Trooper

January 30, 2013 by Julie 206 Comments

Sadie is such a trooper.

I took her to the vet’s office right when they opened this morning and the woman at the front desk told me Sadie was scheduled for one of the first surgeries of the day. (First up? A bunny getting neutered, which I found oddly comical.)

I came home and did my best to study while I waited to hear back.

I made simple summer chili for lunch (I used turkey instead of lean ground beef) and ate it with Snapea Crisps.

chili

snap pea crisps

I first tried Snapea Crisps at Katy’s baby shower. File them under “things that shouldn’t taste good but somehow do.”

snap pea chips

After lunch it was time to pick up the little patient.

The vet said Sadie did great and that everyone got a kick out of her before surgery. They called her “Slink” because she kept acting feeble before they even did anything to her. I guess Sadie shares my fear of all things medical.

Because of where Sadie’s stitches are, the vet said she didn’t need to wear a cone, but recommended that we put her in a t-shirt if we leave her alone so she doesn’t scratch at the area.

She is definitely still feelin’ the meds, because she is currently staring straight down at a blanket on the couch.

IMG_2166-001

I plan to stay by her side and study on the couch while she slowly returns to normal.

IMG_2162-001

Her eyes are droopy and watery and she’s drifting in and out of sleep. I’m giving her lots of love and told her about all of your kind well-wishes.

I really must sincerely thank all of you for your amazing kindness. I know Sadie is “just a dog,” but she truly feels like a furry member of the Fagan family and adds so much joy to my life that I hate to see her in any pain. She’s doing so well, and I’m very hopeful that the biopsy results will help shed more light on what exactly is going on in her little body and give us a course of action to take to get her healthy! As always, I promise to keep you in the loop. We were told we’d hear more within a week.

Off to study and give Sadie some love. Thank you again for your warm wishes. You guys are the best!

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Poor Sadie! Sending her lots of positive energy and love. My dog growing up had so many problems. Every time we took him to the vet we would all say good-bye to him. Then a couple hours later he’d be back. He lived ’til he was 15 years old, which I’d say is a great life for a dog. Amazing enough, even through all his problems the vet was able to find a cure and in no time he was back to himself. I hope the same for Sadie!

I love snapea crisps – so addicting.

I’ve just started blogging myself (mommyinginmanhattan.wordpress.com) after about a year of reading your blog and few others, and was wondering what blogging platform you’re using. I started with WordPress but am finding it a bit frustrating…

And I’m definitely trying the chili recipe — looks yummy!

There’s no such thing as “just a dog.” Our puppy is our fur child and I would be heartbroken if anything ever happened to him. I was a wreck when he had to get his teeth cleaned, and that was just a routine procedure.

I have to say, I never used to understand when people said that dogs were like their children and I’d always kind of secretly roll my eyes. But now I have a one-year-old newfie now, and I have done a complete 180! I literally cried every day of a ten day vacation because I missed him so much and I was worried about him. Sooo yeah, “just a dog” does not even begin to cover how you feel about your pets, and I hope that Sadie has a speedy recovery and that this ends up being nothing to worry about!

I used to think that dogs were “just dogs” until I got one for my mom and lived with the puppy for a short 6 months. Now I totally get it. Sadie is part of your family, no doubt about it! Glad she’s out of surgery and home with mommy! 😉

Poor baby! Her tired little face brought tears to my eyes! She will be back up and running in no time! 🙂 In my opinion, there is no such thing as “just a dog”, there are jut people who say it without thinking because they don’t know what else to say. I had my first dog Max, for 14 1/2 years and when he died six years ago after a brief illness, I thought I was prepared. I was not prepared. When a co-worker made the “just a dog comment” I was crushed, I felt like she was attempting to diminish my loss. Max was not just a dog, he was my dog. My heart, my best friend and my favorite workout partner. It took me 5 years before I could even think of having another pet, but I’m so very glad I did. It is amazing how much pets give to us and our lives!

So happy you got your girl back today! I’m also happy to hear things went well. Whoever said (or made you think) that Sadie is “just a dog” is crazy. All animals are a part of the family if you truly love them! I had a little fish who helped me get through some tough times because he was just so soothing to watch swim around and got excited when I would come near his tank, even though he only knew me as the ‘shadow that feeds him’, but when he died, I buried him in the back yard because I couldn’t bring myself to flush him. Best of luck to you guys!

My puppy has puppy energy so the only time I got to snuggle with him in a blanket was when I brought him home from the vet. Their eyes scare me so much! It looks like a severe case of pink eye 🙁 I’m glad Sadie got through the surgery and is safe at home. Fingers crossed for good results!

They are NEVER “just a dog” when its YOUR dog! I’m sure people would find it completely dumb that I had my mom skype with me before she took my dog to the vet to be put down. It was the last time I saw her, and she just looked at me and kinda knew. She was our baby. Sadie is yours, and I’m SO glad she’s ok!

Random question: I have been a pretty silent reader for a couple years now and I remember reading about how you went to high tea a while back. I live in West Palm Beach and am trying to either a) find a place to take my grandma for high tea or b) find out where you went. I tried using you search bar but it brings up basically every post you mention “tea”in…which is a lot! Haha please helppp 🙂
