Funktified

August 22, 2011 by Julie 80 Comments

I’m pretty sure “funktified” isn’t a real word, but for some reason I feel like it’s the perfect word to describe how I’ve been feeling about my overall heath, fitness and eating lately.

vizsla with ball

I am definitely a creature of habit. I typically have a plan to my days and stick to it without a problem.

Well, not having a real place to call home and living out of a hotel for the past month has started to take its toll. (I know Victoria can relate!) Since Ryan and I had access to free hotel breakfasts and dinners, we ate them in order to save money, even though they typically didn’t include greens or fresh produce and were saturated with salt and oil.

These hotel meals, coupled with no access to a real kitchen and weeks marked by packing and unpacking bags has been fine for the most part, but I also feel like it has started to weigh on me (both figuratively and physically).

While I’ve done my best to keep healthy foods in the hotel fridge, having access to a real kitchen at my parents’ house where I’ll be staying with Sadie for the next two weeks (Ryan will come visit on the weekends), is something I am thrilled to utilize again. Hello roasted vegetables and goodbye weird gravy meatballs!

Fortunately we have a move-in date set for our new rental home (September 1!) and I think my body and my skin (I’m seriously breaking out!) will be just as excited as my head and my heart. Every time I look at pictures of our new rental house, I get so pumped!

Breakfast

No egg patties or French toast sticks from the hotel breakfast buffet made it into my morning meal today. Thank goodness!

IMG_5584-1

I had a cup of blueberry Greek yogurt and a bowl of old fashioned oatmeal, topped with almond milk, chia seeds, macadamia nuts, chocolate-covered raisins and Craisins.

IMG_5587-1

I ate this breakfast while blogging outside on my parents’ patio with Sadie watching my every move.

Just being around her again lights me up inside. There’s nothing like a dog’s happiness!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I don’t blame you for feeling a little off without a home and regular routine. You’re doing great despite a tough schedule and I know that you’ll get back in the swing in no time 🙂

I start to feel kind of icky after being on vacation and eating out 24/7 for a week or two, so I can only imagine that it must have been stressful to live in a hotel without a kitchen for an extended period of time! I’m liking the addition of chocolate covered raisins to your breakfast- never too early for those 🙂

Just don’t dye your hair red. I mean, unless you want to.

Not having a real home sucks in ways that people can’t understand. But soon, you’ll have a normal kitchen and can eat veggies. And COOK. I hate being on business travel and not being able to cook. I see recipes pop up on blogs and am like “I WANT TO MAKE THAT NOW BUT I AM STUCK IN THIS DINKY HOTEL ROOM WITH DRY AIR AND SUPER LOUD A/C AND MY LIFE IS AWFUL.”

Oh, and then you went up to HLS. And stayed in a hotel. I’m surprised you weren’t a lunatic there. I would have been.

Sorry you’re away from Ryan, but I’m glad you’re getting to live in a real house and not at the hotel any more. When I travel for work, I always feel “off” because I can’t necessarily have exactly what I want food-wise and my workout schedule gets out of whack. It’s tough, but I guess the biggest thing to remember is that it’s all about overall health/well being, so a week or month of being a little off while you’re in a transition isn’t the end of the world.

I know how you feel!!! When we were in the states and on the road about 75% of the time, we often ate out with friends and family, just because we hadn’t seen them in a while. Even though it was a lot of fun, just being on the move constantly and eating out more that we were used to really sort of threw me off for a while!

Julie, I’m sorry you’re feeling funkified at the moment…so much change and a lack of stability interrupting your routine is always challenging to roll with, I completely understand, being in the same boat myself. I do hope that you have a wonderful two weeks at your parents, it seems like it is the right place for you to be right now – with a working kitchen, people around you, sadie, and a place to workout and maybe even take bodypump?! 😀 take care of yourself and have fun settling down! Big smiles and best wishes, Yolie xxx

I believe we all get in funks and I’m sure you know what to do to get out of them! You’re a smart girl and now that you’re not living out of a hotel, you’ll get right back into the swing of things!

Remember when you gave up sweets? It wasn’t easy at first, but you did it! This is the same thing, lady. You can do it! 🙂

Enjoy spending time with Sadie, she’s SO adorable. I really want to get a new dog but my mother is still grieving over our old one (it’s been 3 years…) I was thinking about volunteering at a shelter, though, because I believe dogs are just an amazing outlet from life.

I know what you mean about not being able to cook your own meals. I studied abroad on a cruise ship for 3 months (seriously) and all of our meals comprised of pasta and potatoes. Between those meals and all the meals out while on shore, I came back with more knowledge and few extra pounds.

Looks like we’ll be just missing each other in St. Pete, you’re moving to your new home in Ocala right as I’m moving back in with my parents after graduation. I seriously can’t wait to move home!
