After an incredible 4th of July and a whirlwind beach weekend, this morning it was back to reality!
Workout
Our alarm went off at 5 a.m. and Ryan and I quickly changed into our workout gear and drove to the gym. I started my workout with 20 minutes on the elliptical and used every single minute to wake myself up before it was time to kick my booty in the functional training area of our gym.
I really worked up a sweat this morning by completing the following workout:
Plus four rounds of the following:
- 20 sec. mountain climbers
- 10 sec. rest
- 20 sec. box jumps
- 10 sec. rest
- 20 sec. jumping jacks
- 10 sec. rest
- 20 sec. speed skaters
- 10 sec rest
Breakfast
By the time we arrived home, I was ready for breakfast.
Time for the old standby!
I made myself an egg sandwich on a toasted whole wheat English muffin with jelly, cheese and two fried eggs.
For some reason, my egg sandwich didn’t hold me over for nearly as long as it usually does and within 90 minutes, I was back in the kitchen, ready for more food.
I heated up some frozen blueberries in the microwave and topped them with about two tablespoons of crunchy almond butter – a snack I first saw on Tina’s blog.
Much better!
I also had two Tootsie Rolls and a small box of Red Hots not long after I was done with my blueberry snack. When candy is in the house, it calls to me!
I received my latest candy stash over the weekend from my friend Kristen who sent it to me in an adorable container that she used to ask me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding next year!
She sent the candy to me because it reminded her of the roller rink parties we used to go when we were younger. We’d hang out at the snack bar and eat candy when we wanted a break from skating! Does any one else remember couple’s skate? I’m pretty sure I only got asked to skate with a boy one time and all I thought about was how sweaty my hands were as we skated around the roller rink. Oh, memories!
Question of the Afternoon
- Did you ever go to the roller rink when you were younger?
Our elementary school would host roller rink parties that were a lot of fun. Then, when I was in middle school, people started going to Teen Night at Tunnels of Fun. I never went to Teen Night at Tunnels of Fun (or was it Discovery Zone?) and now that I’m older it sounds like a claustrophobic nightmare.
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom says
Discovery Zone was my jam! We used to hang out at the roller rink on Friday nights…and not skate. We would flirt with all the boys 😉
Emily says
We were ALL about the roller skating on Friday nights! My “first boyfriend” (5th grade?!) and I are still friends, and he just brought up couples skate recently — he told me I skated too fast for him and dragged him around! Haha, oh the memories 🙂
Caitie @ twentytwofit says
oh my gosh…the roller rink. Both loved and hated. It was the exciting spot to go with girlfriends and flirt back and forth with the boys BUT I was always guaranteed at least one major wipeout. love her personal touch in the bridesmaid invitation. cute!
Hayley in Training says
The roller rink never got old when I was younger! It got pretty seedy after a while, though- and I recently went to Adult Skate at the only rink in town and got the same seedy vibe. ::nostalgic sigh:: Sometimes things just aren’t what they used to be!
Hayley in Training says
Re-reading this, I’m not sure why I called it the roller rink. It was totally called the Skating Rink. Is that a southern thing? Do some people say “roller” while others call it “skating”?
Beeb says
What a cute way to ask you to be a bridesmaid!
Carly @ Snack Therapy says
The roller rink! I loved that place. So many fun disco-balled parties took place there. Not to mention the ooey gooey nacho cheese they sold. Yum :).

YUM! I love Barney Almond Butter…and I have not seen Tina eat that snack, but that is one of my favorite things to eat as well!! Not just with blueberries though…I enjoy all sorts of fruit on the bottom with almond butter, peanut butter, or any other nut butter on top!! So many options 😉
Jeanie @ Breakfast for Dinner says
Roller skating was a middles school staple!! There was also a Domino’s Pizza across the street for added food options. This all equaled one happy Friday night!!!

Pretty soon you will be able to rival that movie, 27 Dresses, with all the weddings you are asked to be a bridesmaid in!
Sarah @ A Refining Adventure says
Looks like a good workout, will have to give it a try. I love the unique way Kristen asked you to be in her wedding. We totally went to the skating rink growing up. I remember it was the popular place to meet up and have birthdays from about 4th – 9th grade…so many silly memories!
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat says
Mmmm…love the idea of blueberries and almond butter. I’ll have try that out sometime!
I used to go roller skating a lot when I was younger. It was always so much fun, but it has been years since I’ve gone. I’d probably be awful now! 😉
Liz says
Ah the great roller rink memories. In middle school we went a lot on Friday nights becuase it was $1 to get in to skate all night. Sometimes I’ll hear a song they would always play and it takes me back 🙂
Rebecca Jo says
heck – we STILL go to the rink 🙂 its where I met my husband. We rent the skating rink to ourselves at least twice a year… the best time inviting only family & friends & the youth group from our church that we help lead… so much fun!
Ashley says
I remember those roller skating nights in elementary school! We went to a place called Roller Kingdom, and when they played the Chicken Dance I hid in the bathroom because I was terrified I’d do it wrong or fall down!
Britt @ Fit Fit Britt Britt says
I would go every Friday night!!! When I was younger it was THE place to be, but got kinda creepy as I got older, lol.
Keri says
We just took our 5 year old son to the skating rink for his first timea few weeks ago. It brought back so many memories. My husband kept skating beside me and holding my hand!! I don’t know how we use to do that because all I could focus on the other day was not falling on my face and dragging him down with me! It was sooo much run though!
Gillian says
I loved birthday parties at the roller rink! Lots of music and open space, and just hanging out. I’d probably still go if it was open!
Vanessa says
When I was younger we would go to the roller rink for birthday parties. The ice skating rink was the hang out – guess that’s because I’m from Boston where there’s more months in the year where it’s cold than warm! I learned to skate at a very young age and did it for fun. It’s still fun now but I use ice skating in the colder months as a form of exercise on the weekends!
