Childhood Night

January 29, 2011 by Julie 41 Comments

Last night felt like a night from my childhood. Just me, my mom, dad and sister (plus Sadie!), gathered around the dinner table.

pork 001

pork 002We filled our plates with pork chops, potatoes, apple crisp and green beans and sat at the table long after all the food was devoured just chatting away.pork 007Can you tell by the heart place mats that my mom is already prepared for Valentine’s Day?

After dinner, we moved into the living room with bowls full of ice cream to settle down and watch the movie RED. pork 008

I had actually never even heard of the movie, but my mom rented it and pitched it as an “action-comedy,” which appealed to our whole family.

According to IMDB,

When his idyllic life is threatened by a high-tech assassin, former black-ops agent Frank Moses reassembles his old team in a last ditch effort to survive.

The movie definitely kept my attention. I feel like the movie was trying to be one of those super-cool action movies like Ocean 11. I think it missed the mark a bit, but I was entertained and enjoyed the movie.

Today

Today we awoke bright and early because we had some errands to run in Tampa. Before heading out, I whipped up a batch of blueberry scones for my family using my all-time favorite scone mix.

pork 009The scones are really easy to make as  you just add water and butter, but they taste moist, buttery and oh-so-flavorful.pork 014

I had two fresh from the oven.

pork 011

pork 012After running around in Tampa, I actually had a bit of a headache. I came home and slept for about 30 minutes with Sadie by my side. I initially planned to go for a run, but nixed the idea in favor of resting up. I am not one to take naps ever, so the fact that I actually fell asleep just reaffirms the fact that I needed some rest.

Now I’m eating some chicken noodle soup before heading out to meet with our wedding photographer to pick up a box of our wedding prints. I’m excited!

Hope you’re enjoying the day!

Yum… I LOVE scones!!! And that meal last night looks soooo delicious!
And I’m the same way with naps.. I only take them when I’m sick or my body is begging for rest. And when I’m napping, everyone knows it’s serious haha.

It’s always strange to hang out with the “original” four of my family members now, too. My parents have always been super cool about letting us have guests on vacations and family meals, so four feels like such a small group! Glad you’re enjoying your time at home!

That sound slike THE perfect night to me…I love when dinners last even after the last bite has been eaten. Perfection.

I always listen to my body like that, too. I”m not much of a napper, so I know if my body says I need a nap, I better take it!

I thought RED looked really good from the trailers I’ve seen. I just love Helen Mirren!

And I rarely nap, too. I actually feel like I am more tired after I take them.

I almost never nap either because if I do, I can’t sleep at nighttime.

Only a handful of times have I actually napped during the day (when my body obviously needed it bad!) and been able to fall asleep at night!

Its nice to hear you’re having such a nice time with your family! 🙂

Love your blog – first time commenting.

Your attitude towards your life is refreshing. Just wondering what your daily schedule is like. You make the time to workout, walk, make a hearty breakfast and go to work…do you have to get up super early?

    Thanks,
