The Most Energetic

March 31, 2012 by Julie 73 Comments

If there is a more energetic dog breed out there than a vizsla, I have yet to encounter it in my lifetime.

vizsla playing

That is Sadie after our five-mile run this morning.

I’ve heard Australian shepherds and German shorthaired pointers are extremely high energy as well, which is kind of funny because they are two breeds that Ryan and I also adore.

Ryan and I have said that if we got another dog that wasn’t a vizsla we’d love to rescue a German shorthaired pointer (they look so much like vizslas but with a darker coat) and if it weren’t for my allergies, we probably would’ve got an Australian shepherd when we were initially looking for a dog. (I also adore French bulldogs and Boston terriers, but Ryan isn’t on board for a small dog. Maybe one day!)

It wasn’t until we started researching breeds that often don’t affect allergies that we stumbled upon the vizsla and became quite the smitten kittens.

And now I have the best running buddy that can knock out five miles like it ain’t no thang.

When we arrived home from our run this morning, Ryan was still at the gym, so Sadie scoured the house on overdrive searching for him in every room before realizing that he wasn’t home yet.

Then I became her default playtime buddy… even though we just ran five miles.

We played on the floor for a good 10 minutes as I solidified my campaign to be her favorite.

Breakfast

Random fact: Whenever I start to type out the word “breakfast” I always type “Bream” first. I guess letting go of my maiden name is still a daily battle!

Breakfast today was an egg sandwich served with a sliced Ambrosia apple that was half the size of my face.

I made the egg sandwich the usual way with two fried eggs, a slice of muenster cheese and strawberry jelly served atop a toasted whole wheat English muffin.

I have yet to try a cheese on this sandwich that I like more than muenster. It’s perfecto.

A cup of pumpkin spice Godiva coffee was also enjoyed on the side.

I finished off this particular bag of coffee this morning. Sad day.

I’ve been rationing this coffee since the fall because I like it so much. Fall coffee drinks are the best of the year!

Ryan and I have some food-related fun on the agenda for today, but I’m crossing my fingers that it doesn’t rain! We’re hoping to make it out to a barbeque competition and eat some of the best barbeque in Florida today assuming the weather cooperates which looks a little shaky at the moment.

Hope you have a fantastic Saturday!

We had a german short hair and yes they are CRAZY HYPER! She was a sweet dog and we loved her of course, but she was very anxious, suffered from anxiety so bad that we had to give her anti-anxiety meds and she was insane with just running the house all day long. But she was sweet and loved us!

I am so glad to hear that vizsla’s don’t effect allergies. I am sooo allergic to dogs (sneezing, watery eyes, stuffy nose…) and my fiance LOVES dogs! He actually has been talking about wanting a vizsla for about a year now. Good thing they don’t aggravate allergies too much! 🙂

I have an Austrailian Shepherd and he is the best dog EVER. They are such a loyal breed and since they are herders by trade, they think of you as part of their “herd” and will follow you EVERYWHERE…even the bathroom is not off limits. They are super energetic and LOVE to chase/herd other dogs/animals/small children. They are also super unique since they all look completely different and have different colored eyes.

Ha, when I read the title of this post, my brain automatically said, ‘Oh DEFINITELY a german shorthair pointer!’ I see you’re on the same track!

This post is so funny to me because I have the complete opposite end of the energy-spectrum in my dog. I have an English bulldog, and I took her to the dog park (3 blocks from my house) on Saturday. She loves the dog park, but always plays catch-up with the pack of dogs chasing after something. We stayed about 15 minutes, then we headed back home. She stopped 3 times on the way to lay down in the middle of the sidewalk, and after the 3rd time, I decided to pick her up and carry her the rest of the way. We were never going to make it at her pace. Bulldogs may not be able to help with cardio, but 45 lbs is a good arm workout.
