Lower Body Burnout

March 5, 2013 by Julie 132 Comments

Man oh man, do I have a workout to share with you guys today!

If you’re in the mood to make your legs shake and absolutely rock your lower body, then today’s lower body workout will be right up your alley.

Lower Body Burnout Workout

I began my time at the gym with a 20 minute warm up on the elliptical before targeting my lower body in the weight room. It was a good workout and I have a feeling I’ll be quite sore tomorrow.

Links to demonstrations of some of the exercises:

  • Jumping lunges
  • Hamstring ball curls
  • Lunge with front kick

Breakfast

Once my legs were toast, it was breakfast time!

Greek Yogurt Pancakes

Pancakes!

Greek Yogurt Pancakes with Strawberries

I made a batch of Greek yogurt pancakes and topped them with fresh strawberries and a bit of syrup. So darn tasty!

Question of the Morning

  • What is your favorite lower body exercise? Least favorite?

Truth be told, I don’t love any lower body exercises, but squat jumps and reverse lunges with a front kick are probably my two favorites. My least favorite? Jumping lunges. Yikes!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Too funny! I walked with the hubby this morning instead of hitting the gym (leg day), so I was just thinking of what I wanted to do to make up for it after work. This might be just the thing! Thanks 🙂

Oh man, weighted walking lunges have to be my least favorite. Or one legged weighted squats. UGHHH both kill my legs. I hate quad day, but I feel so good after its over. Hello jello legs for the rest of the day.

Am I the only one who found this quote: “Once my legs were toast, it was breakfast time!” funny and ironic? It is definitely a play on words. Now if only you had eaten toast for breakfast! 😉

The only thing I like doing with my legs is running!! so, i try to lie to myself and say that’s enough for the lower body lol!
There’s a lot of lunge jumping in body attack classes..and boy, those are brutal but effective!

Pancakes always make a Tuesday better!

By any chance do you have the recipe for the overnight oat recipe you posted about yesterday (without yogurt)? It looked so good!!

I’ve been trying to lower my dairy consumption but i love overnight oats with Greek yogurt so I’d love to try something new 🙂 Was it just as doughy as the one with greek yogurt?

    Thanks 🙂

I have always hated lower body exercises! I would dread doing them so I would consider running as my only one haha. I started doing pure barre about 2 months ago and it works lower body like CRAZY! I think you would love it!

I don’t like lunges, I cannot get myself to like them and I pout like a baby when I am forced to do them. But I LOVE squats! I love weighted squats and jumping squats, I also love the way Bob Harper says squats, just a little tid bit. 🙂

Great work out! I miss doing leg days like that! I just bought Insanity to do as a mix in to half / marathon training this year. They do a ton of the jumping squats and lunges, which I HATE but they are soooo good for you.

I ordered it over the phone this weekend and should be arriving this week. I will post a review in a month or so about how I like it. It’s meant to be used 6x a week but there is no way I will be able to do that with all the running I do! I think 3x a week is perfect as an add in to running though.

Love leg days! I often include lower-body workouts more often than upper body workouts because I have more room for improvement in my legs! Favorite exercise? Squats, since I know how good they are for the whole body (http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/01/25/ask-well-squats-for-aging-knees/) and least favorite are definitely box jumps– I just cannot get over my fear of smashing my shins! I do step-ups instead! Highly recommend “side” step-ups, too, for a bit of variation!
