Hair Help

April 1, 2014 by Julie 65 Comments

Today’s workout was a good one thanks to my beloved Nike Training Club app. That app saves me every time I wander into the gym without a game plan.

I knew I wanted to focus on my legs, so I completed the NTC Beach Legs workout and followed it up with some hamstring curls and squats. Plus a short 10-minute cardio warm up and cool down on the elliptical!

Ulta Errands

In between work and my workout, I grabbed a quick shower in the locker room before sneaking off to Ulta to finally purchase the heat protectant I apparently “desperately need,” according to the woman who did my hair for my sister’s wedding. (Speaking of Leslie and Ross’ wedding, the photographer is almost done editing their pictures which means I should have wedding recaps to share with you later this week or early next week. Hooray!)

Nexus Heat Protectant

I intended to buy a heat protectant two weeks ago, but they were out of the one I wanted and as luck would have it, the Nexxus Pro-Mend Heat Protection spray was back in stock at Ulta today! I’ll let you know what I think as soon as I have a chance to use it a few times.

Oh! And as a follow up to those who asked for me to share my thoughts on the hair growth treatment I bought back in October, I just bought more of it today, so that should tell you something.

Hair Growth Treatment

I’ve been using the Lee Stafford Hair Growth Treatment For Hair That Never Grows Past A Certain Length (the name totally suckered me into buying it on impulse) about once or twice a week for the past few months and at first I wasn’t sure it was doing anything. I kept using it because I didn’t want to waste it, but it wasn’t until my friend Merri told me that she’s never seen my hair this long when I was in New York last month that I really noticed the length of my hair. (I desperately need a haircut right now, so please don’t mind the stringiness!)

Reebok Skyscape Launch

I do think my hair is longer than I remember it ever being before, but not by too much. Still, for my hair to be even an inch longer than its usual length is a victory for me, so I’ll keep on using this stuff for a while to hopefully help with continued growth. Plus, the Amazon reviews are positive, so I’m hoping that means this isn’t all in my head.

Hair Growth Treatment - for hair that never grows past a certain length

Lunch

Before making my way back to work, I drove home to let Sadie out and eat a quick lunch.

Broccoli Slaw Sliverd Almonds Orange Turkey Panera Asian Sesame Dressing

Broccoli slaw topped with slivered almonds, a sliced orange, Panera Asian sesame dressing and turkey!

Asian Sesame Turkey Salad

Plus a can of sparkling water on the side.

Back to work!

Try it! Kenra 25 is a great hairspray to hold into place. You can get it at Ulta. The aquage uplifting foam you have to get from a salon, and the aquage website will direct you to salons in your area.

I need to buy some of the hair growth treatment! I’ve been trying to grow my hair out for about one year and a half and it’s finally starting to be evidently longer. Hopefully my hair cut on Friday gets it back on track to being healthy and growing. I have been trying to do a weekly coconut oil treatment to my hair. I just rub coconut oil through my hair (not my scalp) and wrap it in a tight bun for about 45 min before I hop in the shower. It seems to help a little bit!

I am BIG on dry shampoo these days. I try to limit the amount of times I wash my hair per week, so in between I spray a little dry shampoo on the roots to freshen up. It’s a must after I get super sweaty teaching group fitness. Have you tried any dry shampoos?

I’ve been loving hair oils lately! I have frizz-prone, fine-but-thick, straight-with-a-little-wave hair and I always strive for more volume. The Macademia oil, Organix Argon oil, Beauty Protector Protect & Oil, and even a Moroccan oil by Suave all help tame my locks without weighing them down. Plus they all smell so nice!

Dry shampoo is my friend. I get crazy dry skin if I wash my hair too often, and as the mom of two elementary school aged girls, walking around scratching your scalp is something that’s going to get you the stink eye from every mom out there who now worries that your kids have lice! 🙂

I downloaded the NTC app ages ago and have never used it. I’m almost afraid to, but at the same time think I should go for it because I definitely need to ramp up my exercise. Just have to choose the right workout so that I get a good sweat without killing my shoulder or scaring me off!

I always use It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product after I wash my hair. Then if I’m blowing drying it and straightening I use L’Oreal Mythic Oil. It makes my hair silky soft, heat protects it, and smells good! I’m considering using coconut oil on my hair sometime because I hear it is really good for dry ends but so far I only use it on my skin. It really holds in the moisture!

And what’s this about Panera Asian Sesame Dressing? Sounds yummy! Where do I find such a thing?

You need to take biotin! I have been taking it for about 2 years now, and my hair just will not stop growing (I have very fine hair that never grew much past my clavicle). It is seriously almost to my belly button. I know this is anecdotal, but all of my friends have since started taking it after seeing my hair, and they all describe their hair as “growing like a weed.”

Okay, this is going to sound CRAZY hipster of me. And I am not one of those people. BUT I swear by the “no poo” technique – it has given my hair volume it’s never had before, and made it shiny and healthier than I’ve ever seen it. I just put some baking soda in a bottle with water, leave it in the shower and shake it up before I use it. Dump some on my my noggin, rub it all in until it feels squeeeeaky clean, and then rinse with a little bit of white vinegar. Even with daily workouts, I can literally go days without washing my hair now before it starts to look/feel greasy.

My hair never grows either! I’ve been trying to work on it lately, I used to take the GNC hair skin and nails pills but I never noticed a difference. My hairdresser said I damage by hair because I blowdry and straighten it too much so she recommended using Redken Satinwear – I bought it from Amazon and I’ve been using it for a few weeks and it’s AMAZING! My hair is always smooth after i blow dry and never dry. Now I think I’ll buy that treatment you got to help my hair grow!
