20 Minute Total Body Workout

March 15, 2016 by Julie 28 Comments

Good morning! I hope your Tuesday is off to a good start! If you’re hoping to make it to the gym later today and are on the lookout for some workout inspiration, I hope today’s post will fit the bill! It’s been a few weeks since I’ve shared a workout on the blog and I wanted to pop in this morning to share a 20 minute total body workout I did the other day that was short and sweaty but efficient.

20 Minute Total Body Workout -- Complete each exercise pairing for 2 min before moving onto the next pair. Complete 2 total rounds.

If I miss my favorite morning boot camp class, sometimes I only have 20 minutes available to me during the day to sneak in a workout since I use Chase’s naptime to do ALL THE THINGS like work, shower, eat and workout. So quick and sweaty is the way to go for me right now! I did this workout by itself while jamming out to Pandora’s Pop and Hip Hop Power Workout Station (<—try it if you haven’t already!), but you could easily tack it onto a longer workout if that’s more your style. Or complete three total rounds instead of two for a 30-minute total body burner!

Exercise Demos

Below you will find picture demonstrations of the exercises in this workout. If any of the exercises are unfamiliar to you, you may click the links for more detailed information about the exercises to ensure proper form.

Question of the Day

  • How long is a typical workout for you?

Pre-Chase my workouts were usually 50-60 minutes. Post-Chase my workouts are usually 45 minutes or less! My beloved Burn Boot Camp classes are 45 minutes, but if I’m working out on my own, my workouts tend to be a little shorter.

My workouts are waaaay shorter these days and rarely include the gym so I appreciate the total body quick workouts!

I know you make the graphic that describes the whole workout, but I always wonder where you get the photos depicting each move…is there some exercise photo subscription or stock images source? Thanks for any info you can provide!

I was laughing because my workouts have taken the same progression. Since becoming a mom I’ve learned to make shorter workouts effective, like HIIT. I can’t wait to try this one!

my workouts range from 30-60 minutes depending on how much time i have. I usually do 35-45 min during the week because after work i don’t have much time! Donkey kicks are so killer! Looks like a great workout to try! Thanks for sharing!

My work out lengths vary DRASTICALLY depending on when I’m working out and what I’m working on. Ideally I’d like my workout to actually be 60-90 minutes because I like to do some solid cardio and weights every time. But life rarely allows that, so sometimes I do only have 20 minutes! Like today, I’ll be trying out this workout during my break at work! Thanks!

Looks like a good one! I’ll have to try that Pandora station. I recently discovered the Hard Rock Strength Training Station and love it. If I go to a class, my workouts are 45 minutes to an hour. If I’m working out by myself, it’s a lot shorter.

This workout looks great! I love anything under 20 or 30 minutes – fits perfectly with a busy lifestyle. Thanks for the routine! Can’t wait to try it.

This looks like a fun one! My workouts are usually right around 1 hour, but vary depending on the day…sometimes I am able to sneak an extra run in. Those are awesome days!

I LOVE total body workouts! But ever since starting Kayla Itsines’s BBG (Bikini Body Guide) where she isolates legs, arms, and ab days, I’ve seen significantly better results and am left sore every time! In the beginning I felt silly only working my legs one day, or my core another day, but having super sore body parts quickly became oddly satisfying! 😀 The workouts are 28 minutes 3x/week, but when I got to a workout class they are 60 minutes 🙂 Gotta keep it varied! 😀

Before baby my workouts were closer to 1 hour. Now they typically last about 30 minutes depending on how soon we get out the door in the morning. Squeezing it in before work limits my time but something is always better than nothing!

I love this, it’s so nice to have the pic that really show how to do the moves. I usually just make up my own names for things lol!
I like to get in a little cardio, at least half an hour, and then move on to some circuit type workout or concentrate on weights for. I usually don’t time that part I just do as many reps as I can!

If I’m working out on my own they’re typically 30ish minutes, but if I’m going to a class they’re usually 45-60 min. That’s the only way I can push myself that long!

Yesterday I went to the gym for about 45 minutes, and I got in a great lunchtime run/workout on the treadmill. If I could do something like this though and knock it out in just 20 minutes, that would be awesome! I think I need to get myself in shape though to even do this workout! Eek!

I see Anna over there doing those demos, ha! (I wrote a post last week on my favorite YouTube workout “channels” and PopSugar definitely made the cut.)

This is a great workout! Quick and efficient is the way to go, even in the middle of my work day. I did a 20 minute superset workout yesterday (found via searching my own archives, ha) and WOOF, it was tough. I’ll try this one out today or tomorrow during lunch. 🙂

    Thanks for sharing!

Hmm…yeah, my workouts at the gym are an hour but the at home workouts usually land around the 20 minute mark. Not sure why that is…thanks for this and sharing the demonstrations! Always very helpful.

It depends if I’m running or doing strength training! I’m doing the Kayla Itsines 12 week BBG program so those workouts are 28 minutes. My runs are normally 30-50 minutes during the week and sometimes longer on the weekends!
