Spoke Too Soon

August 31, 2012 by Julie 78 Comments

Within 30 minutes of publishing my afternoon blog post yesterday, I received a text from Southwest Airlines notifying me that my flight to New Orleans was canceled.

After exploring other options and to make a very, very long story short, I am no longer heading to Louisiana for my friend Leah’s bachelorette party today.

I’m hoping I can overnight some of my contributions to the bachelorette party to the hotel (like the craft project I’ll share with you guys once it’s seen by the bride-to-be!). I’ll be there in spirit!

My initial reaction was to feel really bummed about missing such a fun weekend to celebrate Leah’s upcoming wedding with some of my best girlfriends, but after feeling disappointed, I gained some perspective and know Hurricane Isaac affected a lot of people in far, far worse ways and my thoughts are with them. Safety is always the most important thing and I hope those affected by the hurricane are able to find access to important resources and can find comfort during this difficult time.

Someone was awfully happy about the change in my travel plans.

She got all huffy and wiggled all around the kitchen when I walked through the door.

Since my travel to Louisiana fell through, it was business as usual around here this morning and I did an upper body and cardio combination workout at the gym before heading home for breakfast.

When I went to snap photos of my morning meal, I could not find the SD card for my camera for the life of me, so a blurry phone photo will have to suffice.

Yikes!

Breakfast included a hot mug of coffee and a bowl of steel cut oats cooked on the stovetop with a banana, ground flax seeds and egg whites. (<— I just typed the word “egg shits” on accident and laughed out loud.)

Who is ready for a long weekend? Any awesome Labor Day plans out there!?

Sorry you couldn’t make the party! I love how positive you’re being about the situation though.

Question- I’ve noticed you often eat breakfast after your workouts. Do you eat anything before your workouts? I have always heard it’s bad to workout in the morning without eating, what’s your take on that?

The last thing you want to be doing is flying into a hurricane, but what awful timing for it to show up!

Bummer about the bachelorette party and fun-filled weekend.

For what it’s worth, I was due to be traveling to Japan, and was in an airport waiting for a connecting flight to Narita when 9/11 happened. I had been looking forward to that trip for months, and I was seriously upset and bummed. I totally understand how you feel and think it’s unfair for others to be harsh. You were excited to do something and were let down. We all have those knee jerk reactions. I obviously realized the devastation of 9/11 after I was able to get over my own letdown, but it was perfectly okay for me to initially feel that way about my trip. It also helped that I was able to fly out to Japan a couple of days later.

The egg shits sound runny, spicy, and miserable!

So sorry about your plans falling through- such a bummer. But, as someone that lives in New Orleans and has had to ride out the storm, be happy you will not be here this weekend. I have not had power for days and this is not the place you want to be right now!
I am sure your girlfriends will make the best of it anyways!

I am definitely ready for a long weekend! And flight cancellations are no fun. My husband and I had our first flight cancelled on our honeymoon. I was devastated (sleep deprived = very emotional) that we had to leave a day later. Everything turned out great, but it just goes to show that you can never be too sure about your plans!

    Hey, Julie,
Silly question here, but what is the process of freezing bananas?? My daughter and I have taken to eating smoothies on a regular basis, and I thought freezing some bananas would be a good idea. Love your blog!!!
