Muesli Morning

March 9, 2012 by Julie 63 Comments

Would you like a little glimpse into the shenanigans that occur at our house on a nightly basis?

As I was putting on my gym shoes to get ready to head out for an evening walk with Ryan and Sadie yesterday, I walked into the room where I heard Ryan and Sadie playing.

Ryan looked up at me from the floor, his eyes beaming, saying he wanted to show me his latest game with Sadie where he had her running under a “bridge.”

A bridge?

Bridge = Ryan’s legs

They’re quite the duo.

I promise she doesn’t have rabies. Smile

Workout

This morning I was pretty pumped to try a new workout. The workout assigned for today through the boot camp program I’m following was a circuit workout that included a lot of core and plyometric movements.

I wrote the circuit down to take with me to the gym and didn’t realize I was supposed to do it three times through. When I finished the circuit in 15 minutes, I had a feeling something was up and used my phone to look up the workout again.

My mistake!

I busted out the remaining two sets and they kicked my butt, but I loved the workout! It was definitely my favorite boot camp workout so far. The circuit was challenging, fast-paced and didn’t leave any room for boredom.

Plus I got to bear crawl all over the gym looking like a toolbag.

Breakfast

Breakfast this morning was another batch of overnight oats!

museli overnight oats 027

Like yesterday’s granola overnight oats, this batch was a little special, too!

I used Muesli Fusion Classic Swiss muesli as the base rather than plain oats and absolutely loved it.

museli overnight oats 036

The company sent me a few bags of their all-natural, organic muesli yesterday and I couldn’t wait to use it for breakfast this morning.

Just in case you’re in the dark about muesli, according to Muesli Fusion, it is a cereal made with a base of oats and whole grains mixed with variety of ingredients including nuts, seeds, dried fruits and sweets. Muesli can be consumed in many different ways. It can be soaked in milk, water, or juice and eaten cold or it can be cooked in boiling water or milk and eaten like traditional oatmeal.

I combined the muesli with a cup of strawberry banana Greek yogurt, chia seeds and milk. This morning I added two chopped dates on top and dug in!

Oatmeal that incorporates a ton of fun, natural ingredients is always a blast to eat. I loved the inclusion of raisins, cranberries and almonds in the muesli and have a feeling this breakfast is going to have some serious staying power.

Time to answer some emails before heading out to the office of one of my local freelance clients. It’s kind of funny to work remotely for certain magazines and businesses and have no idea what the their office environments are like! Should be fun to see!

I love using muesli for overnight oats. My favorite brand is Bob’s Red Mill, which has a great mix of ingredients. I think there may even be some sunflower seeds in the mix (I think??) which gives it a nice crunch!

Hey Julie! I’m doing the bootcamp, too. On one of the few occurrences that I’ve blogged (in the middle of midterms but spring break is next week so woo!), I mentioned that you were the reason I signed up for it in the first place! I did your 50 min (15,30,50) treadmill workout on T/Th and loved it! Thanks for kicking my butt! And also… I’ve never done Turkish Get Ups before. What weight do you use? I’ve watched the videos a 1000 times and decide because they’re either 25+ lbs… Or humans.

Hah.. I look like a tool bag each and every time I go to the gym. I’m convinced it is essential for a good workout 😉 The other day while going jump squats one of the dudes that we are friendly with came over to tell us that he was struggling to finish the last few reps of cable cross-overs when he saw our ponytails bouncing up and down. “If you girls can jump around like that I can do 2 more reps!” It made me smile 🙂

I never really knew what Meusli was, but the past 5 months I have been abroad, and apparently it is a very big thing in Australia and the UK. To me it seems like a combination of cereal, oats, granola, dried fruit, and nuts. It seems like it would be an easy thing to make a big batch of to have ready for quick breakfasts in the morning! 🙂

My dog Lucy likes to go “under the bridge” to comfort herself. I’ll be sitting on the couch and she will put her head under my knee as the signal to let her through. Going “under the bridge” is always interesting and funny if I’m laying on the ground with my knees propped up. Could she be part cat? Although she seems to be soothing herself, this little extra attention always seems to comfort me too.
