BBQ Turkey Meatloaf

May 7, 2013 by Julie 56 Comments

Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

In addition to working out and blogging this morning, I did something rather unusual before 9 a.m. I made a bbq turkey meatloaf!

BBQ Turkey Meatloaf

I knew I’d be working through lunch and dinner today, so I figured I’d make a meatloaf in the morning so I’d have a tasty lunch and dinner that I could easily reheat when I got hungry.

Ground turkey served as the base of my meatloaf and I incorporated one of my favorite kinds of barbeque sauce, Bone Suckin’ Sauce, into the meatloaf to amp up the flavor. It was delicious!

Description

Ground turkey served as the base of my meatloaf and I incorporated one of my favorite kinds of barbeque sauce, Bone Suckin’ Sauce, into the meatloaf to amp up the flavor. It was delicious!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb. ground turkey
  • 1/3 cup + 2 tablespoons BBQ sauce
  • 2 teaspoons mustard
  • 2 egg whites
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 1/3 cup scallions, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Combine all ingredients except for 2 tablespoons of BBQ sauce in a large bowl and stir until everything is thoroughly combined.
  3. Press mixture into a loaf pan sprayed with cooking spray. Top with remaining BBQ sauce.
  4. Bake for 45 – 55 minutes.
  5. Slice, serve with additional barbeque sauce if desired and enjoy!

Turkey BBQ Meatloaf

You could easily use lean ground beef in place of the turkey if you prefer, but it was quite flavorful with the turkey. I’m a fan!

I don’t ever think that meatloaf looks very good, you know?! But it always sounds good and usually tastes wonderfully too…My Andy’s favorite food is meatloaf so I’m always trying out new meatloaf recipes 🙂

I am a HUGE fan of dinner foods for breakfast. Whenever I’m really hungry in the morning, it only makes sense to eat something filling and full of protein that would usually be considered dinner food, that’s how i look at it. this looks soo good!

I would say this looks delicious… but it’s meatloaf. It does sound really good though, I like the idea of making it bbq flavor. I hate ketchup so any meatloaf recipe that skips that sounds great to me!

That looks amazing! I used to be kind of afraid of meatloaf when I was younger until I lived in Italy and had the most amazing meatloaf ever. Now I always am up for trying different versions at restaurants but still haven’t made it myself!

This is so funny! I just told my hubby yesterday that I missed my mom’s turkey meatloaf. I wish I could recreate it, but our oven broke in April. 🙁 I wonder if turkey meatloaf is possible in the crockpot?

I do the same thing when I know that I am busy…cook in the morning! It still kind of feels weird cooking a savory “dinner” type dish in the early morning, but whatever works so there is healthy and yummy food ready to go!!!
