The Lighthouse Café

February 18, 2013 by Julie 54 Comments

Since today’s breakfast was one you’ve seen a billion times on the blog (banana bread protein pancakes), I figured I’d recap yesterday’s morning meal instead since it was wonderful!

For the past three years, whenever I’ve mentioned that I’m taking a trip to Sanibel, a bunch of you comment telling me I must visit The Lighthouse Café for breakfast. Last year my family and I tried to go, but the wait was crazy-long, so we gave it another go this year since we were awake much earlier and figured we’d beat the crowds.

At 7:30 a.m., we had no trouble getting a table right away and immediately commented on the adorable lighthouse décor and cozy, comfortable atmosphere.

The Lighthouse Cafe

Ordering was rather easy since two of you said the whole wheat blueberry pancakes were phenomenal. I paired a giant pancake with two poached eggs, ham and buttered whole wheat toast.

It was such a delicious breakfast and the pancake recommendation was a great one. It tasted slightly nutty and the little baby blueberries added the perfect punch of sweetness.

We spent the rest of the morning walking on the beach before saying our goodbyes and heading home. Time in Sanibel always passes too quickly!

Workout

It was a chilly ride to the gym this morning!

ocala weather

Twenty nine degrees in Ocala! While I know that’s child’s play for many of you out there, for the Florida folks, 29 degrees is intense!

Luckily it didn’t take too long to get warm once my workout began thanks to Tina’s Best Body Boot Camp. Today kicked off the first week of Phase Four, the final phase of the boot camp program. It was an awesome workout that paired strength moves with 20 seconds of high knees or pulse squats with a 180-degree jump.

By far the hardest move of the workout for me was the crocodile walk. It didn’t look too intense in the video (probably because Lindsay is a champ), but oh my gosh, it was challenging.

Not a bad way to kick off the week!

Mmmm, those pancakes look delicious! One of my favorite vacations ever was two weeks in a condo in Sanibel. Since then, I’ve been back and gone through the nature reserve with my grandparents, but haven’t gotten to do much more exploring.

I would LOVE to go to a blogging conference sometime. I’d feel like a bit of a poser with my measly 200 followers, but I’m sure I would learn a TON of important information!

Agreed, those pancakes look outstanding! 29 in Florida is cold. I pity the vacationers who are down there his week hoping for a break from the Winter ice and snow and still have mornings below freezing! It’s seemed like a really, really wacky Winter though. Very odd temps all over the place!

Yay for blogger retreats. I was so happy to hear that the HLS will be in the Midwest this year. I am hoping that I can go!

I have wanted to go to blogger conferences for years, but have not yet had the opportunity! Both sound so fun to me, just gotta start saving some $$ 😉 Are you attending either blend or HLS this year?

Your breakfast looks great! Usually the cozy little local places always have the best food. I have never made poached eggs at home, but I love to order them when I eat out. I am adding that to my list of foods to make.

I live in South Carolina and feel the same way about the weather. I am always reading about people who run in such cold weather on blogs. When it is super cold here, well cold for South Carolina I am like wow this is nothing compared to them. I just can’t help it, down here we aren’t use to it always being so cold. I have to say though, 29 is coldanywhere!
