Well Played, Kate Morton

January 31, 2013 by Julie 66 Comments

I am so glad I stuck with The Secret Keeper.

The Secret Keeper Kate Morton

I stayed up a little too late last night reading because I couldn’t put this book down!

The Secret Keeper started a bit slow but the last third of it absolutely flew by and included a bunch of different twists. There was one major twist at the end that I definitely didn’t see coming. I love it when a book convinces you that a story is finally coming to a close, only to shock the heck out of you with a twist. Well played, Kate Morton. Well played. (Just a reminder that we’ll be discussing this book on the blog on Monday!)

Workout Catch Up

I know this blog has been awfully dog-centric this week because of Sadie’s lump removal. She’s obviously on the top of my mind so she’s been the center of my blog posts and as I sat down to blog this morning, I realized I haven’t talked about workouts at all this week!

I’ve resumed Tina’s Best Body Boot Camp this week after a week off to enjoy a little variety in the form of BodyPump and BodyCombat classes in Jacksonville. Boot Camp participants actually entered Phase 2 last week, so I’m a week behind, but I enjoyed playing catch up because the workouts have been a little different!

I always seem to forget about split squats when I work out on my own, so I love that Tina incorporated them into yesterday’s workout.

Though they’re challenging, they aren’t quite as difficult as single leg deadlifts for me. Now those really kick my butt!

Breakfast

Breakfast this morning centered around pancakes.

coconut pancakes

Earth Origins, a local natural food store in Ocala, sells unsweetened shredded coconut in their bulk bins and it is the perfect pancake topper. I don’t really miss the sweetness of the sweetened shredded coconut found at most grocery stores and I still get that punch of coconut flavor.

Yum!

Sadie Update

Sadie is doing very well this morning! Her eyes are no longer droopy and she is still a little groggy, but I have a feeling her normal energy level will return in no time at all. I’ll update you again when we hear more about the biopsy results from the vet. Thank you again for your sweet words yesterday.

Hey Julie, Just wanted to say how happy I am that Sadie is recovering well. I consider my dog my child lol and I know what you are going through. I have a blue nose pitbull, Santino and a couple yrs. back, I also started noticing bumps on his body. They weren’t just lumps though. The lumps would get bigger and smaller within hours and when they would get bigger, they would really irritate him especially depending on where they were located.
Unfortunately, the lumps did turn out to be cancerous tumors. The vet advised us that as long as we have the lumps removed that Santino should be ok and that he did not believe that they cancer would spread farther internally and that the cancer meds would just make him sick and wouldn’t add any additional years to his life.
Santino goes in for surgery every few months or so to have the lumps removed and you really wouldn’t know that he has cancer. I just wanted to let you know that I know what you are going through and it is so heartbreaking but we do what we have to for our family.. right?!?! Feel free to contact me if you need to talk. Love ya girl and keep us updated!

Glad to hear Sadie is on her way to feeling 100%! My pomeranian, Linus, has had some medical issues of his own lately. I had to put him back on pain meds and steroids because his joints were starting to swell up again and he couldn’t even walk a foot without shedding tears from the pain. He seems to be doing a little better, now. He definitely doesn’t mind getting his medication stuffed inside a small piece of string cheese, either. 🙂

Deadlifts in general kick my butt, I couldn’t imagine doing single-leg deadlifts right now. Plus, my right knee would probably give out. Haha. Save those for later. I’m glad Sadie is doing okay!

I’m so glad your pup is ok. I know how scary it can be to have dog with health scares. Luckily, she’s on the mend!

Have you read Fortune is a Woman? I read it like 10 years ago and every single time someone asks me for a book to read I reccomend that, maybe keep that in mind for bookclub? It really is an amazing book.

Glad Sadie is doing well! My Malamute had to have a big gland removed from her neck awhile ago and she still looks pretty pathetic. They had to shave a HUGE section on her neck and her fur is so so thick so it’s taking forever to grow back. We’ve had to get her a puppy scraf for walks, I’m up in Alberta Canada and the weather is about -30 so she needs the warmth! Give Sadie hugs for me!

Glad to hear Sadie is doing better. I LOVE her face; it literally made me laugh out loud.
Funny that split leg squats aren’t as difficult for you as one-legged deadlifts. It’s the total opposite for me!

I work with a trainer twice a week (because I tend to get bored and in a rut by myself). And he started me on split squats today! HAHAH! Sorry, I just got excited when I knew the pain we are (BOTH) feeling from this… but a GREAT pain!! Happy Friday!
