Explosive Leg Workout

February 12, 2013 by Julie 58 Comments

This morning I was very tempted to sleep in and figured that a sleepy drive to the gym meant my workout was doomed. Thankfully, after a 10 minute warm up, I felt awake and ready to sweat it out.

My workout began with a quick 10 minutes on the elliptical before I headed into the weight room to complete a leg workout.

Explosive Leg Workout

It was definitely an explosive workout!

I paired a strength exercise with a plyometric exercise and completed three rounds of each superset. In between each superset, I hit the elliptical for five minutes.

This workout had a little bit of everything and made my time at the gym pass very quickly which is always a good thing! I also took a few minutes to stretch before heading home to make breakfast.

Breakfast

Pancakes for breakfast!

I made a batch of pumpkin almond flour pancakes and probably should’ve measured my ingredients because they were a little too dense. At least the taste was fantastic!

That sounds like a great workout! The Mr got a bonus so we’re getting rid of our “dreadmill” that is injuring both of us in favor for an elliptical. I can’t wait to get it and have a new cardio option that wouldn’t kill my soleus muscles. I’ll take some dense pancakes please! 🙂

That’s great! Although I favor the other cardio machines usually, these days I’ve been enjoying the elliptical as well. I also love that it gives me an upper body workout all at the same time. 🙂 Ohhh jumping lunges are a killer, Julie!!

That seems funny to me, because we are currently storing our elliptical machine out in the garage because I got a new treadmill. The elliptical would make my toes go numb. Maybe I was doing something wrong, but my toes definitley don’t go numb on the treadmill…though I much prefer running outside!

I agree with Dotsie – it does look like a Crossfit workout. Speaking of, I went to Crossfit last night and we had to do like a million burpees, made me think of your post yesterday! And although it was torturous, yes I did feel like a badass when I was finished. 😉

Even though things sometimes do not turn out “perfectly” when it comes to cooking in the kitchen, all that really matters is that it tastes GOOD. I have no doubt that those pumpkin pancakes tasted amazing. How could they not?? 😉

Also, I am loving the healthier Mardi Gras meal ideas. Thanks for sharing the link :).

I made your banana bread protein pancakes today with greek yogurt instead of cottage cheese because I didnt have any in the house, they were SO good! This was the first time I have ever successfully made pancakes at home, embarrassing I know! I love how there made with oats instead of flour, the thicker consistency made them much easier to cook.

How do you come up with the supersets you do? Do you just base it on exercises you have in the back of your mind? The reason I ask is, I know a TON of exercises, but I always have trouble figuring out which ones to pair together. I figure it’s kind of just trial by error, but was curious what your method was 🙂

My son wants to come live with you! He loves pancakes and would be in heaven with as many pancakes as you make. Unfortunately for him, I love my sleep and he catches the school bus at 6:45am, so I don’t like getting up so early and making pancakes from scratch. I have made them from the Bisquick shake and pour. Super fast and easy.
