Healthy Living Blogs for Men

July 16, 2012 by Julie 70 Comments

This Monday has been full of catch up as most Mondays seem to be for people everywhere. My morning whizzed by and lunchtime popped up before I knew it.

I made myself some pesto chicken salad with about half of an avocado, a shredded chicken breast, carrots, celery and my sunflower seed and walnut pesto.

chicken salad pesto

I cooked a few chicken breasts in the crock pot yesterday (using this incredibly easy method) so I could have them on hand to assemble super-fast meals like this one throughout the week. That tiny bit of prep work saved me lots of time this afternoon.

pesto chicken avocado

I was afraid the avocado that I used in my chicken salad would be too bruised to eat after gently squeezing it, but when I cut into it, I saw beautiful green and no brown. Hooray!

I ate my chicken salad with a cold, crisp Jazz apple on the side.

Healthy Living Blogs for Men

Lately I’ve received a handful of emails from you guys and a couple from your boyfriends and husbands asking me about healthy living blogs by men. I felt bad that I only had about two “man blogs” to recommend!

As someone who absolutely loves blogging and reading blogs, I think it’s so much fun to discover new blogs. Though the majority of bloggers out there are apparently male (according to a Technorati study about blogger statistics), the vast majority of blogs I read are maintained by females.

I found myself at a loss for a bunch of blogs to recommend to those who were reaching out to me hoping to find some great blogs by guys. I put a call out on Twitter this morning and the following food, fitness and/or healthy living blogs maintained by men were recommended to me:

  • Swimmer Joe
  • The Athlete’s Plate
  • Mark’s Daily Apple
  • Angry Trainer
  • No Meat Athlete
  • L-Jay Health
  • Pavement Runner
  • Frugal Fitness
  • The Food in My Beard
  • Sweating Until Happy
  • Robb Wolf
  • Danny McLarty
  • 70’s Big
  • Jeremy Scott Fitness

Hopefully you’ll love ‘em all!

Question of the Afternoon

  • What is your favorite blog that is maintained by a guy?
  • What is your favorite blog that isn’t a healthy living blog?

The Didactic Pirate is one of my favorite blogs that is maintained by a man and not related to healthy living.

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Ha. Honestly, I don’t think I read any healthy living blogs written by men. I have a few social media/business type ones written by men, but that’s about it.

Hi Julie! I have a question–and I know you don’t post everything you eat, so that’s why I wanted to ask!

I notice that you don’t seem to eat a lot of carbs in the form of grains with the meals you show on the blog (lunch and dinner) and wondered if there was a reason for it? I am not trying to attack your eating or anything… I was just curious from a health perspective! I notice that when I sometimes eat carbs (oatmeal) in the morning it makes me lethargic and so I wondered if perhaps you experience the same thing throughout the day?

On a side note: the chicken pesto looks amazing and I’ve added it to my must try Julie-recipes! 🙂

hi cindy! there’s honestly not a reason for it other than i just eat whatever we have on hand and i’m in the mood to eat at the moment. sometimes my dinner will be pasta with veggies, other times it may be salmon, a sweet potato and veggies. in today’s case, we haven’t been to the grocery store yet (hoping to go tonight), so i used stuff we had on hand.

This has nothing to do with today’s questions but I just wanted to let you know that I took my little sister (can I still call her that if she is almost 17 haha) to see the Katy Perry movie and saw a preview for Pitch Perfect and immediately thought of you because of your love for Pentatonix and their acapella songs! It looks like a really cute movie! AND… I love that Rebel Wilson from Bridesmaids is in it and plays a character by the name of Fat Amy haha 🙂
