Trick AND Treat

October 31, 2011 by Julie 123 Comments

This Halloween has been full of tricks and treats.

Unfortunately the trick part of the day was not a fun one and it was one that I did to myself.

halloween 014

I was backing out of our garage on my way to the grocery store to pick up candy for tonight’s trick-or-treaters when BAM, I ran into the side of the garage.

I was trying to avoid a car that was parked in our driveway and was concentrating on not hitting that car with the back of my car and totally neglected my side mirror.

I already got an estimate on the damage and to simply replace the mirror and the cracked white casing will be nearly $500. I’m planning to see if there are junkyards nearby or if I may be able to order the part online before shelling out that much dough.

You better believe I filled myself up with lots of treats after that nasty trick.

The peanut butter Snickers from that pack are all but gone.

Dinner

Dinner tonight was festive in colors.

Orange + Black!

halloween 019

Black beans, roasted sweet potatoes and squash served as sides to chicken breasts that I pan fried after seasoning them with mesquite seasoning.

And now I’m hoping for lots of Trick-or-Treaters! I have a very full candy bowl and can’t wait to see some cute and scary costumes.

Question of the Evening

  • Have you ever been in an accident or damaged your car?

My accident history looks like this:

  • Accident, 2003: Replace bumper of car
  • Accident, 2008: Totaled car <— Awful experience

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Definitely check out a junkyard. I lost the mirror on a brand new car courtesy of a drunken stranger last Halloween. If you are handy (or have a very handy guy in your life), you should be able to make the repairs at $100 or less. You may not even need an auto shops help; especially if you can find the right color mirror at the junkyard.

This made me laugh because I have done the EXACT same thing in my car! I felt so dumb! Of course it was on my way to work so I was panicked! I just laugh at myself now 🙂

Question for you – I’ve roasted sweet potatoes in chunks and I’ve made them into fries, but I’ve never done the circles like you show in this post. For some reason they are looking SO good like that! Could you give me temp and time info?
Thanks, and sorry about your mirror. 🙁

I was traveling to University with my younger sister one morning, in the snow, and started to fishtail, ended up in a deep ditch on the driver side. Some wonderful people stopped to help us (neither of us were injured). They had to hold my sisters passenger door open, and we literally had to climb straight up as they pulled us up. One of the passerby happened to be taking his wife to babysit their grandkids nearby, so he stayed with us and kept us warm while we waited for a tow truck, and another passerby took his wife to babysit the grandkids…then he drove us to school once the vehicle was towed! Luckily there was no serious damage – a dent on the side where it landed on a boulder, and it deflated one of the tires. I was very fortunate to be helped by some very friendly people:)

Other than that, a lady backed into me once when she was pulling out of a parking spot. I honked and tried to get her attention, but she wasn’t paying attention. I think because I was younger, she was trying to force me to go 50/50 and not go through our insurance companies, but I was barely out of University and could not afford that. I felt like she was bullying me, and so I let the insurance companies handle it, and both of our insurance companies deemed her at fault, so I’m glad I didn’t listen to her!!

My oldest sister has done that while backing out of the garage – it stinks, but it happens. Definitely check junkyards, and you can probably fix it for way less than you think:)

The only time something needed replaced on my car over the last 8 years that i’ve had it (and this is my first car too – woot!!) was the one time i let my ex-boyfriend drive it. He parked it half out of a spot and a snow plow hit the bumper and left a huge hole in it. And then, he wouldn’t even pay for it!! Luckily, I worked at a car dealership during that summer of college and was able to have it replaced for much cheaper w/o involving any insurance company.

[…] When we arrived home from my gym, my stomach felt a little funky. I don’t think I drank nearly enough water this weekend and felt a little off last night. The feeling came back after I showered this morning and I ended up curling up in bed in my robe for 15 minutes waiting for my stomach to feel better before we had to leave to go pick up my newly repaired car.
