Workout Swap

September 28, 2011 by Julie 111 Comments

Good morning!

fall placemats 003

I love that ridiculous face.

Workout

I awoke this morning with hamstrings that were still pretty sore from Monday’s leg workout.

I initially planned to workout legs today, but that just wasn’t happening. I decided to swap today’s workout with tomorrow’s planned run and ran five miles instead.

I was actually quite happy with this plan because I’m running in a 10k on Saturday and taking two days off from running before the race will help me feel fresh on race day. (The last 10k I participated in was more than a year and a half ago – back in March 2010! I’m excited to do another one because 10ks are my favorite race distance.)

I kicked up the pace of my morning run a bit, but incorporated a tiny bit of walking in the mix as well, so my run looked like this:

Distance Speed
0 – 2 miles 6.5
2 – 2.1 miles 4.0
2.1 – 3 miles 6.5
3 – 3.1 miles 4.0
3.1 – 3.5 miles 6.5
3.5 – 4 miles 6.8
4 – 4.1 miles 4.0
4.1 – 4.5 miles 6.8
4.5 – 4.8 miles 7.0
4.8 – 5.0 miles 6.8

Increasing my speed at the end of the run felt great. Even though Ryan is wonderful about running my pace during our long runs as we train for the Savannah Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon, I have a feeling he’d ideally like to go faster, so any time I see progress in my speed, I’m a happy camper.

Breakfast

Breakfast today was delicious and comforting.

banana protein pancakes 001

Gotta love pancakes on a week day!

I made a batch of banana bread protein pancakes, topped them with nutmeg, banana slices and syrup and dug in.

banana protein pancakes 002

Please make these if you haven’t already! They even got parental approval from Alyssa’s parents last week. That’s big time, folks.

Breakfast was served with a side of Godiva pumpkin pie spice coffee that made me wish I could open my windows, let in the cool fall breeze and watch colorful leaves blow by (because leaves frequently blow past your windows in the fall, you know).

After checking weather.com and seeing that today’s forecast calls for a high of 91 degrees, my dreams were squashed pretty quickly. And then I remembered that the owners of our house scheduled the pool guy to come by today to turn our swamp of a pool into a nice swimming environment again for all the hot days we have left and my fall wishes were really squashed. (Seriously, you should see our pool right now. It’s disgusting and likely crawling with amoebas.)

Speaking of fall, I told myself I must wait until October 1 to break out the fall décor. Have you guys decorated yet? I have some fall-themed placemats on our new table in our living room that I bought two weeks ago ($1.50 at Big Lots, baby!), but other than that, everything is boxed up until October. I’m getting antsy!

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I have gotten into fall mode 🙂 We put up some decorations over the past few weekends. I am in New Jersey though, and the leaves are starting to change. I’m looking out the window at work right now to a sea of yellow leaves. The temps are still all over the place (hello 90 yesterday, 60 today?!), but I’m pretending it’s full-on fall.

I’ve done my first round of decorating for fall! I live in DC so it’s a bit cooler here. I do 3 rounds- fall, then Halloween, then Thanksgiving! Obviously I use a lot of the same Fall stuff throughout, but I was so excited! I broke it out the first day it was 60 degrees! Then it went back up to 80s, but I’m still excited for my fall decorations!

I made your pancake recipe! Although I was an idiot and used a kitchen aid instead of a blender causing them to come out thick and very oat-y. I was going to make the pumpkin ones last weekend before Josh and I’s trip but we wanted to get on the road, so I’ll likely be making them this weekend before we head to the Poconos.

I’m jealous you can still swim in a pool! As much as I love fall I’d love some more summer time!

Oh good to know that works too! Josh has both, he loves to cook. When I was remarking that I think I did something wrong because the recipe didn’t look like the pictures he asked to look at the recipe and pointed out my mistake. My boyfriend is a better cook than I am! ;p It still turned out great though and he loved it because you could still taste the cottage cheese and its one of his favorite things. He actually put more on top of the pancakes!

One day we got a Frontgate catalogue in the mail and it had all fall decor and winter stuff in it and I literally starting CRYING b/c I missed the seasons so much. So, I hear ya. My brother just recently asked if I decorate for the seasonal holidays…. alas, seeing as how my apartment is the size of my parents’ basement storage area, I have nowhere to keep it all year round… So, if I wanted to decorate, I’d have to do it for every holiday, all year round. Christmas bathroom, St. Patrick’s day…oven? Valentine’s day closet!

I’m a firm believer in not decorating prematurely. I hate that stores have up their Christmas stuff already. I think the holidays are more special if you only have your decorations up for a couple weeks. Also the high temperatures just don’t make me think fall. b) i am SO jealous about the decorating – halloween is my faaaavorite holiday and they also don’t have that in france 🙁 i’m 0 – 2 right now!
