Gulp

March 9, 2013 by Julie 118 Comments

I like my coffee HOT.

hot coffee

I like it so hot that right after I brew a hot cup, I typically stick my mug of coffee in the microwave for 40 seconds to make it extra hot.

As it turns out, I think this little habit of mine helps me savor my morning cup of coffee because I totally forgot to microwave it this morning and I practically gulped it down like water.

I’m feelin’ wired!

This is one of the reasons I have a hard time hopping on the iced coffee train. How do you not gulp it down like Gatorade!? When something tastes like Christmas in a cup I have a hard time pacing myself.

After a sweaty morning workout, I enjoyed my not-so-hot cup of coffee with a simple breakfast.

English muffin with melted peanut butter

I topped a toasted whole wheat English muffin with peanut butter that melted into the nooks and crannies like a champ. Yum!

I also had a cup of key lime Oikos Greek yogurt on the side.

simple breakfast

When it comes to flavored sweet foods, if there’s not a chocolate option available, I am almost always on Team Strawberry and rarely choose lemon or lime-flavored treats. However, I must tip my hat to the key lime Oikos Greek yogurt. It tastes like key lime pie mousse in a cup (and I love it in my key lime pie protein smoothie)! Our local grocery store seems to have trouble keeping it in stock, so I was excited to see it on sale again.

Now it’s time to get this day rollin’. I hope you have a great Saturday!

Oh! And before signing off, here’s a video for my fellow dog lovers: Dog teaches puppy to walk down the stairs. <—My heart almost exploded when I watched it this morning.

See ya!

Question of the Morning

  • Iced coffee/ Iced tea: Yay or nay?

I like them both, but I inhale them, so I typically opt for hot coffee or hot tea so I can enjoy them for a longer amount of time. Savor it, baby!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I’m the opposite… I do not like my coffee very hot because I always burn my mouth & I like to drink it fairly quickly… so I can move onto the next cup. LOL I set my brewer on the lowest heat setting possible & it is STILL too hot for me. If I add a bit of almond milk to it, it’s about the perfect temp for me.
I’m w/ya on team strawberry! I may have to try that lime Oikos though. 😉

I don’t enjoy any type of coffee! Sometimes I really wish I do, but I just don’t like the taste. I read so many other healthy living blogs and other people drink it so much, I just can’t make myself do it. In the mornings I have water or almond milk. I used to always have apple juice, but a little over a year ago I stopped drinking that because of the HUGE amount of sugar in the drink. But I sure do enjoy my almond milk in the morning! 🙂

I do the same! I always have them make my coffee extra hot at Starbucks because I like to make it last. The only downfall is that sometimes I forget and end up burning my throat because I get way too anxious. Pretty soon, it will be time for Iced Coffee though!

Me too. Always get my latte extra hot at Starbucks. Especially if your sitting with a friend chatting, then it doesn’t get cold too quickly as you’re not drinking it so fast

Ian not a big coffee fan. My husband loves it and every now and then brews a cup for me if he thinks I would like it. Sometimes I do 🙂 I am more of a tea lover. Make it hit and slowly sip it as it cools down. I got hooked on earl grey because of captain Picard. Lol.

Awww puppy love. My mom is the exact same way, where she likes her coffee burning hot. I’m always so embarrassed at Starbucks, when she asks if they can make it extra hot. All the workers there recognize her as the extra hot lady now haha. I like hot and iced, but iced I have to get a large because it’s down in 2.5 seconds.

That yogurt flavour sounds delish. I tend to prefer obvious “sweet” flavours for yogurt too but it is hard to resist a dessert in a cup. I’ll need to look for this one!

I don’t really drink anything other than water (it sounds like I lead a boring life..and I might), but I do like iced tea. When I drink iced tea, though, I prefer it to be flavored whereas I can drink hot black tea with some low cal sweeteners and be content (less calories, too!) I usually drink hot tea on cold mornings when I’m dragging because it makes me feel good and warms me up

I always heat my coffee after I make it, too. I have to feel the steam hit my lip right before I drink it or it’s down like water. Then, I get all jittery for about an hour and crash. I get coffee in the morning from DD and warm it up multiple times throughout the day. I just can’t drink luke warm coffee!

I love my coffee and tea hot and steamy too, but also like to sip it over long period of time. So now I don’t go anywhere without my starbucks thermos, which is excellent at keeping things hot for a while. Even when I’m at home I throw my coffee in the thermos to avoid those frequent trips to the microwave 🙂

This is very reminiscent of my breakfast this morning as well. When I first started drinking coffee I preferred it mildly hot-warm, but the longer I drink it the hotter I like. Patience is not my strong suit so it can’t be too hot or I will definitely burn my tongue, since there is no way I can wait to sip, but just under scorching is perfect for me. I have the same problem with iced coffee, I love it (its one of my favorite summer drinks) but I have to order larger cups and they’re gone before I know it. So I order them sparingly.
