Internal Alarm Clock

March 19, 2014 by Julie 65 Comments

You’d think setting an alarm for 5 a.m. would mean I would definitely sleep right up until the beep goes off, but that isn’t the case most of the time.

I have an internal alarm clock that is apparently a little too accurate. It gets a kick out of waking me up 45 minutes before my alarm goes off which is a little annoying. It’s enough time for me to remain in bed, awake, for 30 minutes and then drift back into a blissful slumber right before the alarm actually goes off. It’s pleasant.

After a mostly restful night (except for the last hour or so), I woke up to the alarm with Ryan and headed off to the gym to check our respective workouts off the list!

Workout

My workout for today began with a 20 minute elliptical workout and concluded with an upper body workout.

While I spent some time on the elliptical, I flipped through the IDEA World Fitness Convention’s schedule which got me way too excited for the conference in August.

IDEA World Schedule

It was, hands down, the best conference I’ve ever attended and I can’t wait to go back again this year. (You may see my recap from last year’s conference here: IDEA World Fitness Convention 2013)

If you’re a fitness professional, I cannot recommend this conference enough. It’s incredibly energizing and I left feeling super motivated to kick butt as a trainer and group exercise instructor.

Breakfast

Breakfast this morning came in a glass.

berry smoothie

A berry yummy smoothie!

In the mix:

  • Coconut milk
  • Vanilla Greek yogurt
  • Frozen banana
  • Frozen blueberries
  • Frozen strawberries
  • Frozen cherries
  • Spoonful of almond butter

It was almost too thick to drink (just how I like it), so a spoon came in handy.

berry smoothie with coconut milk

Off to work!

Question of the Morning

  • Do you feel like you have an internal alarm clock, or do you always seem to sleep right up until your alarm goes off in the morning?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

YES. I have a nagging internal alarm clock, too. If I’m getting up really early for something (like a 5am flight) I’m so paranoid about sleeping through my alarm that I’ll wake up every hour on the hour. It’s exhausting!

I absolutely have an internal alarm clock! If I try and sleep in on the weekends, I have to try and go to bed later, so my body is naturally more tired. But no matter what I am awake by 6am every day! I usually get up at 4:30 during the week.
I actually like my internal alarm clock, because it keeps me in check for keeping my workouts consistent 🙂

I set my alarm just in case, but generally I wake up on my own before it actually goes off. I very rarely ever sleep right up until it beeps.

No internal alarm clock for me…it’s either my phone alarm or my 14 month old daughter. 🙂

I definitely have an internal alarm but mine tends to go along with the sun. When the sun rises earlier in the summer months, so do I and in the winter I have the hardest time waking up!

Hi! I’ve recently started getting up at 5 for 6am classes at the gym. Very early into the class, I see spots and get weak and dizzy; I suspect I’m not eating the right breakfast before hand. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

Josh has an internal alarm clock so he wakes up before our alarm goes off, turns it off and wakes me up. I really appreciate being woken up by him instead of a loud beeping noise.

This is one of those things that I have always wondered if it was just me! Guess not! My alarm is set for sometime in the 5:30 range most days. I, too, will wake up 45 minutes before it goes off and then about every five minutes until it’s time to wake up. I think the worst is when I wake up 15 minutes before because then it’s almost like I may as well just get up. And then some days I wake up two minutes before. I rarely make it to the point where my alarm actually goes off.

I totally do! I pretty much wake up 10 minutes before my alarm, which I set 30 minutes early, every morning! I like knowing that I’ll wake no matter what and not have to leap straight out of bed! 🙂

I used to have an internal alarm clock when I had a consistent schedule, but since having a baby for the past 12.5 months, he’s usually my alarm clock between 5-6 am. I toss and turn when I don’t hear from him for longer than about 3 hours.

I have an internal alarm clock as well! It really bothers me that I can’t sleep in, so I have recently googled different ways to sleep in later. Melatonin is supposed to help, night yoga (my favorite!) and turning off all electronics at least two hours before bed (This is a toughie!)

It’s odd as I’m not a morning person at all. But for whichever reason my internal clock wakes me up before my alarm goes off on those days that I need to get up earlier than usual. I feel we might condition ourselves to internally ‘know’ it’s time to get up if we wake up at the same time for a certain while. Smart, nature, smart!

My internal alarm clock is CONSTANTLY waking me up before my alarm. The worst is when it’s 5 minutes before it goes off then you just count the seconds you have left to lay in your bed. I wish I could wake up whenever I wanted every morning.

I definitely have an internal alarm. I usually have to be up every day by 8am, and without fail I wake up between 6:45-7:15. Normally I don’t mind because it gives me some extra time to do a Bible study or run over my to-do list. However, it also happens on vacations and days off when I could really enjoy the extra sleep. Or, my favorite, when I stayed up way too late the night before. Oh well, better that than constantly oversleeping, right?

I want that internal alarm clock thingie! The only way I can get up is if I know for certain that I have to meet someone at the gym or something. Then, and only then, do I wake up early. I also wake up early if I know I have to get on a plane or something, but that’s about it!
