My New Voice

June 13, 2011 by Julie 71 Comments

For those of you who slack on blog reading over the weekend like I do, it’s time to get caught up:

  • I almost stole a sea turtle
  • Ryan almost got castrated

Yep, I think that’s all you missed.

Workout

Today’s workout began as all Monday morning workouts do around here: With a BodyPump class!

Prior to the class, I completed 20 minutes of cardio on the treadmill beside Ryan (15 min. incline walking, 5 min. jogging) and then felt the burn in my muscles for a good 45 minutes. I think my favorite tracks in BodyPump are the bicep and shoulder tracks. They’re always killer… in a good way!

Breakfast

After the gym, I took Sadie on a walk while chatting with my friend Merri on the phone. I miss our morning walks! She’s off in New York now like a real grown up and I think there’s a serious void in Sadie’s heart now that she’s gone. Sadie would whimper and pee herself every time she saw Merri! Her move has been hard on our whole family.

When my virtual walk with Merri and real-life walk with Sadie was complete, it was time for breakfast!

One meal I didn’t want for breakfast was a cheese and jam sandwich. Shocking, I know! After eating that particular meal for four meals in the past two days, I’m a little jammed out. Maybe for lunch today? Winking smile

At the gym this morning, I watched the weather forecast on the news, which said, in big bold words, “A Hot One.” Today’s temperatures are supposed to reach 95 degrees, so I figured I’d get a jump start on beating the heat with a cold smoothie.

In the mix:

  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 1 1/2 tbsp. cocoa powder
  • 1 1/4 c. almond milk
  • 1 tbsp. almond butter
  • 1 pinch xanthan gum
  • 1 handful fresh spinach

So refreshing!

My New Voice

Ryan and I are pretty good road trip buddies. Sure, I pass out from time to time due to my severe highway hypnosis, but when I’m awake we have a great time playing all sorts of car games like the game of threes, 20 questions and more. Yesterday, on our road trip home from Jekyll Island, we posed many different questions to each other, with one being, “If you could have any person’s singing voice, whose voice would you want?”

I suggested Michael Bublé  as the voice Ryan should choose, and he quickly agreed. That man has the voice of a crystal-clear angel and sang the song we chose as our first dance song at our wedding. An easy pick!

Selecting the woman’s voice I would want was a little harder. There are so many amazingly talented women singers out there from Celine Dion to Mariah Carey to Christina Aguilera.

But then I remembered my girl.

Miss Whitney Houston!

I’ll take her voice, puh-lease. And all of her amazing songs, too. There’s no topping “I’m Every Woman” and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” I remember when my grandparents gave me my first boom box for Christmas. I had the Bodyguard soundtrack and would listen to Whitney non-stop. She’s so incredible and her voice is clear, emotional, powerful and moving. I’ll take it!

Question of the Day

If you could have one singer’s voice, whose voice would you most like to have? Which male singer do you think has the best voice these days?

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Julie, it’s been forever since I’ve commented here!

Michael Buble hands down for a male voice!

For a woman, I have three favorites for very different reasons: Christina Aguilera , Whitney Houston, and Norah Jones. I don’t know who I like better!!!!

I think I’d have to go with either Carrie Underwood or Mariah Carey — Carrie because she’s just so naturally talented and Mariah because, well, she’s Mariah!

For my boyfriend, it would be a toss-up between Josh Turner (HOLY voice of deepness and all that is good about country music) or… (don’t laugh!) Frank Sinatra. 😉

Oh! I would pick Kristen Chenowith – from the original Wicked and Glee! She has such a cute talking voice and then can belt out notes like nobodies business! Carrie Underwood would be a good one too!

I would have to pick Lea Michele from Glee! I love Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey and all the other great vocalists out there, but Lea Michele’s voice is amazing! There is just so much power behind it!! Can you tell I missing Glee and want it to come back ASAP ;). Your trip looked like a blast! I have never heard of Jekyll Island… I’ll definitely have to check it out!

I’m glad the blog is back up because I wanted to comment on this ALL MORNING.

If I had a celebrity voice I would choose Maja Ivarsson, she’s the lead singer of The Sounds, a Swedish indie rock band. She has such an unusal voice but whenever I hear their songs it makes me want to get up and dance or run …

You should give them a listen!

Not an original answer, but I’ll also go with Adele. Just so powerful — she commands the spotlight the minute she opens her lovely mouth.

Second choice is Natalie Maines of The Dixie Chicks. Her voice is incredibly strong and true — even live on stage, she can just belt it out. I am not a country music fan, but I LOVE the Chicks!

Totally agree about Michael Buble–I could listen to him all day every day.
I would love to have Martina McBride’s voice. She was a favorite growing up and she still sings so beautifully.

I’ve been surfing online more than three hours lately, but I never discovered any interesting article like yours. It’s pretty price sufficient for me.
In my view, if all web owners and bloggers made good content material as you probably
did, the web can be much more helpful than
    ever before.
