Personal Trainer Photo Session

October 18, 2013 by Julie 43 Comments

My work day is nearly over and the weekend is on the horizon! Woohoo!

We last left off with breakfast and after I finished my morning meal and published my first blog post of the day, I drove to the gym for a speedy workout that began with 20 minutes of interval work on the elliptical. I followed my quick cardio session with some strength training that focused on my biceps and triceps before taking a quick shower at the gym and clocking in for work.

Personal Training Photo Session

My work day included a personal training meeting and another personal training photo session… also known as the only day this week I wore make up to work!

Just out of curiosity, if you’re a trainer or a group exercise instructor, do you wear make up to work? I almost never do if I am teaching because I can’t stand sweating with make up on. If I am just training a client or working with someone and know I won’t be teaching later in the day, I might wear make up, but it’s usually just mascara since my naturally blonde eyelashes are practically transparent.

Anyway, today’s photo session took place because the personal training wall at my gym is going to be updated again. Photos of the trainers will accompany more information about the personal trainers at our gym and we were asked to answer the following questions:

  • Certification: NASM Certified Personal Trainer, AFAA Group Exercise Instructor
  • Favorite Machine/Exercise: If I had to choose a favorite exercise, I would have to say squat jumps. I love explosive, plyometric exercises and squat jumps are challenging in the best kind of way!
  • 3 Foods that are always in your fridge/pantry: Almond milk, apples, peanut butter
  • 2 reasons you stay healthy and active: 1.) For the future – I want to live a long and happy life filled with adventure… Plus, I need to be able to keep up with my insane dog 2.) Because I feel better about myself when I make good decisions for my body

It was a fun Friday activity!

Lunch

On my way home from the gym, I swung by Earth Origins for some fresh juice.

Earth Origins Juice

Whenever I buy juice, I feel like I inhale it in 2.5 seconds. I need to learn how to slow down and savor it.

Today’s combination included kale, apple, beets, carrots, ginger and cucumber.

Once I made it back home, I ate a late lunch that featured leftovers from dinner last night.

steak caesar salad

Steak Caesar salad!

Now it’s time to start thinking about Friday night plans. Ryan and I talked about going on a date but I’m feeling lame and am leaning toward a relaxed night at home. Hanging out on the swing in our backyard with Sadie and a glass of wine sounds perfect to me!

Hourglass foundation and definicils waterproof mascara!! Never sweats off, and I would not even be surprised if they were pool worthy. They are a splurge, but I don’t splurge on other things in my make-up bag, and they are awesome. Hope that helps 🙂

I’m a yoga and water aerobics instructor and almost always wear makeup when I teach. I don’t worry about it during yoga because we don’t get super sweaty. For water aerobics I just wear my usual waterproof mascara and eyeliner (a habit I got into while living in Oregon, when anything but waterproof makeup would come off becuase of the constant rain!). I like being able to wear makeup to teach, becuase I know 20-something eyes will be on me for an hour! Haha!

I never wear makeup when I teach unless I’m subbing for another instructor in the afternoon and already applied makeup in the morning. I normally teach Cycle at 6:30 am at the campus rec center, so I just roll out of bed, eat my first breakfast, change, and go! I don’t want anyone feeling like they need to get dolled up to come to a class.

I teach my classes straight after work, so I’m usually wearing makeup already, but I feel that the more effort I put into looking cute at the gym, the more confident I am while in front of the crowd. On the flip side, I naturally don’t wear tons of makeup so I don’t feel to bad about sweating in it – just shower ASAP afterwards 🙂

Have you ever thought about getting your eyelashes tinted? I get mine done usually every two to three months and then it doesn’t matter if you wear mascara or not. I have brown lashes but they are quite light brown so I like getting them done 🙂

I tint my lashes too! I go to Pia Esthetics in St Pete but I believe they have one in Winter Park too. It’s around $15 dollars and it lasts about a month. My lashes are super blonde too, so I love being able to go to the beach and the gym without any mascara!

I am the same way with juices and smoothies! It’s just too easy to gulp those things down really fast.
I don’t mind keeping my makeup on at the gym if I’m coming straight from school, but if I go after waking up, I never put on makeup.
    Have a great weekend, Julie!

Are beet juices typically sweet? I don’t think I’ve ever had beets! Usually when I get juices, I’ll get a fruity juice or something with ginger. But I would like to try the beets!

I’m a group fitness instructor at the University of California, Davis, and I since I teach in the evenings after long days of class, I only wear makeup if I wore it to school/work that day! I feel much cuter with it on, but I look like a raccoon by the end of class ;).

As a fellow personal trainer, group ex instructor, and Y employee, I totally understand that sometimes the make-up just isn’t a priority. We are up earlier than everyone else and spend our days in a weight room with sweaty people. I will admit that I usually at least have eyeliner and mascara on, but my hair is where I slack. I wear it in a ponytail everyday and sometimes it can look a fright! I’m on your side!

I’m a Pilates and Barre instructor- I rarely wear makeup. One of my clients is an aesthetician and she said it’s one of the worst things you can do for your skin. She said your pores open and soak up all the pigment. Yuck.

    Hey,

Random question but do you ever get down/tired days? You always look 100% healthy and glowing in your photos just wondering whether that is pretty much how you feel all the time or whether you do have days where you feel rotten too?

I never wear make up to teach or train in. I have my first boot camp at 6:30am so clients are lucky if I’ve brushed my hair back into a pony tail or if it’s just tossed up in a big old mess.
