20 Minute Hotel Room Workout

September 24, 2013 by Julie 69 Comments

It seems like this year has been jam-packed with travel for me. Since visiting and exploring new places brings me a lot of joy, this is a great thing, but it can also make it hard to stick to a fitness routine.

If I’m on vacation, I don’t really worry about missing a workout here and there, but if travel is a frequent occurrence in your life due to work or other obligations, you may wish to find a way to remain active while you’re on the go. Running is probably my favorite out-of-town workout because it allows me to sneak away and check out a new destination on foot in the quiet of the morning. Sometimes running outside isn’t always an option due to weather or safety concerns, so a quick hotel room workout is a great standby!

Here is one of my go-to 20 minute travel workouts that I can do before the craziness of the day sets in. It doesn’t require any equipment and can be done anywhere. Just be aware of anyone sleeping below you!

I hope these workouts help get your heart pumpin’ the next time you hit the road!

Question of the Morning

  • Do you travel often?
  • When you travel how do you maintain an active lifestyle?

When I travel, I enjoy walking around and exploring a new area and will use that as my main way to remain active, but if a trip doesn’t allow for a lot of activity, I like to get up early and go for a run. It’s a great way to take in a new place and check out some unseen areas before the hustle and bustle of the day sets in.

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I LOVE to travel, but I don’t get to as often as I’d like. When I do, I walk everywhere so that I can explore the area as well as get some exercise in. Plus, a lot of gyms and fitness centers will give you a free day pass/class/etc. to try them out, so sometimes I go that route 🙂

Great workout! I have found that it makes my trip much more enjoyable when I workout- even a quick one like this! Thanks for sharing.

I travel regularly for work. I agree that getting outside is the best (esp after a day at the office). I also bring a thin yoga mat that folds up as well to do my in-room workouts. And I also do my makeup in airport bathrooms:)

Hey Julie! First off, just wanted to say that I love your blog! I always look forward to checking for new posts in the mornings; it’s become part of my routine 🙂 I also wanted to let you know about an app called sworkit (free!) that lets you pick a duration/type of workout, whether it be cardio or strength, and runs you through a bunch of timed exercises. It’ll even chime to let you know when to switch. I thought it’d be a great travel workout tool since, from what I’ve seen so far, doesn’t require equipment. Anyway, just wanted to share! Keep on shinin, girl!

This is a good list! I like when you do workouts that don’t require weights, because I travel ALL the time. Its very difficult to stay with a routine on the road. I usually hit the hotel gym and use the treadmill and weights (if they have them). I will also do a tabata style workout in my room if the hotel gym sucks.

I studied abroad last semester so I traveled a lot then (wee 10 countries in 4 months!). During the winter and in hostels it was hard to work out but I made a point to walk as much as possible or look up some very quick workouts to do throughout the weekend. In the spring I went for a run around the town I was traveling!

Now that I’ll be traveling in a few weeks to Vegas I think a hotel workout would be perfect.

This is awesome! I travel quite a bit for work and always try to scout out the hotel gym as soon as I arrive but sometimes the equipment just isn’t up to par. Great to have in-room options! Hope you’re enjoying Canada!
