Kix for the College Kid in Me

November 23, 2010 by Julie 30 Comments

Growing up, I wasn’t much of a cereal girl.

Rather than pour myself a bowl Froot Loops, I opted for packets of instant oatmeal, cinnamon toast, Eggo waffles or a Toaster Struedel on most mornings.

When I entered college, I discovered the beauty that is cold cereal. It was my go-to snack and would become my breakfast, lunch and dinner when I was trying to save some money. I once ate an entire box of Froot Loops in one day(… and then something magical happened). 😉

I typically do not buy cold cereal often because it isn’t very filling and I have no self control around it. I can easily down multiple bowls and still not feel satisfied.

Though I know this about myself, I couldn’t resist picking up a box of Kix that was on sale for $2 at the grocery store this week.

Kix!

I don’t know what it is about those little puffed corn balls, but I love ’em.

I ate three bowls of the cereal with milk this morning.

Kix for Me

Eat Up!

It was a simple and yummy breakfast, but I have a feeling I’m going to be ravenous soon. I packed provisions to bring to work just in case hunger strikes extra hard before my morning snack.

Workout

My workout this morning was completed with a buddy… well two buddies, if you count Sadie.

After leashing up Sadie, we hopped in the car and drove to meet my friend Laurel for a 5-mile run around a lake near her apartment.

Laurel 'n' Me!

(Picture taken before the Chicago Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon we ran together in August.)

Laurel was a bridesmaid in our wedding, and I haven’t seen her since the big day! She’s been really busy with graduate school classes and Ryan and I were off honeymooning, so it was so great to see her and catch up while also accomplishing a great workout.

5-Mile Run Stats

I loved finishing a quality run without even realizing I was working out. I was much more wrapped up in talking with Laurel, so the time flew by.

Now it’s time to do that work thang!

See ya later with a TASTY recipe. 😀

Oh I’m so pumped for that recipe 😉

I totally agree with the cereal deal! Although I WAS a huge fan of Lucky Charms when I was little, and may or may not have stolen all the marshmallows out of the box before it was even halfway gone. Kix are so delicious though, and simple, too.

Glad you enjoyed your workout – everything in life is better with a friend 🙂

    Enjoy your morning, Julie!

Those look delicious! Kix looks like the same type of cereal as Corn Pops. I don’t know if that’s just our Canadian version of Kix, but either way they’re DELICIOUS! One of my favourite cereals.

It’s so nice to finish a workout without even really realizing it! Sometimes I get so lost in my music that my workout is over before I realize it.

I JUST wrote a post about breakfast cereals yesterday! I included some tips about how to pick healthy cereals (less than 5 grams sugar, etc), and I’m pretty sure Kix fits the bill! Here’s the post http://www.enjoyyourcheerios.com/2010/11/munchies-monday-breakfast-cereal.html

I love Kix, but I definitely had to stop buying cereal because it is too expensive when you need 5 bowls to fill up! However if I saw it on sale I might be tempted!

I picked up a box of Nature’s Path “Slim Optimum” cereal on the weekend (per cup it has 9g fibre and 9g of protein!) and although I was worried it would be too healthy (aka. tasting like nature), its actually SO good and keeps me full for a couple of hours. 🙂

I’m the same way around cereal. I feel like they lace it with crack — why else can I not stop myself? Err, except, I’m not a crack addict 😕

I agree that cold cereal isn’t very filling. Usually, I buy those mini boxes and eat it with some yogurt for a snack. Its built-in portion control, and you get a variety.

I used to love Kix! Once when I was in 4th grade, my friend Courtney and I put Kix all over the floor and tried to jump off her bed without crushing any. I’m sure her mom would have been thrilled to know that we were doing that.

I’m the same way about cereal… one bowl is never satisfying! It’s better that I don’t bring things like Cheerio’s or Kix into the house!

I can’t control myself around cold cereal either!

Kix are good….but when I was growing up, I preferred Cheerios or Rice Krspies.

These days I prefer Kashi Autumn Promise (kind of like shredded mini wheats). I eat that cereal by the handful…delicious!

My favorite is LIFE cereal. Those little pillows of yummy-ness with a few sugar crystals in the middle is so good! You are right about eating multiple bowls of cereal and still not feeling full tho.
Now I get the mini chocolate shredded wheat cereal and its great to snack on without milk!

As I groggily sat down at my comp with my bowl of cereal this morning to read your A.M. post, I did a double take at your mention of Kix, looked down and realized that’s what I was eating! They are pretty much completely addictive.
