Getting Jittery

November 3, 2011 by Julie 83 Comments

Today is a day off from the gym! Ryan and I are taking it easy on the workout front this week in preparation for Saturday’s half marathon. We’re leaving tomorrow morning for Savannah and I am already getting jittery… in a good way!

I started to make a packing list as I prepared breakfast this morning which really got me pumped up.

packing list

I started with the most important running items in my book: My Garmin and iPod! When I really think about it, my number one slot might actually go to my favorite running socks, though my electronics do keep me motivated in a way a pair of socks never could.

Breakfast

Breakfast was good this morning, but not great.

egg sandwich 001

(Why does cheese always look so leathery once it starts to cool?)

I made myself a cheese, jelly and egg bagelwich on an onion bagel and think I finally discovered a kind of cheese that doesn’t work on this sandwich. Provolone. Bleh.

It could be that the provolone that I used had a “smoke” flavor that I didn’t realize it had until I bit into the bagelwich. I still ate the whole thing, but it wasn’t nearly as delicious as prior jelly and cheese bagelwiches.

Today

My mom left from St. Pete this morning to come pick up Sadie for the weekend and help me with some personal things here in Ocala. I’m really looking forward to spending the day with her but need to buckle down and wrap up a project that’s been quite a time suck for the past two days. I want that baby done and sent and out of my mind!

See ya for lunch!

Question of the Morning

  • What is your most important piece of exercise gear (clothing, electronic, etc.)?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Definitely a good pair of shoes! I’m hoping to get spin shoes for Christmas!

I bet that course will be beautiful!

This is going to sound weird, but I’d say good hair elastics are really important!! I can’t stand when they start to stretch and my ponytail gets all loose. I know it’s a little thing, but it’s one of my pet peeves! Enjoy your day off! 🙂

I was going to say shoes, but after seeing Angela’s suggestion, I too choose ponytail holders. I’ve had them break on my mid-run, so I’d put an extra on my wrist.

I second, er, third that! I have super thick hair and have such a hard time finding elastic ponytail holders that can keep up. They are a workout MUST!

I totally agree with Claire – shoes make the biggest difference ever. And a hair clip. I have longish bangs but I need to rock the pony/hair clip {think those hair pouff hair clips all the italian girls wore in high school – hawt} or else my bangs get in my face and I get all hot and bothered.

SHOES! Everything else could probably be replaced in a pinch, but can you imagine trying to find the right shoes in a new town, purchase them and break them in on race day?

Enjoy the day with your mama!

Shoes for me too – I wouldn’t get far without them! And although socks aren’t exactly exciting, a good pair really helps.

That’s always such a weird feeling before a race – half excitement half nerves. You guys will do great!

And my favorite accessory right now is my half glove/half mitten combo. It’s cold here in PA and these are a life saver! I blogged about them here: http://oceanfulloflemons.wordpress.com/2011/10/28/ninja-runner/

Hey Julie, so psyched for your half marathon – hope you have a fun and fast race.
I have a xantham gum question – I started using it after reading about your yummy think smoothie recipes, and it’s great (after the first time I used it, in which I used too much and turned my smoothie into a massive gum heap). However, I find that it leaves a gummy film in the blender right after using it. Do you have any ideas on how to get that out? It doesn’t respond all that well to scrubbing. Any advice would be so helpful. 🙂

My most important piece of gear is my phone. I use it for my music and I use it for my pace (runkeeper) because I don’t have a Garmin.

I wish I was running rock and roll Savannah. I’m in Atlanta and thought about signing up, but my first full marathon was last Sunday, I thought I would need more time.
    Have a great Time!!!

Savannah is going to be awesome! I wish I was going!!! I’m so picky about running gear when it comes to long runs. I must have the right shoes, socks, pants, top, sports bra, panties, and of course i pod. When you are running for 2 hours straight, it is important to be comfortable!

I can actually handle running without my garmin and ipod, but I always take my spibelt! It makes it easy to carry my phone (which has backup music/gps), keys, gum and tissues. I even wear it for races, I lost my husband for over an hour at a 5K last fall and I don’t want a repeat of that!

Mine is my ipod. There have been times that I would go the gym for a class and find out the class is cancelled. Hence, me on the treadmil with no music. Pure Torture. Now I always bring my ipod or phone just in case so I always have something to listen to. Oh and a really good headband. Nothing like sweating with hair in your face. YUCK
