Things You Love More Than You Should

January 29, 2015 by Julie 154 Comments

I have a totally random blog post topic to discuss this morning, but first, let’s wake up with breakfast.

Oh hey, yogurt bowl! It’s been a while, huh?

yogurt bowl with oats and almonds

(Pay no attention to the woman in the spoon…)

Today’s breakfast included a strawberry Greek yogurt bowl topped with oats and sliced almonds. I was really craving overnight oats but since I failed to prep a batch last night, this yogurt and oat hodgepodge bowl was the next best thing.

yogurt bowl

This morning, as I made myself a cup of coffee, I honestly felt myself feel warmer inside before I even took a sip. I realized, then and there, just how much I love sipping on a hot beverage every morning.

Anthropologie J Mug

A hot mug of coffee or tea makes me feel cozy, calm (well, until the caffeine kicks in) and just plain happier. That’s totally crazy, right!? Well, as I started to think about just how happy a hot morning mug of coffee or tea makes me, I began thinking of other things that make me happier than they should. Things that are great, but their greatness is really disproportionate to my love for them.

For example: Candles.

pine candles

Candles are lovely, sure, but are they really that awesome? Probably not. But I really do adore the way lighting a candle can change the ambiance of a room and the way the strong smell of a holiday pine candle can take over our house and make it feel more homey.

More things I love more than I should:

  • Clean sheets
  • Pajamas
  • Seafood
  • Oversize cozy blankets
  • Gel nail polish (a splurge I rarely do, but ohmygosh it lasts so much longer)
  • Father of the Bride
  • BodyPump
  • Frozen yogurt
  • The Pitch Perfect soundtrack
  • Lip balm
  • An empty email inbox (this is just a pipe dream, but oh how wonderful it would be)
  • Mojitos
  • Scarves
  • Crafting
  • Sparkling water
  • Slippers

And then there are things I love way too much that I think are 100 percent deserving of all the love: My family, my best friends, Sadie, hiking, traveling, date nights, the mountains, reading, Christmas, dessert, massages and a homecooked meal.

I thought this might make a fun (and yes, totally random) topic for today’s blog post and I’d love to hear about things you love a little too much below!

Questions of the Morning

  • What are some things you love more than you really should?
  • What are some things you love that absolutely deserve your love and obsession?

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

This is a great topic! My list includes:

    – clean sheets and pajamas that you can snuggle in straight from the warm dryer
    – waking up on a weekend morning and just being able to lay in bed for a while
    – making lists and crossing things off those lists (sometimes I add things to a list after I’ve already done them just to be able to cross them off)
    – the smell of a good spring rain
    – magnificent fall leave colors

And of course those things that are completely deserving:
    – my family and friends
    – the start of a trip to a new place
    – sitting on the beach with a good book in hand

Fresh, clean bed sheets right out of the dryer and just made bed with them. If I could, I would wash my bed sheets every day (if it weren’t for that darn water bill) because I feel I sleep so much better this way. I also love scarves. I have over 15 (that doesn’t include my winter scarves either)–can you say obsessed much? I also have a love of board games. I would seriously pick a board game night as a date over anything else hands down.

I love this idea! Coffee is definitely #1 for me, which leads to me having it far more often than I should. It’s not even about the caffeine most of the time – it’s that happy warm feeling you get inside. 🙂

Also, my bed at home. I seriously miss that thing more than almost anything and wake up a new woman after a night in there.

Interesting perspective on loving versus really “loving” something.

Things I love more than I should → cozy fire, margaritas, froyo, cupcakes, wine, (so far this list makes me sound warm and unhealthy), mail, my phone, football, popcorn.

Things that I really love → My husband, family, friends, running, traveling, going to the movies, my husband’s cooking, the outdoors, blogging, long weekends, road trips, the beach.

I love this post so much because there are so many things that I love way more than I should (and think that very same thought – haha!). I think what tops my list would have to be organzing my nail polish in a color coordinated rainbow, greek yogurt smoothies, and my ninja blender (since it makes the smoothies!), blogging from bed, with my coffee, and of course, glitter!

Can I just say how much I love that Father of the Bride is on your list? I swear I could watch that movie every single day and never get bored. I cry every single time at the basketball scene and I don’t know why. So many things on your list would definitely fall under mine! If I’m just going to list movies, I would go with:

    -Father of the Bride (duh!)
    -Steel Magnolias
    -My Best Friend’s Wedding
    -Fried Green Tomatoes

I think I love these so much because they remind me of my Mom and Dad. Whenever I was little and stayed at home sick, my Mom would stay home with me and usually pop in one of the above movies. It just brings back so many memories and whenever they are on, I just feel home again. Weird, right?

Other things I love more than I should:

-Cleaning…don’t ask me why but I absolutely adore cleaning. It is therapeutic and there’s something about walking into a clean home that instantly makes me feel more relaxed.
    -Birthday Cake Oreos….obviously
-Office and desk supplies…my favorite store is Staples. I get giddy in the Post-It section and enjoy only a certain brand of pens (EnerGel if you’re curious LOL).

    I’m so bizarre.

    – Clean sheets (echoing everyone else)
    – Sushi

What a fun question! I love lots of things more than I should, but then again, these are sometimes the things that make life so happy. My list includes bubble baths (I take one every, single night), pizza, Sunday afternoons, bookstores, new books, old books, coffee, long walks, and when my cat sleeps in our bed or on my lap.

This conversation reminds me of my favorite passage from one of my favorite books, If Nobody Speaks of Remarkable Things:
“You must always look with both of your eyes and listen with both of your ears. He says this is a very big world and there are many many things you could miss if you are not careful. There are remarkable things all the time, right in front of us, but our eyes have like the clouds over the sun and our lives are paler and poorer if we do not see them for what they are. If nobody speaks of remarkable things, how can they be called remarkable?”

In fact, I have a canvas that says, “There are remarkable things all the time” on my bedroom wall 🙂
