Hot Dog

July 28, 2012 by Julie 20 Comments

When you take a dog hiking at 11:15 a.m. in the middle of the summer in Florida, you’re left with one hot dog on the drive home.

Yes, those towels were there to catch her slobber.

Hiking is probably our favorite thing to do in Ocala, but we haven’t gone in quite a while because the horseflies got so bad when the weather warmed up. Today we sprayed our bodies with hardcore “Deep Woods” bug spray, filled up some water bottles and set out in the heat for a short three-mile hike.

Sadie was happy to be back out on the trails!

(As I’m sure you can tell from the above picture, my Mommy 2012 campaign to be Sadie’s favorite is in serious jeopardy.)

It was a sweaty hike, but it felt good to get out there and explore a little.

Lunch

When we arrived home, we were quite hungry.

To take the edge off, I ate a banana while I assembled a salad.

Today’s salad was a repeat of my watermelon, arugula, spinach and feta salad only this time I used salt and olive oil rather than a pomegranate dressing.

My favorite summer salad!

I was still a little hungry after lunch, so I popped myself a bag of snack size butter popcorn.

Ryan and I have dinner plans in Orlando tonight, so I’m off to shower and change into something other than sweaty gym clothes.

Hope you’re having a great weekend!

Watermelon on a salad sounds awesome right now, especially since my mom just bought some from the store! 😀

Sadie is beyond cute. My family has four dogs but I am looking to get a dog of my own soon. Do Vizslas shed a lot? I am slightly allergic to dog hair and it would be better to get a dog that is a light shedder, but Sadie is so dang cute I think I would suffer through some sneezing 🙂

I can’t handle the pictures of Sadie. I squee with joy. Sometimes out loud. Sometimes when I’m reading this in public spaces, like my office cube. No shame.

I went hiking this morning too and we brought along my friend’s dog. By the end he was definitely one hot dog and he just completely passed out on the car ride home. He had fun but he was done. It was kind of adorable!

i absolutely love watermelon and feta cheese together over arugala or spinach.. yum! but that would no way in hell fill me up, especially after a work out in the morning and a three mile hike in the heat! props to you for not eating much else!! maybe you were saving up for a fancy schmancy dinner tonight in orlando!!

We were just talking about how we hadn’t had any watermelon today but that we didn’t get one often because we didn’t get through it fast enough. But I bet if we incorporated it onto a salad we would!

I dont know how you hike in that kind of heat. It is well over 110 here in Scottsdale, AZ and I can not even attempt to hike or I would be taking a helicopter lift off the mountain! It looks like you have lots of shade, the mountain provides no relief from the sun.

What brand of pomegranate dressing do you use? That combo is a classic, the perfect summer salad to cool you off!
