Guilt Trip Eyes

May 3, 2013 by Julie 74 Comments

It’s Friday!

Do the Friday dance!

sad vizsla

No? No? Apparently Sadie isn’t feeling quite as enthusiastic about the upcoming weekend as most of us out there. She knows I’m about to leave for work and is being dramatic and sulking in bed.

Sadie can always tell when we’re about to leave the house. First, whenever I start putting on my shoes, she starts sulking. She gives me her sad puppy eyes.

Then, when I grab my car keys, she starts freaking out and runs around the house in circles. As I head for the door, she meets me there, her eyes hopeful and tail wagging. There’s a glimmer of hope remaining inside her that she clings to, believing that maybe she gets to come along.

And then I say my usual goodbyes and reality sets in. She retreats back to the bedroom to sulk again. She’s such a (ridiculously adorable) little stinker.

Breakfast

I wasn’t in the mood to go grocery shopping when I went to Publix this week and as a result I left the grocery store without a ton of food. There wasn’t much to choose from for breakfast this morning, so I went with an egg, cheese, sausage and spinach scramble.

IMG_1001-001

It was good, but I was really in the mood for a big yogurt bowl with fruit and peanut butter granola. Tomorrow, perhaps?

IMG_1003-001

I also had a hot cup of frothy coffee on the side that I sipped on while typing up this blog post.

IMG_1012 Yum!

When I’m packing to leave for college my kitty, Molly, will sit on my bed and just watch me pack with this disapproving look like, “oh, you’re leaving again? Fine fine it’s not like I care anyways.” Hahaha she’s a diva 🙂

Poor little Sadie lady isn’t used to having you work out of the house all day. Bentley, my doodle, usually tries to run out the door with me and when he doesn’t succeed he just stands there and cries. It makes me feel so bad to leave him.

My dog always knows if I am going on a run. It’s like he knows my outfits. He also just gets to come on car rides, a lot, so he ALWAYS hopes that he gets to come along…it crushes my soul every time I see the excitement on his face and knowing he doesn’t actually get to come.

I love your breakfasts, seems always very tasty! I’m from Spain and here the breakfast is not so important, coffee, tea, toast, yogurt… boring, the egg sandwich with jelly and cheese, the overnight oats and breakfast as you have done today doesn’t exist! Unfortunatly… but I’m doing your recipes Julie, and I love them 🙂

I have a puppy, Luca, and we have been crate training him but he knows as soon as I grab a big handful of treats in the morning and start walking back to our bedroom he’ll follow me for the treats but when he sees the crate he just backs away… he’s so little right now I can pick him up and just put him in but he’s going to be HUGE shortly and will be impossible. As soon as I get him in he cries and barks and it’s so sad!! So don’t feel too bad Sadie seems pretty calm!

If I’m leaving for a business trip or vacation and he sees my suitcase its a different story, I get the sad puppy/ guilt trip eyes just like Sadie. Breaks my heart!

Seeing your bed in that post reminded me that (I don’t think) we’ve “seen” how the bed looked all set up in. I remember when it arrived and I loved the look & style, but wondered how it would look with furniture that it didn’t come with as a full set. Would love a “tour” of the bedroom to see how it all came together!

My spoiled corgi, Allie, will stand with her nose practically against the door whenever me and my boyfriend are leaving the house. And if we’re not careful she darts right out. Whenever she can tell we’re about to leave she tries to intimidate us by staring at us and growling. She’s so sassy!!

I don’t think my kitties can tell, but they certainly act differently when we return. They’re either angry and keep acting up or super lovey-dovey. Cleo in particular just walks around with these howl-like meows when she’s really mad. It’s pitiful, really.

    Happy Friday!

Me and my husband work from home, so we are here most days, but when we are getting ready to leave or even just pick up our car keys, he takes off. I love how you can read Sadie’s emotions through her face! My dog is easy to read sometimes, but sometimes, he just stares at me and I have no idea what he’s thinking.

We have a routine when we leave the house. We ask if he wants a treat, sit him on his bed and he merrily eats his treat.

The issue with our dog is “sleeper’s guilt.” He likes to wake us up at 5:45 and whine to make us feel guilty that we are not up playing with him!

This is too funny. Her facial expressions are absolutely to die for.

My dog Mila reacts to us leaving the house in different ways. You won’t believe this, but it depends on what shoes I put on! If i put on slippers, heels, flats, etc, she’ll run over to her kennel, open the door with the push of her nose, and get in, waiting for me to come close the door behind her.

If I put on my sneakers, she FLIPS out. Runs back and forth from me sitting in the chair to the front door and back about a thousand times. She’ll stand in front of me and stomp her feet impatiently waiting for me to get her leash and put it on. Breaks my heart when there are those times that I’m not lacing up to take her out, because she looks SO disappointed.

Our other dog, Luna, just kind of wanders around following Mila during either scenario. She’s too cute.

My dog does the same thing when I grab my shoes. Considering I bring him everywhere with me and he’s by my side 24/7… If I leave for a Doctor’s appointment or tutoring session all hell breaks loose. I left yesterday and he started CRYING and scratching our garage door. I felt SO bad. Also, he has adapted to looking out our front windows when I leave… So I see him at the front window and he watches me until he can’t see my car anymore. IT BREAKS MY HEART. I could cry. Haha. I’m such a sucker for his puppy eyes! Glad I’m not the only one who feels bad 😉

Our dogs can definitely tell when we’re about to leave! If we put on our workout gear and tennis shoes, they immediately get excited thinking it’s a walk. The times that it isn’t a walk, they start to sulk, go to their bed, and look all sad. It cracks me up!

Sadie has such a personality! Our Jehu is crate trained and he knows he gets a treat when he goes in his “bedroom” when we leave so he can care less!! When we move, however, which used to be often because of my husband’s job, as soon as he would start seeing the moving boxes, he would just cry and cry and get soooo nervous. He always came with us of course but he does not like all the commotion with moving! BTW, who won the Mothers Day giveaway? I must have missed that post!!

Penny has her spot on the top of the couch where she always lays, and every time she sees us getting ready to leave (it usually happens when we’re putting on our shoes, too) she hops down from that spot onto the couch and starts chasing her tail in circles. And then she plants herself by the door, nose approximately an inch from the floor, like she can smell freedom. When we leave her, I swear she goes and pouts in the corner. But we love her!
