Honey Dijon Cedar Plank Salmon

On Sunday night Ryan and I did little experimenting in the kitchen with cedar planks! Cedar planks are great for perfectly-cooked fish that is so flavorful. This honey dijon cedar plank salmon recipe is a great one to try.

Cedar Plank Salmon

Whenever I see cedar plank salmon on the menu at a restaurant it always seems so fancy and also incredibly intimidating. Salmon is super easy to make and Ryan and I eat it every week, but I’ve never used a cedar plank when preparing the flavorful fish.

Thank you to The Salmon Council for encouraging me to give cedar plank salmon a try! The honey Dijon cedar plank salmon we made last night was fabulous. And so, so easy.

Honey Dijon Cedar Plank Salmon

February is American Heart Month, a time of heightened awareness and concern about heart disease, and when The Salmon Council reached out to me to request my help in spreading the word about heart health, I was more than game. Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, claiming more than 811,000 lives per year. One woman dies from heart disease every minute.

Salmon and heart health go hand in hand since the American Heart Association recommends eating fish high in omega-3s, like salmon, two times a week. Salmon is packed with heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids, protein and vitamin D and can help lower cholesterol and decrease fatal cardiovascular incidents.

And it’s pretty darn delicious, too!

The Salmon Council sent me two Weber cedar planks to inspire me to experiment with baking salmon in a new way and the end result was fantastic!

Garlic salt, pepper, baked at 350 for 18 minutes. PERFECT! As silly as it sounds, I didn’t realize you could use the cedar planks in the oven! I can’t wait to try that, I always think of cedar salmon as a summer treat.

Salmon is one of my favorite meats and cook it a lot at home, usually just steamed in parchment paper with lemon and olive oil. But lately I can’t get enough of it for breakfast in the form of lox, so good on a bagel with cream cheese, cucumber and capers…yum!

The BEST way to have salmon is in the fall over a campfire. My husband and I go kayaking down a favorite river in September when the Salmon start to run. I love the thrill of seeing such HUGE fish flying through the water up close, and he loves to take his fishing pole. After a fresh catch, we simply HAVE to have a bonfire, and cook the fish over the fire. It’s AMAZING and truly a fall favorite in our traditions 🙂 I would love to try the cedar plank! I’ve had whitefish on the cedar plank, and it’s amazing! (now I’m craving it!!!!) 🙂

I order it just about every time I see it on a menu when we eat out, but I am also soooo intimidated to cook it at home. :/ I would love to be the winner of this giveaway so I could try out cooking it without feeling like spent a good deal of money on a perfectly good fish for nothing. 🙂

I love seafood in general, but salmon really is one of my favorites. I like to make mine with a glaze that has honey Dijon mustard, soy sauce, brown sugar, BBQ sauce, and orange preserves. You can either add them all together or mix it up and pick and choose which you like best. It’s great any way.

I hope I win!! This would be a seriously awesome extremely early, early mother’s day gift to my mom. She absolutely loves seafood and because of her I enjoy it so much.
