Things I’m Loving Friday #177

March 17, 2017 by Julie 40 Comments

Hello and Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I hope you’re having a great Friday and will have the chance to enjoy a green treat or some kind of traditional Irish dish before the day is over! Ryan has actually been out of town for the past two days so we are all looking forward to having him back home tonight and will be eating a crock pot version of corned beef and cabbage. Yum!

Though today’s post isn’t exactly full of festive St. Patrick’s Day flare, hopefully it will make you smile a little bit since that’s always the goal of my weekly Things I’m Loving Friday post. Please share a little bit about something you’re loving this week with me in the comments section!

Have a great St. Patrick’s Day and a wonderful weekend, my friends!

Things I’m Loving Friday

  • Golden Milk Lattes

Golden Milk Latte Microwavable

Golden milk lattes are popping up all over the internet these days and a couple of weeks ago, I hopped on the bandwagon and made one at home. I haven’t looked back since and love this creamy treat that’s actually quite good for you! Also known as turmeric tea, golden milk lattes are known for their anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties and I think it’s one heck of a delicious way to unwind at the end of a long day. I prefer to make my golden milk lattes after dinner but will also make them in the afternoon, particularly if it’s freezing outside and I want to sip on something hot and creamy to help me warm up!

There are a bazillion golden milk latte recipes out there but here’s a brief rundown of my go-to version, inspired by The Wellness Mama’s recipe:

Add 1/2 teaspoon turmeric + 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon + small pinch powdered ginger + small pinch of cayenne + small pinch pepper to a steaming hot mug of almond milk (approximately 1 cup) sweetened with 2 drops of liquid vanilla stevia. (The pepper may seem like a weird addition, but it increases absorption.) Use a milk frother to blend everything together (I love my AeroLatte milk frother) and enjoy! If you don’t have a milk frother, you can also whisk everything together, but I recommend adding the spices to the warmed almond milk on the stove top so they combine a little easier!

  • False Alarm (Hook N Sling Remix) – Matoma & Becky Hill

False Alarm Matoma

Every once in a while I’ll hear a song on the radio and immediately fall in love during the very first listen. It doesn’t happen often but it happened recently when Ryan had this song jamming in his car. (To get a good feel for the song, skip the intro and begin listening at 0:43.) I LOVE it so much (Becky Hill’s voice is so gorgeous) and quickly dubbed it my new favorite workout song. I find the Hook N Sling Remix version of False Alarm so motivating at the gym – both in the weight room or on the treadmill. It makes me so darn happy every time I hear it and is so energizing!

  • Chase’s Bedhead

Chase Bed Head 19 mos

Chase almost always wakes up with some serious bedhead and it never fails to crack me up! His bedhead is at its best when we put him to sleep at night with slightly damp hair after his bath and he wakes up looking like Albert Einstein. I love his fluffy blonde locks, even when they are a little crazy!

  • Wednesday Whiteboard Workout

Copy of CORE WORKOUT

Sometimes I think I’m the only one who LOVES whiteboard workouts at Burn Boot Camp! I think they are so fun and love moving through workouts at my own pace. Perhaps I like them so much because they remind me the most of the workouts I create for myself but I don’t have to put the thought into it? Wednesday’s whiteboard workout was a killer and I didn’t finish everything in the allotted 25 minutes but made sure to snap a pic of the workout to use for a solo workout in the future.

Oh my gosh his bedhead, I love! I need to try the golden milk latte. Tumeric is so good for your body but the only time I tried drinking it was AWFUL! Apple cider vinegar, tumeric, lemon juice and hot water. NO thank you. Your recipe looks much better!

Hey is a golden milk latte meant to have coffee in it to make it a latte? Or just spices with milk

    Thanks

I still need to try the Turmeric milk! Haven’t hopped on that one yet surprisingly. I have been loving Turmeric this Winter though. This week I’m loving this Organic Drinking Chocolate I found it’s so rich and dark and makes the most amazing hot chocolate with cashew milk!

Looks like you guys had a wonderful week! Chase’s bed head… friggin’ cutest little ever. Swoon.

Super secret tip on your Golden Milk Lattes… I buy a powdered Golden Milk (called “Golden Milk” by the brand gaia… crafty) at Sprouts and it includes the majority of the ingredients already combined together. Then, just add a bit of steamed/heated almond milk and you’re set! (I’m all about the simplicity, ha!)

    Have a wonderful weekend!

I wish I could like golden milk lattes more, because they are so good for the immune system. I try to drink them when I feel like I’m getting sick, and it works!

Something that’s making me smile today is the fact that I’m going to see two of my best friends during the weekend. One of them I haven’t seen in months, and the other one I haven’t seen in 3 years!! It is going to be a great weekend!

The curative properties of turmeric milk have been used in Indian recipes and Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years, so I wouldn’t necessarily call it a bandwagon.

“Golden milk lattes” seem to be gaining popularity in the health/wellness scene in the U.S. right now which is what I meant by “hopping on the bandwagon.”

I’ve heard of adding turmeric to warm milk to make a latte but I didn’t know they had a name! I will have to try that recipe.

I’ve been making matcha green tea lattes lately which are SO good. Same concept–just froth in the matcha green tea powder. So simple and a great way to get in some extra antioxidants!
