Gulp

March 9, 2013 by Julie 118 Comments

I like my coffee HOT.

hot coffee

I like it so hot that right after I brew a hot cup, I typically stick my mug of coffee in the microwave for 40 seconds to make it extra hot.

As it turns out, I think this little habit of mine helps me savor my morning cup of coffee because I totally forgot to microwave it this morning and I practically gulped it down like water.

I’m feelin’ wired!

This is one of the reasons I have a hard time hopping on the iced coffee train. How do you not gulp it down like Gatorade!? When something tastes like Christmas in a cup I have a hard time pacing myself.

After a sweaty morning workout, I enjoyed my not-so-hot cup of coffee with a simple breakfast.

English muffin with melted peanut butter

I topped a toasted whole wheat English muffin with peanut butter that melted into the nooks and crannies like a champ. Yum!

I also had a cup of key lime Oikos Greek yogurt on the side.

simple breakfast

When it comes to flavored sweet foods, if there’s not a chocolate option available, I am almost always on Team Strawberry and rarely choose lemon or lime-flavored treats. However, I must tip my hat to the key lime Oikos Greek yogurt. It tastes like key lime pie mousse in a cup (and I love it in my key lime pie protein smoothie)! Our local grocery store seems to have trouble keeping it in stock, so I was excited to see it on sale again.

Now it’s time to get this day rollin’. I hope you have a great Saturday!

Oh! And before signing off, here’s a video for my fellow dog lovers: Dog teaches puppy to walk down the stairs. <—My heart almost exploded when I watched it this morning.

See ya!

Question of the Morning

  • Iced coffee/ Iced tea: Yay or nay?

I like them both, but I inhale them, so I typically opt for hot coffee or hot tea so I can enjoy them for a longer amount of time. Savor it, baby!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I’m a tea girl. Not a coffee person but on occasion I’ll get a vanilla latte. Always hot!
That key lime pie Oikos yogurt is SO good. I don’t eat regular yogurt often as it doesn’t agree with my stomach…but sometimes I’ll “splurge” and it’s usually that one or their toasted coconut vanilla flavored one. SO GOOD.

It’s best enjoyed at that time of the month with some chocolate.

I do really like iced coffee, but I definitely drink it more quickly than hot coffee. If it’s just plain black iced coffee I’ll drink it a little slower, but I have to admit that I really love McDonald’s iced coffee for an occasional treat, and it’s difficult not to inhale that in 30 seconds!

I just order iced coffee (usually the hazelnut flavor), so it definitely has sugar and cream in it. It is really sweet, but so delicious! I didn’t even know you could ask for it without sugar!

So I’m not the only one that likes my coffee so hot it might burn your tongue! I also usually pour it out of coffee pot, add my milk and sugar and stick it in the microwave for 30 seconds. It is the only thing I use the microwave for. I actually want to get a milk frother that will froth and warm my milk, which might help me not need to microwave the coffee. As far as iced or hot coffee….both! I usually make iced coffee in the summer times for a random afternoon treat and have hot coffee every morning.

Being a PhD student means that coffee is my fuel. I drink it black, plain and a lot. Everything with sugar, cream and flavours is a candy 🙂 The bad habit that I developed is to drink it also when it cools down. Like the leftover of my morning coffee in the afternoon. Gross!
Btw, is Nespresso also popular in the US? Here in Germany people got crazy about it, we got the machine in the lab and it tastes amazing!

I loved this posting! I enjoy iced coffee more then hot coffee because the warmth from the coffee makes me sleepy. Kind of weird, I know! Does anyone else ever feel this way?

Also, I am so on board with not really wanting lemon or lime flavored sweet treats or food in general. Since you share in my palate, I might try the Chobani now!

I don’t drink coffee anymore but I do drink Chai Lattes and I always order them extra hot so that it forces me to drink it slower.

I don’t do iced tea or coffee but you forgot about iced chocolate that I do for sure but definitely no chance of savouring that 🙂

Definitely iced coffee! I’m with you on heating coffee after its brewed…I don’t have a microwave though so what I tend to do is make enough for 2 small cups in my moka pot and add boiling water and hot milk to my 1st cup, for my 2nd cup I add the coffee, water and milk to a pan and heat it on the stove!! it’s a bit of a faff but does the trick 😉

Your english muffins look so tasty…it’s weird but it’s really hard to find them in the UK and even harder to find whole meal ones…they also see to be denser than your ones too (they don’t have the big holes I always see on the ‘english muffins’ you can buy in the USA) :(! x

I like all of my food/drink that is supposed to be hot to be really hot. I always ask for my Starbucks drinks to be extra hot. And I’ll throw coffee or tea back in the microwave for a few seconds to get some extra heat, too! 🙂

I HATE iced coffee. That being said, I don’t mind drinking my coffee as cools down to cold. I don’t like to drink coffee that burns my tongue which is mainly why I use so much creamer (or not….).

I love that you have Fiestaware plates! I collect!

Also loving Key Lime Greek Yogurt. Can’t wait to try the smoothie!

I love both! But, like you, I have a “drinking problem.” 😛 I like to gulp down my beverages too so I have trained myself to drink water as well as my other beverage to “slow me down” haha! Since I moved to Florida from the north, the weather is typically too hot for me to want hot tea or coffee so I tend to drink the iced varieties.

I have to keep heating it up in the microwave. I also have problems with my almond milk separating when it is heated. Does anyone else have these issues!?

I don’t like coffee. It smells great, but I don’t drink anything I have to acquire a taste for as a general rule. 🙂 I used to drink a lot of iced tea, but here in the south it is sweet, sweet, sweet, and I realized I was drinking a lot of calories so I cut it out altogether. I do love some hot chocolate though. It’s sort of my zen moment in the evening to sit down with some hot chocolate while the are children nestled in their beds.
