Master Bedroom Sneak Peek

November 2, 2011 by Julie 90 Comments

This evening was rather intense on the car front. At about 4 p.m., I drove around to get a few estimates on my cracked mirror and to inquire about the liquid that dripped from my driver’s side mirror onto the paint on the door of my car and hardened.

salmon broiled 005

I tried my best to scrub the hardened liquid off, but it left residue and I had a terrible feeling in my gut that no miracle solution was going to get it off.

As it turns out, my feelings were right and I now need part of my car repainted. My initial estimate of $500 to repair the mirror skyrocketed to nearly $1,700 and I may have to file a claim with my insurance company to help with the cost. (I am planning on getting another estimate as well.)

Blah.

money problems

(See how Ryan always tries to be the favorite? And see how Sadie gives me death looks whenever I interrupt their bonding?)

Though I’m obviously upset about the unexpected expense (and really annoyed with myself), what’s done is done and I will likely meet with someone from my insurance company soon to see what the next course of action will be. Boo.

Dinner

Though car problems are awful (why are they always so much more expensive than anticipated!?), dinner was great.

I made simple broiled salmon with roasted Brussels sprouts.

And now all I want is ice cream. A Dairy Queen Blizzard sounds fantastic! Maybe I can convince Ryan to take a little field trip.

Master Bedroom Sneak Peak

Now I’m in the mood to talk about something not related to cars and insurance.

Last week we finally got a mattress for our bed and slowly but surely Ryan and I have been acquiring sheets, pillows and trinkets to adequately outfit our bedroom. I think it will be ready to reveal really soon!

In the mean time, here’s a little sneak peak:

Our color palate for the room is deep teal + silver/gray + black + lime green.

Can’t wait to show you soon! The room has come a long way in just a week.

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Aw, Julie, I’m sorry about your mirror. I just knocked mine off this summer and it’s such a horrible feeling. I honestly just duct taped mine back for a while.
But mine was a lot less expensive than I expected. Seriously! Like $60. I would look for the part online or something. They say installing a car mirror isn’t that hard (though I did not do that). Maybe worth a look?
The paint thing is awful! Mine actually looked way worse–as in my mirror was hanging by a wire.
In the future I am going to look for cars with the side mirrors that fold in. They are genius!

yeah, i was able to find the mirror online for much cheaper than $500, so i THOUGHT i was going to be in the clear… until the whole REPAINTING fiasco. boo. 🙁

not sure what your situation is with the whole mirror part, but I was able to replace my mirror myself for 15 bucks (only the mirror was cracked, not the actual car casing). Not sure if it will be able to save you a little money, but just know you can and it’s much, much cheaper!

I don’t know if it would work but I had some black smudges on my white car that would not come off with any cleaning solution nor multiple trips to the car wash. One day I decided to try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and it worked perfectly. Just another possible suggestion that you could try.

I was trying to fix the flip that holds the driver’s side visor on the way home today and back ended someone… luckily we were going like 10-15mph so all it did was bend his license plate and scratch my front bumper, but I was so mad at myself. Just wasn’t paying attention. I hate it when I make a silly mistake.

Just wondering why you don’t often have a starch with dinner? I only ask because you are very active and carbs are so important for fueling and refueling. I find personally that I could eat two plates heaped with vegetables and protein but would not feel satiated until swallowing some starch.

Ugh! Sorry about the car! Last week on my way to work, a rock flew up and cracked my windshield and I ended up pulling over to check on it inevitably making me late for work. I was complaining to my Mom about it later and she said “Well, that 15 minute delay could have saved you from being in a terrible accident so think of it this way, instead of a totaled car and possible injuries you have a cracked windshield. No big deal.”
Moms, they always put things in perspective for ya!

I know, I know, easier said then done and I don’t know if it delayed you a little bit from driving or not but everything happens for a reason. Try to find the good in everything- at least no one was hurt!

(BTW, even as I’m typing this I’m thinking if it was me, I would be a wreck so kudos to you for accepting it and being positive!)

LOVE the color palate on your bed. And sorry about the car 🙁 earlier this year I scraped my entire door while leaving the parking garage at work…and yellow paint was all over it. A coworker suggested the magic eraser and it actually worked, all of the yellow paint came off. I don’t think that would help your “drips” but keep the info in the back of your mind!

Car problems are the worst. I had a “minor” leak at my oil change a few months back and when I went back a couple weeks ago, it’s now a full on power steering rack replacement. They originally quoted me $850 and I was able to get them down to $670 but I still need a second opinion. Cars stink…

That does stink about the car. But be sure to factor in IF your insurance rates will go up because you filed a claim. Sometimes it is just better to do what you can out of pocket. I got a new car out of my accident, but our insurance just about doubled for the next 3 years as well.

If you have power mirrors, the liquid is most likely Ferroelectric liquid crystals. I have heard that acetone might help get rid of the excess that is stuck onto the car. You can pick it up at any hardware store. Try it on an inconspicuous location; if it doesn’t work, no harm is done. If it does, you save yourself some money.

Don’t beat yourself up about the car situation. Stuff like that happens! Cars are the biggest pains in the butt…I’ve had so many random accidents…you’re not the only one!

We got hit by a drunk driver (Praise God, we weren’t in the car at the time of the accident) and we had a rental car for a good part of a summer in 2009. I went to my mom’s house to mow her grass and as I backed out of her driveway I went pretty close to the house to prevent her lilac bushes from scratching the rental car. In doing so, I hit her house and damaged the bumper to the rental car. That sucked a lot.

Another time, I dropped Sheila off at her law school. As life would have it, this was the last time ever that I would need to take her there. I had dropped her off and picked her up hundreds of times with no problem. Well, this time, I backed out of the driveway and wound up dislodging my front bumper on the rock placed next to the driveway. Of course, it was raining, and I got nice and dirty tying the bumper to the frame of the car so I could make it home OK.
