Workout Swap

September 28, 2011 by Julie 111 Comments

Good morning!

fall placemats 003

I love that ridiculous face.

Workout

I awoke this morning with hamstrings that were still pretty sore from Monday’s leg workout.

I initially planned to workout legs today, but that just wasn’t happening. I decided to swap today’s workout with tomorrow’s planned run and ran five miles instead.

I was actually quite happy with this plan because I’m running in a 10k on Saturday and taking two days off from running before the race will help me feel fresh on race day. (The last 10k I participated in was more than a year and a half ago – back in March 2010! I’m excited to do another one because 10ks are my favorite race distance.)

I kicked up the pace of my morning run a bit, but incorporated a tiny bit of walking in the mix as well, so my run looked like this:

Distance Speed
0 – 2 miles 6.5
2 – 2.1 miles 4.0
2.1 – 3 miles 6.5
3 – 3.1 miles 4.0
3.1 – 3.5 miles 6.5
3.5 – 4 miles 6.8
4 – 4.1 miles 4.0
4.1 – 4.5 miles 6.8
4.5 – 4.8 miles 7.0
4.8 – 5.0 miles 6.8

Increasing my speed at the end of the run felt great. Even though Ryan is wonderful about running my pace during our long runs as we train for the Savannah Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon, I have a feeling he’d ideally like to go faster, so any time I see progress in my speed, I’m a happy camper.

Breakfast

Breakfast today was delicious and comforting.

banana protein pancakes 001

Gotta love pancakes on a week day!

I made a batch of banana bread protein pancakes, topped them with nutmeg, banana slices and syrup and dug in.

banana protein pancakes 002

Please make these if you haven’t already! They even got parental approval from Alyssa’s parents last week. That’s big time, folks.

Breakfast was served with a side of Godiva pumpkin pie spice coffee that made me wish I could open my windows, let in the cool fall breeze and watch colorful leaves blow by (because leaves frequently blow past your windows in the fall, you know).

After checking weather.com and seeing that today’s forecast calls for a high of 91 degrees, my dreams were squashed pretty quickly. And then I remembered that the owners of our house scheduled the pool guy to come by today to turn our swamp of a pool into a nice swimming environment again for all the hot days we have left and my fall wishes were really squashed. (Seriously, you should see our pool right now. It’s disgusting and likely crawling with amoebas.)

Speaking of fall, I told myself I must wait until October 1 to break out the fall décor. Have you guys decorated yet? I have some fall-themed placemats on our new table in our living room that I bought two weeks ago ($1.50 at Big Lots, baby!), but other than that, everything is boxed up until October. I’m getting antsy!

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I decorated the 1st of September… that seems to be the unofficial beginning of fall here in New York. We’ve already experienced 40 degree days and the leaves are well on their way to being completely orange and yellow.

A 10k is the only race I’ve ran to date and I really loved the distance. (Then again I havenothing to compare it to).. but after this weekend Iwill have run a half marathon, too!

    Good luck in your race!

Like so many others, Fall is my favorite season too… evidenced by the fact that I can’t type or write the word without capitalizing the F, while I’m fine just writing spring, winter, or summer. 🙂 I haven’t started decorating yet, though! I have seen some fun Halloween decorations up around my neighborhood and that is inspiring. I have to get on it!

I can’t bring myself to get the fall decor out here in Vegas… I might have to though because I’m really missing fall in Indiana!

Also, good luck with your 10K… I ran my first one last weekend as a training run for RNR LV!

I’m dying to start making soups and chili and wearing boots! But I’m holding off because I know that I’ll get tired of them long before spring if I start now. But maybe, just maybe, I feel fall in the air.

I decorated for Fall this past Sunday because this past Friday was the technically the first day of Fall. I understand waiting until 1 Oct for you especially with 91 degree weather floating around. I’m waiting unil the 2nd weekend in Oct to do Halloween decorations though 🙂

I’m running a half marathon on Sunday and needed to run 3 miles this morning, but it was raining and yucky outside when I woke up. So I’m putting it off until this afternoon. Thanks for giving me some motivation to get it done Julie!

No fall decorating for me personally – yet. But it’s everywhere here in PA. We lived in Orange Park, FL before we moved to PA last year so I know exactly what you mean when you say it doesn’t feel / look / sound / act like fall at all right now!

Good call on listening to your body. When something is super sore, you gotta rest it!

I haven’t broke out the fall decor yet. It’s still upward of 75 degrees in Massachusetts! (Fun fact: The pumpkin that I had as part of my dorm room decor last year lasted from October to May without rotting!)

I just bought a fake pumpkin at Target the other day and put it out. I can’t wait to bring out some of our other stuff but am totally doing it this weekend!

You could totally ease into the season by just putting out a few pieces right now, then going wild on Oct 1. 🙂

Ah yes, Fall, the GREATEST time of the year…Charlie Browns Great Pumpkin episode, cooler temp, soups, apple pie…anyway, indeed, we had to go the Apple Orchard last weekend for our yearly trip! Picked up 8 Spaghetti Squash, 3 Acorn Squash, 3 Pumpkins, 2 bussel of apples picked, apple cider, pumpkin butter, apple butter, and amish chow chow. Now all the decorations are up…And Playoff baseball is coming!

Fall is my fav time of year so I definitely broke out the fall decor! Once the calendar officially said “Autumn Begins” on September 23rd, I figured it was all fair game. I live in Seattle though, so the weather is definitely starting to cooperate. I plan to post my new fall decor along with a new fall recipe on my blog in a couple of weeks.

I ran a 5K this past weekend with my fiance [who isn’t a runner] and he initially kicked my butt and sped off wayyy out in front… But it came back to bite him in the butt at the end because he was exhausted and his knees started to hurt so I caught up to him! It was nice to have him running with me, he pushed me to run much faster than I would have alone!

I always decorate for fall at the beginning of September – lots of cute scarecrows and leaves. I usually leave them up until Thanksgiving, when I start decorating for Christmas! The house always looks so much nicer when it’s around the holidays, so I tend to leave them up for cheeriness 🙂
