Things You Love More Than You Should

January 29, 2015 by Julie 154 Comments

I have a totally random blog post topic to discuss this morning, but first, let’s wake up with breakfast.

Oh hey, yogurt bowl! It’s been a while, huh?

yogurt bowl with oats and almonds

(Pay no attention to the woman in the spoon…)

Today’s breakfast included a strawberry Greek yogurt bowl topped with oats and sliced almonds. I was really craving overnight oats but since I failed to prep a batch last night, this yogurt and oat hodgepodge bowl was the next best thing.

yogurt bowl

This morning, as I made myself a cup of coffee, I honestly felt myself feel warmer inside before I even took a sip. I realized, then and there, just how much I love sipping on a hot beverage every morning.

Anthropologie J Mug

A hot mug of coffee or tea makes me feel cozy, calm (well, until the caffeine kicks in) and just plain happier. That’s totally crazy, right!? Well, as I started to think about just how happy a hot morning mug of coffee or tea makes me, I began thinking of other things that make me happier than they should. Things that are great, but their greatness is really disproportionate to my love for them.

For example: Candles.

pine candles

Candles are lovely, sure, but are they really that awesome? Probably not. But I really do adore the way lighting a candle can change the ambiance of a room and the way the strong smell of a holiday pine candle can take over our house and make it feel more homey.

More things I love more than I should:

  • Clean sheets
  • Pajamas
  • Seafood
  • Oversize cozy blankets
  • Gel nail polish (a splurge I rarely do, but ohmygosh it lasts so much longer)
  • Father of the Bride
  • BodyPump
  • Frozen yogurt
  • The Pitch Perfect soundtrack
  • Lip balm
  • An empty email inbox (this is just a pipe dream, but oh how wonderful it would be)
  • Mojitos
  • Scarves
  • Crafting
  • Sparkling water
  • Slippers

And then there are things I love way too much that I think are 100 percent deserving of all the love: My family, my best friends, Sadie, hiking, traveling, date nights, the mountains, reading, Christmas, dessert, massages and a homecooked meal.

I thought this might make a fun (and yes, totally random) topic for today’s blog post and I’d love to hear about things you love a little too much below!

Questions of the Morning

  • What are some things you love more than you really should?
  • What are some things you love that absolutely deserve your love and obsession?

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I’m so with you on the empty inbox thing! I have folders upon folders to file emails in because I can’t stand having clutter in my inbox. As I respond to one, it gets filed. Yesterday (for about 13 minutes) I actually achieved and empty inbox! It was glorious.
Other things… getting coffee from Starbucks, spending gift cards, having laundry completely done and put away (again, happens rarely, and for about 13 minutes…), having a clean house (which isn’t reality anymore…).

I love just great nights with some of my best friends- like all of us in comfy clothes, cooking dinner together and having game night. Or when my family abandons me on the holidays but I have all the friends that invite me to be apart of their family. Sometimes the best memories are not the biggest moments but the small moments that you will remember forever. I love those times. I also love being woken up by my nephew, “auntie, auntie, wake up!” Or the feeling of booking a ticket for a trip/place I have never been. Also, love rainy days where I can sit in pjs all day and watch all the tv I want and pinterest all day long. Sat or Sun mornings where i just wake up, sit in my pjs and sip on coffee all day. … man you really got me thinking! … Being back together with my college friends, trying to make it like how it was when we were back in college- but nothing can compare.

You definitely need to look into the Sally Hansen “Miracle Gel” polish! It lasts for at least a week or two and looks just as great as a professional manicure. The polish isn’t much more expensive than the regular kind plus a top coat. I’m hoping that come out with some great spring colors soon.

I would definitely add a gigantic glass of cold water, hot yoga classes (especially in the summer when you walk outside and the 80*+ weather now feels cool), and Third Eye Blind on the radio!! but I also love spending time with my partner, my puppies, and so many other things. It’s so nice to reflect on what we’re grateful for in our lives everyday! Thanks Julie!

Oh this is so fun! Here’s my list:
-Coffee- any time of day! It’s not the caffeine fix I need, but my mother definitely instilled a straight up love of drinking coffee in me!
-throw blankets- especially super soft ones
-anything with cupcake or pancakes on it (no lie I have a pair of cupcake sleep shorts, and a keychain of a stack of pancakes!)
-perfectly smooth and trimmed fingernails (doesn’t happen very often)
-creeks, streams, little ponds and other hidden little bodies of water (this one’s just weird, but I love discovering them!)

Girl I feel you on coffee and warm drinks! Just holding my mug relaxes me in a way I didn’t even know was possible! Perfect way to start my morning. Going on walks is something I love but rarely do. I’m either running for the “workout” or darting around town from one place to another. But a truly leisurely walk is something that I find so soothing and relaxing when I actually make time for it!

Things I may love too much- Putting make-up on just right. My red lip stick. Competition! A good TV show or Movie! (I’m a hard sell on what many consider good, but I just started watching White Collar, and I’m hooked!) Cereal- Honey Bunches, pajama parties (basically dancing in my pjs). Katy Perry and Kanye West songs…

But honestly i think when we love lots of things, it comes out of a place a full gratitude; which I think is wonderful!
