Upper Body + Cardio Workout

February 17, 2015 by Julie 35 Comments

During my time on Sanibel Island, I haven’t been worrying too much about traditional workouts. We’ve been staying fairly active riding bikes outside, walking on the beach and exploring, but on Friday morning, we did manage to make it to the local recreation center to squeeze in a morning workout. It felt good to lift some weights and work up a sweat before lunchtime! My sister and I ended up completing an upper body + cardio workout that kept things moving and seriously elevated our heart rates.

Leslie wanted me to jot it down for her to keep on hand when she needs some workout inspiration, so I figured why not share it with you guys, too? Below you will find our Friday morning upper body + cardio workout:

Upper Body Cardio Workout

For the cardio portion of the workout, you can choose whatever form of cardio you wish! We jumped around a lot and took our cardio to the elliptical and the treadmill for some incline walking or jogging. If you are doing this workout at home or don’t want to waste time at the gym running from one cardio machine to the next, jump rope is a great cardio option, or you can run through this 5-minute cardio circuit:

  • 1 min. jumping jacks
  • 1 min. high knees
  • 1 min. jog in place
  • 1 min. butt kickers
  • 1 min. front kicks

And here are a few picture demos of some of the exercises:

  • Bicep 21s

bicep 21s

  • Hand Release Push Ups

  • Bosu Burpees

  • Plank Row

This workout did a great job of holding our interest and we left the gym feeling like we accomplished a quality workout in a relatively short amount of time. Woo!

Good workout! Workouts definitely shouldn’t be mandatory on trips, but it’s always nice to squeeze in a quick session. Great you could do it with Leslie too. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

I like bosu burpees way more than regular burpees! I incorporate them into boot camp classes I teach a lot and they’re an exercise everyone loves to hate. 🙂

I decided to use this workout as my 27th birthday workout! I changed the reps, however. For each exercise I did 3 sets of 9 reps so I could do 27 each! It was a great work out to end my birthday 🙂
