Summery Salad

October 14, 2011 by Julie 103 Comments

Who is ready for the weekend? Any exciting plans out there?

Ryan’s dad is coming in town tonight and then I’m off to Orlando tomorrow for a baby shower for my friend Carrie.

It will actually be the first baby shower I’ve ever been to and I’m not really sure what to expect. Are they like bridal showers where women just hang out and watch the mommy-to-be open gifts?

Regardless, I am excited!

Lunch

I was also awfully excited to dig into a delicious lunch.

Check out this salad!

crab salad2

The salad included a yummy mix of avocado, tomatoes, corn, crab meat, red onions and cilantro, all dressed up in honey mustard.

So summery! Fall, what?

After lunch, I took a brief breather to run to the Verizon store.

My phone has been experiencing major issues.

droid pink cover 001

(Of course Sadie is my background.)

Most recently, I couldn’t hear anyone speak through anything but the loud speaker, and their voices were crazy quiet. I’ve been communicating solely by text with most people other than Ryan who served as my “tester” when I needed someone to call to see if it was working again.

Apparently the “Advanced Task Killer” app does more harm than good on many phones, so the woman I worked with at Verizon delete that off my phone, installed an update and popped out the phone’s battery, blew on it, and popped it back in.

Any other Nintendo lovers remember when you’d just take a Nintendo game that was acting funky out of the console, blow on it, put it back in the console and then it was as good as new again?

If only everything could be so easily fixed!

P.S. The original title of this post was “Just Blow On It.” Smile

Question of the Afternoon

  • What was/is your favorite video game?

Mine was definitely Donkey Kong. Anyone else remember the mine cart level? So cool!

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Gosh i feel bad. lately i’ve been “commenting” to you with things that totally don’t pertain to your blog post, BUT I can’t help myself when I come across things I think you’d find exciting! You always talk about how much you love body pump. I was youtubin’ around and saw that they’re making DVD’s of the class to do it at home. Not sure of your thoughts with home workouts but I thought you’d appreciate it!

I used to love Nintendo! I actually found our original console in my parents’ basement the other day. Plugged it in and it still works! Those things are indestructible. I’ll admit–the fam and I spent an entire afternoon with the original Mario Brothers (!) and Duck Hunt!!!

I have the same phone and just had to get a replacement. Mine stopped getting any signal. Annoying. My insurance sent me a ‘refurbished’ one and it freezes all the time. I have advanced task killer but now I think I will delete it. Where did you find your cover? I can never find one that fits.

That salad looks really good; especially with the crab in there! Baby showers are a good time, I like them. I do however hate that diaper game—the one where you melt a chocolate bar in a diaper to mimic #2 so the player can guess what kind of chocolate bar it is? Gross.

I never played video games as a kid! My mom wouldn’t let me.. I barely even knew what they were for a long time haha. Eventually when computer games rolled around, I loved games like ‘Where in the World is Carmen San Diego’ and Nancy Drew though! Okay, now i feel like a nerd. 😉

ahh… the Nintendo fix. i fly a $202M aircraft and that is the number one way to fix things when they don’t work (although maintenance calls it “reseating”)– unfortunately, some of the newest loadmasters are so young they don’t know what that means!

As far as baby showers go, I know that you’ll often play little games- such as guessing whether the baby will be a boy or a girl, name games and such. very fun!

My weekend is consisting of homecoming game (which was tonight- we won!), theatre rehearsal (assistant director! whoo hoo!) and homecoming dance tomorrow with my first official boyfriend (I’m a senior). Pretty exciting. Your salad looks tastylicious and I hope your weekend is swell!

i was OBSESSED with Donkey Kong. I tried it on the N64 when that came out, but nothing beat the Super Nintendo version, in my opinion.

I have had some issues with my Droid since the last update too, I am beyond frustrated and am getting an iPhone as soon as my contract is up. Glad you got yours working better, though!

I used to always (and maybe still do) try to be like my older sister and i would mimic her blowing in the games to fix them but when i did it i would always spit in them and there maybe have been a time or two the game completely stopped working because of my technique- i’m going to blame it on the fact that I was about 5 at the time and all of my developmental skills weren’t fully developed yet. ha

I also vaguely remember her chasing me around the house with the duck hunt gun and my mom yelling in the background “it’s not nice to shoot your sister ”

    oh the nintendo memories <3

That’s what she said haha! I was a Super Mario girl! I think we may actually have our Nintendo in storage- talk about a blast from the past :). Baby showers are fun, especially if games are involved! In the last one I went too, they splattered diff chocs on diapers and we had to smell each diaper to guess which Choc each had. Haha now that I’ve typed it out, the game sounds pretty gross!

I’ve been to a few baby showers this year, and they are fun, but definitely an interesting experience for someone who doesn’t yet have kids. The games are fun but are hard for people who don’t have kids and don’t know the names of all these crazy baby gadgets! But the worst for me is all the stories shared. The two last baby showers I went to every mom shared her birthing story… talk about birth control! 😉

I loved Donkey Kong! Remember when Donkey would thump the ground and bananas would appear?? I wish that worked for me and cupcakes 🙂 The mine cart level made me so tense – all those gaps in the tracks – I spent a lot of time falling off the edge.
