Booty Dancin’ Like Britney

October 28, 2011 by Julie 53 Comments

When the alarm went off this morning, Ryan turned it off and I laid there for a minute or two like I always do before throwing off the sheets and walking toward the bathroom.

I glanced at the clock and did a double take.

4:47 a.m.

“Ryan! What the heck!?” I said.

Apparently someone had an early meeting at work this morning and decided we needed to get to the gym 15 minutes earlier than usual and set our alarm for 4:45 a.m.

For some reason waking up at 4:45 a.m. seemed so much more intense than a 5 a.m. wake up call. When I asked Ryan why he didn’t give me a warning about the earlier-than-usual wake up time, he said, “I figured this was one of those situations where it would be better to ask for forgiveness than for permission.”

Let’s hope he doesn’t teach our kids that mentality one day.

Workout

Truth be told, I didn’t feel any more tired after waking up only 15 minutes earlier and by the time we were at the gym and I started my workout, it felt like any other workout.

I started with 20 minutes of incline walking before completing three sets of 15 – 20 repetitions of the following exercises:

  • Superset One: Tricep dips, Upright rows
  • Superset Two: Mac raises, Incline bicep curls
  • Superset Three: Chest press, Low rows
  • Tricep pull downs

Then I did three minutes non-stop of the following:

  • Bicep curls (varying speeds)
  • Shoulder exercises (front raises, upright rows, overhead press, side raises)

The best part of my workout today? The music! I didn’t use my iPod at all because the gym was playing awesome throwback songs including:

  • Baby Got Back – Sir Mix-a-Lot
  • Ghetto Superstar – Pras, Maya & ODB
  • Poison – Bell Biv DeVo  (Any other fans of The Sing Off love Urban Method’s a cappella version of this song?)
  • Be My Lover – LaBouche <—You know how much I love LaBouche!

It took everything I had not to drop it low and start booty dancing when Baby Got Back came on. Not like I actually have moves to bust out… but I do love to dance, and after a few beers, I move like Britney Spears in my mind.

Breakfast

Breakfast today was fruity and fabulous.

I made myself a hot bowl of apple cinnamon and banana oatmeal.

apple cinnamon oatmeal 009

I combined oats, milk, a large sliced apple, banana slices and brown sugar and dug in.

apple cinnamon oatmeal 008

The apples and cinnamon made this meal taste festively fall. Mmm!

Hope your Friday is off to a great start!

Haha, I love the picture of your face on Britney’s body! I love the throwback songs that you listened to at the gym today! 🙂

Hot apple cinnamon oats sound and look perfect on this freezing cold morning! We had our first frost today and possibly snow tomorrow. Way too early for this! Happy Friday!

That breakfast looks amazing. I was told by my neighbor on the treadmill yesterday, “you’re a singer!” I said, “what?” He said, you were singing out loud while you were running!” I had no idea. Apparently listening to Pink gets me in a belting kinda mood. Have a great day!

Baha, the other day I had a dream that my alarm went off, so I woke up in a panic that I was late, sprinted to the bathroom, did the whole bathroom thang, came back into our room, checked the time…2:30 am. Whoops.

I’d rather be a funny dancer than a sexy dancer any day!!!

I think it’s a mental block. Before 5 am just doesn’t seem like morning! Love the Britney double take. I really thought it was you on Halloween for a good 5 minutes! I’ve tried incorporating your three minute upper body repeat moves into my strength training and I love them! Definitely works your muscles differently.

I did the same thing this morning (no iPod). But I was reading Catching Fire.

My 14 miles may be in danger tomorrow. 80% chance of rain and a morning low of 36. NOT happening. Probably won’t happen on a treadmill either. May have to push to Sunday.

Hey I’m curious, when you make oatmeal, do you normally add some type of sugar to it? I see today you said you used brown sugar. I am trying to cut back on adding sugar to food, but some things like oatmeal need something to tweak the flavor. I like to use maple syrup.
