Hooray for Almond Milk

August 17, 2013 by Julie 85 Comments

Hooray for coffee shops that have almond milk!

Chelsea Coffee Company Ocala

I’ve never been a huge milk lover (yogurt, cheese and ice cream are a completely different story), but I’ve been an almond milk fan from my very first sip. I think it tastes better than regular milk and I am always thrilled when coffee shops have it available.

After the gym this morning, Ryan and I swung by Chelsea Coffee Company, a local coffee shop that we first visited a little less than a year ago. Since our last visit, they started offering almond milk, which made me so happy!

I ordered an almond milk cappuccino with a pump of white chocolate syrup and loved it!

I also bought one of their honey walnut date bars which was gooey and delicious.

Two thumbs way up for Chelsea Coffee Company!

Leg Workout

Backing up a bit to today’s workout…

Right after we woke up, I ate a Luna bar before Ryan and I drove to the gym around 8 a.m.

My time at the gym began with a 20-minute cardio warm up before I headed into the weight room to complete a leg workout that looked like this:

Leg Workout

It was fast and efficient.

Following our time at the gym, we hit up the coffee shop before driving to the farmer’s market to browse around.

We left with some local produce and I ate a fresh peach in the car on the way home that was incredibly juicy!

Now it’s time to entertain Sadie and shower before we head over to a friend’s house for some fun.

Catch ya later!

Question of the Morning

  • Are you a milk lover? What is your favorite kind of milk?

I’m an almond milk lover through and through. These days my favorite kind of almond milk is unsweetened vanilla. Mmm!

I love going to farmer’s markets in the morning. It’s the best way to start the day! There’s something about browsing things which are made locally! Do you drink sweetened almond milk or unsweetened almond milk? I can only drink skim milk because I grew up on it and hate the “filmy” taste of regular milk. What’s your favorite brand of almond milk?

That coffee looks delicious! What brand of almond milk do you usually drink? I’ve tried a few unsweetened flavors and haven’t had the best experience. Awesome leg workout! I’ll be giving that a try today when I go to the gym to workout a sweat. Thanks Julie!

I loooove unsweetened vanilla almond milk. I’ve also recently tried Flax milk (when my store was out of almond milk), and I loved it! Now I tend to alternate between almond and flax milk each week.

Flax milk is definitely creamier than the almond milk 🙂 I really like it! Sometimes I take some unsweetened flax milk and add a little stevia and vanilla for a little something sweet.

I’ve never tried almond milk before {gasp!} but have definitely wanted to. I’m not a huge milk fan either- I eat it with cereal but that’s about it. The coffee you got with the white chocolate syrup sounds great! That’s similar to what I get at Starbucks so next time I’ll see if they have almond milk!

I am not a milk lover, at all. However, I can eat it in cereal or in my oats. I try to use it that way because it gives me the protein. If I was to just drink it, though, it has to be vanilla almond milk!

It has a better taste than soy in my opinion. I’ll have to keep checking back with it mom and pop coffee shop here in Fort Walton Beach and see if they get it.

Despise milk. Always have, always will. BUT, I love almond milk! I usually buy unsweetened vanilla, either the Whole Foods brand or Almond Breeze, but have recently been loving the unsweetened coconut almond milk combo by Almond Breeze- makes for some great tropical-y shakes (or mounds bar shake- one of my faves!) but definitely has a distinct coconut flavor so the unsweetened vanilla is more versatile for everyday.

I like skim milk for somethings and almond milk for others. Almond milk always goes in my coffee, cereal, and smoothies. When you include your workouts could you give a brief description of what each exercise is? I have people I send your workouts to but they are new to exercising and don’t know what the terminology means.

Almond milk lover here. I drink Blue Diamond’s Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Breeze. I love that it’s only 30 calories a cup…by far the lowest calorie milk substitute. Strangely though, I don’t like the way almond milk tasted in coffee. Instead I usually get my latte’s with half non-fat milk, half-soy and get an extra shot of espresso so that it lessens the milk ratio even more.

I actually really enjoy drinking milk so I was surprised when I realized the majority of people can’t drink milk straight. They have to have either add-ins like cereal, coffee (haha) or something else. My sister and I were odd growing up drinking a glass of milk with our dinner regardless of what it was so that habit still lasts today when I need something to satisfy a craving.

    That bar looks delicious!

Almond milk all the way! I never drank milk and would leave any remainder at the end of my cereal bowl to pour down the sink when I was kid. Then I went dairy free and lived off of soy milk for about 6 months until we finally got almond milk in this country. In the Happy Pear coffee shop/restaurant I work in we have soy, coconut (not like from a can though!), almond, hazelnut and oat milks unsweetened and organic varieties of each on offer! Hazelnut is almost as amazing as almond!

I don’t like milk, but love frozen yogurt, ice cream, cheese, etc. So I get my old lady calcium! 😉 I tried almond milk and while I like it in my coffee, I don’t like it alone. I can drink chocolate milk, but I don’t love it either. I tried these Got Milk straws that flavor your milk chocolate, vanilla or strawberry hoping that would help me drink some but, but sadly, it didn’t work. My daughter loves them though.

I actually do love milk but I love almond, soy, and rice milk just as much!!! It’s just so fun to have a variety of tastes, you know? One thing that peeves me though….is when coffee shops actually charge 60 cents or more JUST for soy, especially if I need to avoid dairy for important reasons.

I’m vegetarian, on the road to veganism. Milk is very difficult for your body to digest after a workout, it’s not the golden recovery drink everyone thinks it is. Milk has puss, antibiotics, and all kinds of nasty stuff! I either drink soy or almond milk. Substitutes great in recipes, smoothies and cereal!

Coffee shops offering almond milk? It’ll be a long (!) time until this happens over here – if at all, that is. With a mere two brands available – none of which is unsweetened – almond milk is still an exotic foods many people have never heard of. My favourite is a [full-fat] brand of hazelnut milk that tastes like liquid Nutella. What’s not to like ;about that ;)?
