this morning, I stirred in some leftover grits and shredded cheese and loved the creamy, pillowy texture the grits gave to the eggs.

eggs grits avocado

A delicious way to start the day.

Question of the Morning

  • Pet owners: Does your pet do anything that strikes you as oddly human?

Ryan and I always laugh at Sadie’s dramatic sighs. She also hugs like a human and puts her two paws on our shoulders.

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Oh God, my cat is 99% human. When he thinks it’s time for me to wake up in morning (usually in the middle of the night), he will sit on my pillow and light tap my face. When I don’t wake up, he gets a little bit more aggresive with his taps. And when he’s really frustrated, he’ll dunk his paw in his water bowl and come back and splash my face!

My cat sleeps on my pillow with me at night and wakes me up in the morning if I’m not up around 7. When I say she sleeps on my pillow I mean she climbs up from the end of the bed (under the covers) and comes and lays with her head on the pillow and her body under the covers. When she wants me to wake up, she taps me a few times with her paw, sits on my face, licks my cheek, walks around my head, and taps me again with her paws until I wake up. I kind of like it 🙂

Our pug dog loves fat free, plain Greek yogurt! I dropped a dollop on the floor one time by accident and she ate it like it was a treat. I’m not sure if that’s an “oddly human” trait, though, becuase I think most humans can only eat fat free, plan Greek yogurt with a topping of some kind to cut the tartness!

I got a Groupon for yoga in my city – it was a newer yoga studio that just opened up and was looking for new clients. I got 10 sessions for $29! So cheap, and nothing beats the stretch of a yoga session. Good luck on your hunt for a good deal!

I have a 6lb cat that thinks she’s a dog, it’s the most ridiculous thing. When we eat dinner every night at the table she sits on the back of the couch and waits until we’re almost to the last bite and she’ll let out a loud meow so we don’t forget to give her a bite. She will literally follow your every move throughout the house. It’s hilarious.

I know what you’re talking about! I think an exasperated, human-sounding sigh from a medium-sized or large dog is hilarious 🙂

My husband and I CRACK UP every night because our dog, who is only 13 lbs, sleeps with us, doesn’t shed, so she is already human in that regard. But every evening she gets pet and goes to the end of the bed to stretch out. If you were to call her and nudge her with your toes under the covers, she lets out an annoyed growl and relents by coming up to your chest for more snuggles. It never fails to make us laugh because she is SO obviously annoyed with us for disturbing her at the foot of the bed.

I have two dogs that love each other so much that they actually act like a couple in love! My female doesn’t go anywhere without her “man” and he kisses her every hour or so just to let her know she is “his”. It is the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen! We don’t know what they would do without each other. They even have to be side by side on our walks or they get very upset and start looking for one another…too cute!

I’ve also been dealing with the itch to do yoga more frequently. I went to a class Sunday morning for the first time in at least two years and am really glad I went. Since I have never done yoga frequently I signed up for an eight-week beginner series the studio was offering for a great price!

Pigeon pose is amazeballs! I’ve recently discovered how much I love that one. I’ve also heard yoga is really fantastic for runners since their muscles get so tight.

Like many of your readers, I adore Sadie. I’ve wanted a vizsla since I started reading 🙂

My dog opens out presents for us on Christmas. He knows the best places to tear the wrapping paper, and he knows to put it on the floor after he rips it off the box. We record him going nuts while he does this every year. One of my favorite parts of Christmas, for sure.

Every night when my son Jackson gets out of the shower he sits in the floor or on the couch and leans down so our dog Bailey can lick the water from his hair. It is so funny. I think she waits on him so she can do this.

My dog Jingo THINKS she is a human. She does the loud exaggerated sigh as well! Also she has to have a pillow while laying down, and uses her paws as ‘hands’ to hold things all the time. Dogs are the best and the absolute funnest member of the family 🙂

My cat Piper is always getting into stuff she shouldn’t. When I go to retrieve her from whatever she’s wrongly in/on/doing, she huffs at me just like a disgruntled child! It’s so funny, I know she’s just like “But Mooooom!”

I have enjoyed getting acquainted with your blog and I love your dog. My puppy, Roo, sighs all the time when he wants to make it known to my husband and I that he is bored. Also, every morning his enthusiasm and excitement is too much for him and he goes full furry on our bed when our alarm goes off. He is a maniac until we let him out! Love me some puppy love.

Sadie’s face looks so defeated (and adorable). We went to a beach this weekend where dogs are allowed and it was crazy to see tons of them running around and playing in the waves. There was a stinker dog though – Bouncer the Jack Russell Terrier – and he did whatever he pleased (because his owner let him) and actually peed on someone’s bag while the owner watched! Some people are not meant to have animals.

Oh I know the ‘sigh’ all too well! My gsp Lucy does the same exact thing…when she is bored or tryin to get your attention in a oh-so-subtle way “) Also, she will sit on the couch like a person and be eye to eye with you…it’s so funny—like you should start up a conversation or something! The other thing she does is sleeps in our bed with her head on the pillow…just like a person. She’s such a ham bone but she’s one great ham bone!! “)

Our dog plays hide and seek with her “hiding bone.”. We call it that because it is the only one she will do it with. We hide it while she sits in another room anxiously awaiting the ” free dog” command which allows her to start seeking. When she finds it, she will pace around with it for a good five minutes looking for the perfect place. She will go up and downstairs countless times with the bone. Just when she thinks we have lost interest, she hides it. She follows me everywhere I go until I find it and we start over. I would never have believed a dog would do this if I had not witnessed it with my own eyes. Dogs are so much smarter than they get credit for. Don’t know what we would so without her.

My dog is such a diva. The other day, we were waiting for my mom to come home from work, when a car looking very similar to my mom’s car pulled up. The person driving stepped out and walked to one of the other houses in our street. Floor (my dog) let out such a dramatic breath! Unbelieveable! If she were human, I’m 100 percent sure she would have started screaming ‘I want my mom!!!!!’

Well sadly, my last lab died this year 🙁 She was 14. Lost the other two 3 years ago. Right now, I am keeping my grandmother’s 4 year old yorkie, and i swear he’s got to be a puppy because he acts just like one. His energy is off the wall. But i have to put him in the cage when i leave and he hates so he will roll on his back and freeze and smile at me….its kinda creepy.

Try looking on Groupon or Living Social for discounted rates! I started going to hot yoga for the first time because I found a 7 sessions for $29 deal. The classes were great and I fell in love with the studio! You never know what you can find on those sites.

Not sure if you’ve tried Power Yoga Ocala, but I think you might enjoy it. I personally love it there. Its 90 degrees, hot yoga and its power – so fast and enjoyable. I find it to be helpful for someone who crossfits 5 days a week. I really like the owner, Jenn too!
