We Finally Bought It!

March 18, 2011 by Julie 76 Comments

At lunch today Ryan and I discussed our plans for the evening. Earlier this week, we talked about using a gift certificate to a fancy schmancy restaurant tonight, but at lunch we said we just weren’t feelin’ it. Since we’ve both been feeling slightly under the weather this week, a relaxing evening at home sounded much more appealing.

Before settling in for the night, however, we had some special errands to run.

Ryan dropped me off at Marshalls while he went to get his haircut nearby. I browsed around not planning on buying anything… but you know how that goes. Winking smile

I nabbed this Calvin Klein dress for $30. (I definitely wouldn’t wear it with tights. I just didn’t feel like changing.)

Though I think the dress is really cute, these wedges were the find of the day!

Charles David nude wedges for $40? Sign me up!

Other errands took us to Sports Authority and PetSmart to pick up some rawhide chews for Sadie. While at the store, a puppy training class was about to begin and I just had to pet some of the little guys!

They were so, so adorable. I wish I could own a billion puppies!

Then it was time for the most important errand.

We walked into Bed Bath and Beyond and I could feel my excitement level rise. We had big plans for this store and headed right to the blenders.

It was time. Time to combine our wedding gift cards and buy the blender we’ve been talking about since we registered for gifts for our wedding.

The Vitamix!

We actually registered for two blenders for our wedding. One really nice one and one “dream” blender. Well, we received the really nice blender but held onto it and finally decided to return it and put the cost of that blender toward the ridiculously expensive Vitamix.

Get this: The Vitamix is $500. We had wedding gift cards, a 20 percent off coupon to Bed Bath and Beyond and the credit from the returned blender, so we nabbed this little baby for only $120!

After purchasing the Vitamix, we put it in our backseat and swung by Chipotle for a quick dinner.

I enjoyed a pork burrito and Ryan and I shared a side of chips and guacamole.

All I can say is that I really could’ve used a chipurro after dinner.

Once we were done eating, it was time to test the Vitamix’s power!

When I opened the Vitamix box at home, I was excited to find a recipe binder included!

When I told Ryan about this neat find, he said, “Well, for $500 I would hope so! I hope you also find a $100 bill in there!”

We figured blending up a simple smoothie would be a great way to see what the Vitamix can do.

Into the blender went:

  • 1 c. frozen strawberries
  • 3/4 c. blueberry yogurt
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 1 c. cold water

The result? A perfectly blended smoothie.

The Vitamix blended this smoothie up in no time at all. The power this blender has is amazing and I cannot wait to make bazillions of different smoothies, soups and other creations with our new blender!

Off to hang with my little family for the rest of the night. So glad the weekend is here!

My favorite thing about the Vitamix is its ability to pulverize literally anything! One night we were in to making new cocktails — in went a pear and it ended in a delicious pear martini 🙂

Congrats on the Vita!!! I didnt know they sold it at BB&B! I bought my Breville Juicer there and a $300 juicer less 20% with a coupon was a major score.

I bought my Vita about 3 yrs ago and back then, they didnt carry it there. Only at Costco and online.

Anyway you are going to LOVE IT!! I use mine daily++ for the last 3 yrs!

No offense, but I hope for $500 a blender could make such a simple smoothie. My favorite, my 14 cup cuisine art food processor, can do that and so so so much more and it was not that expensive; what are you blending, boulders?? I hope your blender makes every meal in your house from now on!

How weird is this, I was just looking at the Vitamix today since Kimberly Snyder swears by it. It’s also the number 1 blender according to consumer reports. Since I’m just starting out with the green smoothies, consumer reports told me to the Oster BCBG08 is also good…and it’s only $40.

Anyway, long story short I’m so blender jealous!!

So exciting. I have to always think and rethink when I buy stuff! I felt this same way when I recently bought a new computer and ran home to open it with so much excitement. I am usually the type to put stuff in my cart and take it back out 5 minutes later. except when I go grocery shopping! Awesome new dress too!

Just a the short time we have had it, I have made smoothies, guacamole, margarita’s, pina colada’s, nut butters and have ground all sorts of things (flax, corn, buckwheat), etc. You are going to love it! I hummed and hawed between Vitamix and Blendtec for over a year before finally deciding on the Blendtec – slightly more horsepower (ha! for a blender!) and, because I’m lazy, the square sides make it easier to clean. BUT I know that they both can do AMAZING things – you can even make soup, like heated and everything, from raw vegetables, just in the blender. SO yum and SO good for you!

I really hesitated to spend that much on a blender too, but here’s what I did: every time I had to fight with my old blender to get it to blend spinach or parsley or kale or whatever for my green smoothies, I added a dollar to a jar (sometimes two!). Considering I make a smoothie every single day, and sometimes twice a day, it didn’t take long for those dollars to add up! And it was really worth the wait.

Our blender it s a cheap one , but I remeber when we bought it, my husband made like a gallon of smoothies an because we had so much leftover, he had to drink it in a short amount of time.

Guess who spend the rest of the ninght counting flyes on bathroom walls? Excitement can be bad sometimes…

I wish you more colorfull drinks with that blender!
